Chapter 802 Amelia Caught in a Public Opinion Storm
"Hestia, when you have time, invite your boyfriend to dinner with us," the other two roommates chimed in. "Don't worry, if he really gets taken by Jessa, it means he's not a good guy anyway."
Jessa looked at that roommate. "What are you saying? Am I a garbage dump?"
The roommate pursed her lips and muttered softly, "Pretty much."
Jessa got a bit angry, snorted, and walked away.
Although everyone in the school thought Hestia was a joke, with Saul sleeping with her roommate Jessa, the people in the dorm still had some basic judgment skills.
Jessa hardly stayed in the dorm throughout the year, mostly living outside. When she did come back, she had a lot of issues and liked to show off, so not many people really liked her.
Hestia smiled at her roommates. "Don't get mad at her."
"She knows what she did," the roommate scoffed.
Hestia shook her head. "You're right, any man who can be taken away is a fickle one."
"Yeah, we should thank her," they laughed as they walked to the library. "Hestia, the professor only recommended you for the internship at the Cunningham Group's legal department. You have to do well and try to get a permanent position."
Another roommate muttered softly, "The professor didn't recommend Jessa. She is furious and badmouthing you everywhere, saying the Cunningham Group would never keep you, and that she could get a permanent position even without an internship."
"Yeah, I heard that too. She's very jealous, saying her boyfriend is a high-up at the Cunningham Group and can help her get in, while you have no connections and are just a bookworm who doesn't know how to be flexible. They're all waiting to see you fail." The roommate chimed in.
Hestia felt the pressure and spoke softly, "Actually, I'm not very confident. The Cunningham Group is such a big company, it's really hard to stay. It seems like connections are important even if I have the ability."
Hestia was telling the truth. Those who got internships at the Cunningham Group's legal department were all capable, and when abilities were similar, connections became crucial.
Although Hestia was top in all assessments, she was still afraid that without connections, she would be eliminated.
"Does your boyfriend have any background? Can't he help you?" a classmate asked.
Hestia shook her head. "We met on a date. He's in the Cunningham Group's Strategic and Technology Management Department. He came to our school for a lecture before, but he doesn't have any family background. He's also struggling at the Cunningham Group. I don't want to make things difficult for him."
"A high-up at the Cunningham Group! If he came to our school for a lecture, he must be someone important," the roommate said excitedly.
Hestia sighed. "Although he's directly managed by the president of the Cunningham Group, he doesn't quite get along with the management. From his complaints, it seems he has a strained relationship with the president, who often makes things difficult for him. If I trouble him now and someone catches on, it wouldn't be good. I'll just leave it to fate."
The two roommates nodded regretfully. "Yeah, it's tough when he offended the president."
"Well, let's rely on yourself. Who knows, you might get in," they encouraged each other with smiles.
Hestia nodded. "Yes, effort matters. As long as I try our best."
Sunrise City.
Amelia's guesthouse.
Someone posted about Amelia and Nathaniel's relationship online, and then countless fans started to cyberbully and insult Amelia.
Someone dug up that Amelia was Lawrence's daughter, and Lawrence had been accused of bullying numerous popular stars, with some even claiming he had bullied Nathaniel.
Suddenly, not only Nathaniel's fans were cursing, but also the fans of those stars bullied by Lawrence.
Some even quickly found the location of the guesthouse.
Those fans spontaneously came to protest, demanding that Amelia stop ruining Nathaniel, telling her to get out of the country and not embarrass herself by staying here.
Amelia hid in her room, looking at the garden destroyed by the fans, her eyes red.
She just wanted to live a good life, why was it so hard?
"Amelia, because of the fans' insults, the online reviews are terrible, and we haven't had any guests for days." The employee was worried. "If this continues, they might do something even crazier."
These fans were so scary.
Amelia lowered her head and sniffled. "I'll give you all a break. If I can resolve this, I'll give you paid leave. If not, I'm sorry, I'll give you three months' extra salary."
"Amelia, it's not about the salary. You're pregnant, and it's not safe for you to be here alone. Call Nathaniel, since he caused this, let him solve it."
Amelia shook her head. "No, it's was me, who asked Nathaniel for help. This has nothing to do with him. I don't want to trouble him further. Besides, how can he clarify? Should he claim he has nothing to do with me? The fans still won't let me go."
If Nathaniel admitted she was his girlfriend, it would breach his contract, and the company wouldn't allow it.
So, the best thing for Nathaniel to do was to stay silent.
"Amelia, you..." The employee sighed, feeling sorry for her. "Eat something, at least for the baby's sake."
Amelia nodded with red eyes.
She just had no appetite, regretting that caused trouble for Nathaniel.
Nathaniel's residence.
As soon as the news broke, Nathaniel got anxious and wanted to see Amelia, but his manager blocked his door. "Nathaniel, you're not a newbie anymore. Think about the company, not just yourself. Do you know how much the company spent to package you? Do you want your image to collapse?"
Nathaniel rubbed his temples. "I didn't think it through and caused her trouble. I'll make our relationship public."
"Are you crazy!" The manager threw his bag at Nathaniel. "Immediately clarify on Twitter that the crew was just staying there and you have nothing to do with Amelia. Say she used Lawrence's connections to harass you."
Nathaniel looked at the manager, his face darkening. "If you post that and involve Lawrence, you'll get her killed! Have you thought about what those fans will do to her?"
"That's not our concern. You're the company's artist, responsible for your actions. You work based on your looks and need to be accountable to your fans. If you don't clarify, we will."
"Zachary, don't push it! If you do that, I'll terminate my contract immediately!" Nathaniel glared at the manager, knowing this would push Amelia to the brink.
"Nathaniel, the company has already taken your account. The PR department will handle it. As for you, think about your capabilities before talking about termination. Do you think you are worth much? Think carefully before you speak!" Zachary Baker scolded coldly, taking Nathaniel's phone. "From now on, someone will spy on you. Don't try to cause trouble."
