Chapter 727 It's Sophia's Turn
At Woodland Cemetery, Jasmine didn't hold a funeral for Emily; it wasn't the right time. She needed to uncover the truth first.
"Lily couldn't have done it alone. Who's helping her?" Jasmine's voice was hoarse.
"Get some rest tonight. Leave this to me," Ethan said, feeling heartbroken for Jasmine, who hadn't slept in days.
The sky was gloomy and drizzling. Ethan held an umbrella for Jasmine, his eyes full of concern.
Jasmine could barely stand and leaned on Ethan's shoulder. "We agreed that Emily would be the godmother after the baby was born. She loved kids but couldn't have her own, so she wanted to treat mine like hers. She wanted Justin, Joe, and the baby to look after her when she got old. I promised her that."
Ethan remained silent, holding Jasmine tighter.
"Lily already knows we've returned to San Fransisco," Raymond said as he walked over and placed a bouquet of white chrysanthemums for Emily.
"Let's go home," Ethan said, holding Jasmine's hand.
Lily wouldn't give up easily, and the person behind her had already surfaced.
Next, there would be a confrontation.
Jasmine said in a deep voice, "Sophia could heal with Lily."
They needed another villain to deal with a villain. Sophia knew that Lily was no longer the same and wouldn't miss such a valuable opportunity.
Whether Lily or Sophia won, it would be mutual destruction.
At Kerea, Lily sat on the couch, clutching a napkin and tearing it to shreds.
"It seems they've figured something out." Lily's voice was low.
"They did figure it out. The police said they found a note wrapped in plastic in Emily's stomach. It had writing on it," her subordinate said in a deep voice.
Lily's face darkened, her eyes reddening. "They forced me."
Lily took a deep breath. She was just trying to survive. She didn't want to kill Jasmine.
But Jasmine didn't want her to live.
Lily's phone kept buzzing. She glanced at it irritably; it was Sophia again. Sophia had leverage over her and must have known by now that Lily had taken control of the Powell family using the child.
"Lily, are you deliberately not answering my calls, or is life with the Powell family so good that you've forgotten your grandfather is still in San Fransisco for treatment?" Sophia questioned, condescendingly confident that no matter how high Lily climbed, she couldn't escape her control.
"How could I forget? My grandfather still relies on you. I'm just a puppet without real power in the Powell family," Lily said politely.
"Good to know," Sophia said. "Given your situation with the Powell family, hasn't Edward contacted you?"
"Edward is a peculiar person. Once he knew I had a child with Xavier, he stopped contacting me. But I had already explained that I chose Xavier because he is the sole heir of the Powell family, while Edward, being the second son of the Cunningham family, is nothing." Lily lied to Sophia.
Sophia was pleased. "You did well. The Cunningham family is in chaos now."
Nolan had been kicked out of the company, and now Edward and Edgar were fighting for power.
The Cunningham family was too preoccupied to bother with Jasmine and Ethan.
"I'll do whatever you ask," Lily said, her eyes filled with murderous intent.
Sophia was satisfied. "You better. Don't forget, I have videos and photos of you. If those get to Kerea, you know what a family like the Powells values most."
Lily clenched her fists. "Madam, I'll always follow your orders."
Sophia hung up, satisfied.
Lily threw the pillow in her hands. "Sophia! Who do you think you are to threaten me? You're just relying on your mercenaries!"
Lily looked at her assistant. "Go to San Fransisco and find a man named Alex Lin in Southgate Alley. He's Sophia's man. Years ago, he almost got killed in Muskow, but Sophia saved him. Since then, he's been managing her thugs. Does Sophia think she's the only one with leverage over me?"
Lily sneered.
Everyone had a price.
If they didn't, it just meant the price wasn't high enough.
She didn't believe that without Alex and the mercenaries, Sophia would be anything.
Before eliminating Jasmine and Ethan, she had to get rid of these nuisances.
Otherwise, they would hinder her progress.
Richard arrived at the Cunningham family, and Arnold was there too.
Richard had come secretly. Recently, Sophia had been pressuring him to marry Aleah.
He pretended to be injured to buy some time.
"I found someone named Alex," Richard said, placing the information on the table. "Sophia is very cautious and rarely uses him, but I used some tricks, and she contacted him. Alex probably manages all her mercenaries."
Arnold glanced at the information. "Can we contact him?"
"Sophia saved his life. He's known for being ruthless but loyal to Sophia. He's been working for her all these years." Richard shook his head. "And he's smart. He rarely acts personally. Without evidence, we can't catch him."
Without evidence, it was hard to act.
"He's not invincible. There must be a flaw," Arnold said in a deep voice. "Your wife has been showing for a while now and rarely goes out. It's easy to expose her. You need to speed things up with Sophia."
Richard was stunned, eager to run home.
"Let him come home for a bit," Cordelia said angrily, glaring at Arnold. "All you do is pressure him."
Arnold looked innocent. "I just want him to finish the task quickly and come home."
"By the way, that Alex almost died on the street back then. It was Willian and Sophia who saved him. Willian paid for his treatment. Maybe we can have Willian meet him." Richard suggested.
Arnold's face darkened instantly.
What a son.
"No way!" Cordelia said.
She thought, 'Asking me to beg Willian? Not a chance.'
Willian had been trying to come over every day. If it weren't for the large dog Arnold had given Cordelia to guard the door, Willian would have barged in by now.
