Chapter 702 The War Between Deborah and Avery
The Douglas Group was facing severe challenges, with Deborah leading a boycott involving most of the business circle against them.
People were saying Jasmine couldn't lead the Douglas Group.
Many senior executives and shareholders within the Douglas Group had also chosen to leave.
"Jenkins Lawson and Adrian Grayson have sold their shares at a low price."
Jasmine frowned. "Did we buy them?"
Ben shook his head. "Someone beat us to it; they must have planned it in advance."
Jasmine took a deep breath. "It seems the person behind this is really getting impatient."
Were they planning to stop hiding?
They were stirring up the Douglas Group, putting the it in the spotlight, causing senior executives to resign and shareholders to withdraw their shares.
"This person must have received some news or confirmed Mr. Douglas's death," Ben said quietly, afraid of upsetting Jasmine.
Jasmine didn't believe Ethan was in trouble and remained calm. "This must be Vincent's doing."
"The Douglas Group is on the brink of bankruptcy, projects can't start on time, and construction can't be completed. The current situation is very unfavorable for us," Ben said, checking the time. "Are you confident about tomorrow's press conference?"
Jasmine nodded. "Since Deborah is leading those people to attack the Douglas Group, it's time to fight back."
Deborah dared to do these things because she stole the Harper family list from Ethan's computer.
The people on the list would naturally fear Deborah, and the list would become her leverage.
However, Deborah didn't know that the list she had was not the original; Jasmine had altered it significantly, and it couldn't serve as direct evidence.
The real original list was in Jasmine's hands.
Using the press conference, she would stir up the entire business circle.
If she didn't want peace, then nobody had peace.
As for Deborah, she would eventually be bitten by her own actions.
This was the result she brought upon herself.
"Based on the people on the list, pursue breach of contract claims against those who voluntarily propose to terminate cooperation and make them pay the penalty." Jasmine instructed Ben.
Jasmine had a list of people involved in illegal activities. Making it public would trigger investigations and turmoil, pressuring them to terminate their contracts with the Douglas Group. This would reduce risk and bring in penalty funds to offset losses and support future projects.
Ben glanced at the list, looking at Jasmine in astonishment. "Ma'am, you also have this list?"
Jasmine had hidden it well.
With this trump card, no matter how proud Deborah was, it would all be in vain.
She used the list to threaten those people to cooperate with her. But if all those people got into trouble, she would lose everything.
Moreover, Deborah had also made a deal with Avery, trading shares of the Hawthorne Group.
"Since you had this list all along, why wait until now?" Ben was puzzled.
She could have used the list earlier as leverage for negotiations or deals.
"The bigger they are, the harder they fall," Jasmine said coldly, her eyes indifferent.
From the day Deborah tried to take Ethan from her, Jasmine had been planning to get rid of Deborah.
She was never someone who could not fight back, and human nature was not simply black and white.
In the past, Jasmine couldn't resist and couldn't deliver a fatal blow to others. She could only endure and remain silent.
But now, Jasmine understood that to deal with a venomous snake, she had to find its weak spot; otherwise, it would bite back.
"Ben, I trust you. I'll leave this matter to you," Jasmine said, looking at Ben.
She trusted Ben, which was why she let him handle it.
Ben nodded. "Don't worry. I'll take care of it."
After Ben left, Jasmine took a deep breath and stood by the window.
In this war, she could only win, not lose.
She had to protect the Douglas family and wait for Ethan to return.
"Avery, everything is almost ready on my end. You should prepare as well." Jasmine called Avery.
Avery and Deborah's bet was about to reach its climax.
Jasmine deliberately chose this day for the press conference to make Deborah fall harder, ensuring she would never recover.
During a meeting, Deborah barged in on Avery without any regard, confidently taking a seat next to Avery as if she were about to become the CEO of the Hawthorne Group.
"Although Dad is temporarily under investigation, the company still needs someone to manage it. Avery's abilities are limited, so this position should go to someone capable," Deborah said proudly, leaning back in her chair and looking at all the senior executives and board members in the meeting.
"Alright, the meeting adjourned. Everyone, return to your posts and keep up the good work." Avery ignored Deborah, treating her as if she were invisible and dismissing everyone.
Deborah snorted coldly. She thought, 'Let's see how long Avery can stay smug.'
"Avery, the time for our bet is almost up," Deborah said, taking out the contract. "The board members are here to witness. According to the contract, if by the end, your total project amount and volume are below mine, you lose."
The board members exchanged glances and nodded. "Yes, Deborah's abilities are stronger."
"Although Avery is more stable and reliable in her work, but..."
The board members began to waver.
Avery quietly looked at Deborah and smiled. "Isn't there still a few hours left?"
"You're too far behind. A few hours? It's impossible to win," Deborah said arrogantly.
Avery raised an eyebrow.
Deborah snorted coldly. "Stop making a last-ditch effort. It's meaningless. You might as well hand over the company and your shares to me now and leave with some dignity."
Avery played with the pen in her hand, stopping Kayla from saying anything.
Avery thought, 'Let her be arrogant.'
"Avery, are you trying to back out?" Deborah frowned.
"I said: there are still a few hours left. Just wait," Avery said in a low voice.
Deborah gritted her teeth. "Fine, let's see what tricks you can pull. It's just a delay tactic. Since you want to wait, I'll wait with you. There are three hours left. Let's see what you can come up with!"
Avery glanced at the time, waiting calmly.
"Avery, are you sure Jasmine can handle it?" Kayla whispered in Avery's ear.
It was getting critical.
"Of course." Avery trusted Jasmine.
Once the Douglas Group's press conference started, the outcome would be clear.
Years ago, Deborah used her favor to get Ethan to help her acquire shares from the Hawthorne Group. Jasmine would make her return everything.
If Deborah lost this bet, she would truly have nothing left.
She would have to start from scratch.
