Chapter 688 Owen has Set His Sights on the Cunningham family
Edgar's eyes reddened, unsure if it was from anger.
"Avery, am I really that worthless in your eyes?" Edgar asked in a low voice.
"I thought you could handle it." Avery glanced at the time. "Edgar, you're not some innocent boy; there's no need to act all hurt."
Edgar snorted in anger and turned to look at Nolan. "Anyway, you can't marry him."
Nolan felt a headache coming on and wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.
He couldn't bring himself to hit Edgar, but Edgar had no problem hitting him.
"Marriage alliances are primarily about business value." Nolan didn't sound very certain, clearly speaking for Deborah's benefit.
Of course, with Avery and Edgar involved, he definitely wouldn't marry her.
"Nolan!" Edgar was furious.
"Stop fighting." At the door, Jasmine rushed in with two kids and Edward.
The two kids ran over, each hugging one of them.
Justin said, "Uncle Nolan, don't hit Uncle Edgar."
Joe hugged Edgar. "Uncle, don't hit Uncle Nolan."
Deborah sneered from the side. "Avery can't like two people. Do you want both?"
Deborah was very pleased with today's outcome. If Nolan and Edgar had a falling out over a woman, it wouldn't matter whether she married Nolan or not.
"Edgar, is it really necessary to be so petty?" Deborah looked at Edgar.
"Shut up. You're so annoying." Edgar didn't give Deborah any respect.
Deborah awkwardly bit her lip and clenched her fists.
"Richard, what are you doing here?" Jasmine saw Richard standing aside and asked quietly.
"I am representing the Sanders Group to discuss cooperation with Nolan." Richard was helpless; he was just an innocent bystander.
Edgar walked up to Avery. "Can we talk alone?"
Avery was too ruthless. Ever since she found out his identity, she hadn't even given him a chance to meet.
Avery lowered her eyes and said nothing.
She knew she couldn't give Edgar this chance.
"What will it take for you to accept me?" Edgar asked.
Avery sighed. "I don't like immature people."
Edgar said nothing. No matter what he did, Avery saw it as immature.
Deborah looked at Edgar with deep meaning; she might be able to use him.
"If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving." Avery glanced at the time, not planning to wait for Betty.
"Take care. Dad is currently looking for a date for you. I wish you a speedy marriage," Deborah smiled and spoke deliberately.
"You should worry about yourself," Avery said coldly, leaving with Kayla.
After a few steps, she saw Betty in loungewear, storming over. Without saying a word, Betty slapped Deborah.
Deborah was stunned. "What are you doing?"
Avery smirked and pulled Kayla into the elevator.
"Just can't stand you," Betty said coldly, her gaze falling on Edgar. "Aren't you going to see her off?"
Edgar, still heartbroken, quickly reacted and chased after her.
Deborah covered her face, knowing Betty was notoriously difficult to deal with. She could only endure the slap and quickly left.
The conference room finally quieted down.
Nolan rubbed his forehead. "Why are you all here?"
Jasmine had a look of "I'm here for the drama."
Edward shrugged. "I'm just here to see who wins the fight."
Joe and Justin nodded.
"We're here to stop them from fighting."
"Not here to cheer them on?" Edward teased with a smile.
Nolan was a bit helpless. "You all go back to sleep; you're too idle."
"Nolan, aren't you going home?" Jasmine asked. "Can we hang out at your place?"
Nolan was taken aback, then quickly spoke up, remembering the little rabbit at home, "Why would you come to my place? It's messy; I haven't cleaned. Maybe another day."
Jasmine squinted suspiciously. Something was off with Nolan; he must be hiding someone at home. "Nolan, are you hiding someone at home?"
"Hiding who?" Nolan replied guiltily. "Don't overthink it."
Jasmine glanced at Edward, and they shared a knowing look. "Joe, Justin, do you want to go play at Uncle Nolan's house?"
"Yes!" Joe and Justin jumped with joy.
So, Edward took the two little ones and started walking out. "I know the code to his house. Come on, I'll take you there."
"Edward!" Nolan was a bit anxious, knowing Amelia was home alone. "Don't mess around."
"Nolan, there's no one at your place. What's wrong with me taking the kids to play?" Edward looked puzzled.
"Don't go." Nolan took a deep breath and looked away. "There's someone at home."
Jasmine raised an eyebrow. "Nolan, you really are dating someone. When will you introduce us?"
Nolan thought about Amelia, who was busy stockpiling supplies to escape from him and sighed. "It's not the right time yet. Just wait, and don't scare her."
Edward chuckled. "Nolan, you have a girlfriend at home and still go on dates? That's too much."
Nolan's face darkened. "She's not a suitable marriage partner. I don't plan to marry her."
"You're keeping someone at home and not taking responsibility?" Edward frowned. "Nolan, you don't want to be a jerk, do you?"
"Our family values don't allow that, Nolan. If you act like this, I'll report you." Jasmine threatened.
"Her situation is special." Nolan didn't know how to explain.
Jasmine didn't ask further, planning to secretly visit Nolan's hidden person tomorrow.
"Let's go." Jasmine turned to call Richard and Betty, but they were gone.
Betty had already cornered someone in the small storage room.
Jasmine took Joe and Justin. "Let's go."
Justin and Joe looked blankly at the small storage room. "What are Uncle Richard and Aunt Betty doing in there?"
Nolan also had a headache and looked at Elijah. "Tell the cleaning staff not to clean the conference room for now."
Betty could do anything; better not scare the cleaning staff.
The family quietly left the conference room, thoughtfully closing the door for Betty and Richard.
Richard, back with Arnold, had been undercover with Sophia and Aleah for a long time and hadn't had time to appease Betty. He was in for some trouble.
In the small storage room, Betty cornered Richard against the wall, squinting her eyes. "Yesterday, you took Aleah out for dinner and bought her luxury goods?"
Richard's Adam's apple bobbed, his survival instinct kicking in. "Betty, didn't I tell you everything?"
Betty sneered. "Sophia still doesn't fully trust you?"
Richard shook his head. "She's very smart, always observing."
Betty grabbed Richard's chin. "You better stay clean."
Richard nodded frantically, trying to appease her. "I'm not that kind of person."
Just as Betty was about to calm down, Richard's phone rang. It was Aleah calling.
Richard quickly hung up, but it was too late; Betty had noticed.
"Answer it," Betty said menacingly.
Richard was terrified. If he answered, who knew if he'd make it out of the small storage room alive?
Downstairs, Avery left abruptly, leaving Edgar standing by the roadside, feeling a bit down.
"Both Avery and I are tools of the Hawthorne family. Whoever Owen wants us to marry, we have to marry. Marriage has never been our choice. She won't choose you because you're not the CEO of the Cunningham Group; Nolan is," Deborah walked up to Edgar and spoke calmly.
She was instigating Edgar to compete with Nolan for the Cunningham Group.
The Cunningham Group was Jasmine's trump card and support. If the Cunningham Group were in chaos, Owen wouldn't sleep well.
