Chapter 640 Jasmine Betrays Edgar

"Where's Edgar?" Jessica looked around, her surprise at Edgar's presence overshadowing her anger.

Jasmine spotted Edgar trying to slip away in the crowd.

"Edgar!" Jasmine called out, grinning.

Edgar sighed.

Standing up straight, he turned to greet Avery. "Hey."

Avery crossed her arms, watching Edgar with interest. Her face showed a mix of curiosity and coldness.

Typical Avery, always cool and collected, even in surprising situations.

Compared to Avery, Edgar was clearly more rattled.

He cleared his throat, walked over, and whispered in Jasmine's ear, "Jasmine, how could you betray me?"

Jasmine smiled. "It's for your own good."

Edgar straightened up, took the necklace from Kayla, and examined it. "This is nice. Is Jessica unhappy with its value, or did you really misjudge its quality?"

Seeing Edgar, Jessica's expression changed instantly. She approached with a smile. "Edgar, I heard you were back. Didn't expect to see you. Did you come back for me?"

Edgar dodged Jessica and stood behind Avery. "You're overthinking it. I came with my girlfriend."

Avery frowned, warning Edgar not to say anything stupid.

Edgar, being clever, hugged Avery's arm in front of everyone. "Avery, aren't you going to take responsibility for me?"

Even Avery was taken aback by Edgar's sudden move.

Avery thought, 'Is he nuts? We'll deal with this later.'

On the side, Edward rubbed his temples and looked at Jasmine. "Let's go. We don't know him. He's not part of the Cunningham family."

Jessica clenched her fists in anger. "Edgar, you and Avery?"

Edgar nodded. "Yeah, don't we make a great couple?"

Jessica turned and stormed off.

In this delicate situation, Jasmine sensed something different.

Edgar was known in the Cunningham family for his love of fun, but his reputation was mixed. He used to be a playboy, always changing girlfriends, and now he was seen as irresponsible. Overall, people thought more negatively of him than positively.

As a daughter of a prestigious family, the Phillips family would never allow Jessica to choose Edgar as a marriage partner.

They would have to choose Nolan or Edward.

But Jessica had a crush on Edgar.

And Edgar revealing his relationship with Avery in front of Jessica seemed like he was drawing a line, or maybe using Avery to get rid of Jessica.

Jasmine thought carefully. Edgar often went to San Francisco back then; otherwise, he wouldn't have found Joe. Was he going to San Francisco to avoid someone?

"When did you get involved with the Cunningham family?" Owen asked in a deep voice. "How come I didn't know?"

Avery frowned, looking at Edgar. "We're not really dating, just having fun."

Owen stayed silent, giving Edgar a meaningful look.

Edgar felt a bit hurt. Avery really was just playing with him.

"If you have to choose someone from the Cunningham family, it won't be him. Got it?" Owen whispered to Avery.

Avery clenched her fists.

The Hawthorne family sought absolute benefits, and Edgar, who seemed the most irresponsible and uninvolved in the Cunningham Group's management, was not the best choice.

Nolan was the best choice.

In Owen's mind, both Avery and Deborah were just pawns.

Deborah shot Avery a cold look. "Avery's really lucky to be with Edgar."

Deborah laughed, not giving Avery any face in front of everyone. "I heard Edgar's got quite the bad rep for being wild."

Edgar squinted, lazily leaning against the wall. "Where'd you hear that from? Did I sleep with you?"

Deborah's face darkened instantly. "What nonsense are you talking about?"

"I didn't sleep with you, so why are you so excited? You're not good-looking, but you're good at spreading rumors. I'm standing here clean and innocent, and you dare to slander me?" Edgar retorted, his presence overwhelming.

Deborah felt an inexplicable fear. It was best not to mess with any of the three from the Cunningham family.

The people around didn't laugh at Avery but instead mocked Deborah. She had brought this upon herself.

Deborah glared at Avery and whispered, "If you really have the skills, compete with me on your own merits. Relying on a man makes me look down on you."

"Well, you even don't have a man to rely on," Kayla whispered.

Avery raised her hand and patted Kayla's head. "Alright, be careful, or someone might beat you up when I'm not around."

Kayla straightened her neck. "I'm not afraid. I don't bow to authority."

"Get away." Edgar pushed Kayla away, clearly annoyed.

During his time with Avery, Edgar wasn't wary of men but was always on guard against Kayla. She was clingy and really annoying.

Kayla glared at Edgar. She had thought he was just a gold digger, but it turned out he was from the Cunningham family. "Liar!"

Realizing he was someone she couldn't afford to offend, Kayla ran away.

Jasmine found Kayla amusing and tugged at Edward with a smile. "Let's go."

She wanted to give Avery and Edgar some personal space.

As soon as Jasmine and Edward left, Edgar pleaded, "Avery, I was wrong. I really was. I didn't mean to deceive you; you misunderstood."

Avery gave Edgar a cold look. "Since you're not helpless, get out of here."

Edgar's back tensed, and he spoke softly, "No need to kick me out, right? I know I was wrong."

Avery stopped and looked at Edgar. "With your reputation, if you want to play, I can play along. But don't play emotional games with me."

Edgar stood still, looking at Avery. She was truly heartless.

Avery warned again, "Our relationship ends here. You're someone who can play, so let's end it."

"Why? Just because I'm from the Cunningham family? Because of those nasty rumors?" Edgar was a bit anxious.

Avery shook her head. "No, it's because you're not qualified, not worthy."

According to Owen's plan, her marriage partner was supposed to be Nolan, not Edgar.

Indeed, it would never be Edgar.

His nature was still too pure, protected too well by Nolan and Edward. Essentially, he was still clean and shouldn't be dragged into this.

The Cunningham family didn't let him participate in the company's management, allowing him to do what he liked, start his own business, go crazy, and live freely. It was a form of protection and love.

She thought, 'Edgar is showered with love while I'm the one unworthy.'

Over there, as soon as Jasmine sat down, Ben came over and whispered, "The paternity test results for Lisa and Mark are out."
