Chapter 490 Aleah Invites Betty Out

They were about to get close when David, the bodyguard, rushed in.

"Richard!"

Richard, now used to these interruptions, didn't feel embarrassed with Betty clinging to him. He coughed to break the tension, holding Betty to keep her from falling. "What's up?"

"Aleah's outside and wants to see you," David said, pointing outside.

Aleah had been showing up every few days. If it weren't for this secure estate, Betty would have moved out with Richard long ago.

"She's so annoying!" Betty grumbled but still clung to Richard. "You go handle it."

"You trust me to handle it?" Richard put down the egg he was holding.

"I trust you!" Betty said with a fake smile.

Richard sighed. "No, I don't trust myself to go alone."

"Your ex-girlfriend is gentle and clingy. What are you worried about?" Betty said sarcastically.

"I'm worried about you," Richard said, rubbing his forehead. It was clear Betty wanted him to stay and cook, ignoring everything else.

"So what now, Richard?" Betty teased.

Richard took a deep breath and coughed. "Stop it. David is still here."

David quickly turned around. "I'm not here. I'm leaving now."

Richard was helpless. "Tell Aleah I've done everything I can for her; the past is the past. She shouldn't come again. I won't see her."

David looked troubled. "I've told her that countless times. She's too persistent."

Outside, Ryder ran in. "Richard, Aleah is pretending to faint!"

Betty finally let go of Richard. "Aren't you going to check?"

Richard was silent, making a decision. "I'm not a doctor."

It wasn't that he was cold; he just couldn't give Aleah any more opportunities or hope.

If she saw hope, she'd push her limits.

Richard already thought Aleah was crazy.

"Are you a doctor?" Betty asked Ryder irritably.

Ryder scratched his head. "No."

"Then call 911!" Betty frowned and walked out.

At the villa entrance, Aleah had fainted, lying on the ground, looking pale but beautiful.

Even her fainting posture was so perfect that not only would men feel pity, but even Betty thought this woman had a fragile beauty.

"Boss, is she dying? Or is she sick?" Ryder asked cautiously, afraid of being blackmailed by Aleah.

A beautiful woman in a white dress fainted so elegantly, yet these men were afraid of being blackmailed.

"I don't know either." Betty checked the time. "Why isn't the ambulance here yet?"

"It shouldn't be that fast," David whispered.

The bodyguards stood in a row, watching Aleah pretend to faint.

"Stop staring. Get her a bottle of water." Betty glanced at David. "No wonder you don't have a girlfriend."

David looked terrified. "Last time Richard came back, she suddenly fainted. When Richard asked me to help her, she clung to me and wouldn't let go. I don't dare."

Betty sighed. She didn't know what Aleah was holding on to.

"If you're willing to throw away your dignity, I can only assume you're here for the money, not for Richard." Betty stared down at Aleah, who lay sprawled on the ground. "Poverty doesn't excuse a lack of morals."

Aleah's eyelashes fluttered as she clenched her hands, pretending to faint and refusing to wake up.

"Richard won't see you because there's nothing between you anymore. If you keep this up, I'll call the police," Betty warned sternly.

Aleah finally opened her eyes slowly and weakly sat up, supporting herself on the ground.

David and the others looked terrified. "I told you she was pretending."

"I'm not pretending," Aleah said, her face pale. "I haven't eaten for days, low blood sugar."

Seeing Aleah soften her tone, Betty wasn't as harsh. "The ambulance will be here soon. Go to the hospital and get some glucose."

"No need." Aleah stood up, supporting herself on the ground. "I'm just not giving up. I came to see if he still has feelings for me."

After a long silence, Aleah spoke hoarsely, "Betty, I actually admire you. You can make a man who once loved me so much now have only you in his heart."

Betty raised her chin. She didn't mind hearing this. It would have been better if she had said this earlier. Those who knew Betty knew she loved to hear compliments.

"Let's talk, just you and me, not involving Richard. Have a meal with me," Aleah said weakly.

Betty thought about it and didn't plan to agree.

"The last time, have a meal with me and talk. I'll resolve my issues and stop bothering Richard," Aleah said, her eyes red as she looked at Betty.

"Let's go." Betty didn't refuse. If Aleah kept her word, this meal would be worth it.

The driver brought the car around, and Betty let Aleah get in.

Aleah hesitated but got in the car. Betty was indeed wealthy. Even a random car was worth millions.

"Back then, I chose to go abroad and marry because that man was rich and decent," Aleah said softly. "I don't think I was wrong. I just chose the life I wanted, but I was unlucky." Aleah clenched her hands. "I'm not like you. I wasn't born with wealth. Marriage was my second chance to change my fate."

Aleah still didn't think her choice was wrong. "Everyone wants both bread and butter. Better to cry in a mansion than to laugh in a shack." Aleah looked at Betty. "You don't have these worries because you were born rich."

"You know, when I was in school, I knew a girl like you, very rich. Her monthly allowance was over thirty thousand dollars." Having seen the huge gap between rich and poor, she couldn't accept being poor.

"I loved Richard, but I couldn't tolerate spending the rest of my life with him, struggling to make a living every day, living a mediocre life." Back then, Aleah had no idea what Richard's future would be like. Few poor people succeed.

"I can't judge your life or say if you're right or wrong. Everyone has their own choices. Once you make a choice, you have to take responsibility and not regret it." Betty looked at Aleah. "Let go of the past. Richard no longer belongs to you. From the moment you made your choice, his future, whether rich or poor, has nothing to do with you."

Aleah laughed sarcastically but said nothing. She couldn't accept it.

At the restaurant entrance, Aleah got out of the car with Betty. Taking advantage of Betty's inattention, she secretly sent a message: [I got her out, and she's alone.]
