Chapter 627 Jasmine Competes for the Douglas Family
"They won't tell me the truth. You tell me." Jasmine propped herself up, her voice hoarse. "No matter what happened, just tell me, is Ethan still alive?"
She just needed him to be alive.
Connor looked up at Jasmine. "Yes."
But there were many ways to be alive.
At least he wasn't lying.
Jasmine couldn't help but cry, choking out, "Don't lie to me."
"I want Ethan dead," Connor said in a deep voice.
Jasmine lowered her head, took a deep breath, and closed her eyes. "I understand. Thank you."
"You're pregnant. The child inside you is Ethan's hope. He missed Justin and Joe's birth and growth; he won't miss this child's birth." Connor tried to comfort Jasmine.
For some reason, his words always had a way of convincing Jasmine. Maybe it was because Connor had saved her many times as her psychologist.
"Claire has someone backing her. Even though Howard is dead, the person behind Claire is still formidable. Now that both Howard and Ethan are in trouble, the Douglas Group might fall into her and Daniel's hands." Connor deliberately provoked Jasmine.
Jasmine opened her eyes, her voice low. "In her dreams."
Claire wanted to reap the benefits? She had to have that fate first.
"I'm not dead yet." Jasmine clenched her fists tightly. The Douglas Group originally belonged to Ethan. Since it was Ethan's, she would definitely help him protect it.
Connor seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and nodded. "Then let's see what you can do."
With that, Connor left.
Then Jasmine said, "Ben, contact Ethan's lawyer and have Brandon come see me. Also, have Liam keep an eye on Claire and report any news to me immediately."
Ben stood at the door, looking at Jasmine in surprise, and quickly nodded. "Okay!"
"Tom, contact Richard to take over the Douglas Group's security department. Here's the security agreement Ethan signed with LY. We'll take full control." Jasmine instructed Tom to get rid of Daniel, leaving Claire without leverage.
As for Howard, he and Claire were already divorced. Claire wanted to fight for Howard's shares now? That's too late!
Tom opened his mouth but, afraid of saying the wrong thing, quickly nodded. "Okay. I'll get right on it."
At the Douglas Group, Claire held a press conference, tearfully announcing Howard's death and speaking about their deep bond.
She wore a black business dress and sunglasses, putting on quite a show. "We were a couple. After his death, I will manage the Douglas Group on his behalf as the primary heir to his estate."
"Primary heir? Who do you think you are?" At the door, Jasmine walked in wearing a navy blue suit and high heels, exuding a strong presence.
Tom and Ben followed behind Jasmine, ready to protect her at any moment.
Claire said, "Jasmine, I'm Ethan's mother. I also felt very sad about what happened to Ethan."
"Mother?" Jasmine sneered. "Who do you think you are?"
Claire looked at Jasmine in surprise. In the past, even as the Cunningham family's daughter, Jasmine was gentle and non-aggressive, never using her status to intimidate. Why did she seem so frightening today?
Jasmine walked up to the reporters and spoke in a deep voice, "Howard divorced Claire half a month ago. As far as I know, she left with nothing."
"Jasmine, what do you mean?" Claire was a bit angry. "We just haven't had time to divide the property yet."
"I don't mind showing everyone why Claire left with nothing." Jasmine glanced at Ben.
Ben took out a USB drive and plugged it into the computer, projecting it onto the large screen in the company's lobby.
On the screen was a scandalous video of Claire and Mark.
"Jasmine!" Claire screamed, lunging for the USB drive, but security stopped her cold.
"Why are you stopping me? Turn all this off! This is the Douglas Group. I'm Howard's wife. I have the right to his estate and shares! You have to listen to me," Claire shouted, losing all her previous composure.
But the security didn't budge and kept her at bay.
Jasmine looked at Claire and spoke coldly, "From now on, I control the company's personnel."
The reporters were stunned, cameras flashing like crazy. This was headline material.
Claire's affair was out in the open, and now there was a showdown over the estate between the daughter-in-law and the mother-in-law?
"Since the reporters have what they need, let's wrap this up. Escort everyone out, and no outsiders are allowed into the company," Jasmine instructed the head of security.
The security team quickly cleared the room, ushering the reporters out.
Claire glared at Jasmine. "Do you think a few words in front of the reporters will get you all the property? Jasmine, I really underestimated you. Your ambition is so big? Let me tell you, Howard's shares belong to my son!"
Sure, Daniel had inheritance rights.
"That depends on whether he lives to claim it," Jasmine said, glancing at her watch. "I heard you called a board meeting. That saves me the trouble of finding you all one by one. Let's go. Don't keep them waiting."
"Jasmine! Do you really think you're something just because you have the Cunningham family backing you?" Claire lunged at Jasmine.
Tom stepped in and knocked Claire back with a solid bump.
"With the Cunningham family backing her, she is really something!" Cordelia walked in with Edward and Edgar, standing behind Jasmine.
"Nolan is busy, so I'm here on behalf of the Cunningham Group to back you up," Cordelia reassured Jasmine, holding her hand.
Jasmine's eyes reddened, but she held back her emotions and nodded.
She couldn't cry, nor could she show weakness.
Facing these villains, she had to be stronger than them.
Claire snorted. "My lawyer is already here, and Daniel will be here soon. No matter who you bring, Howard's estate should belong to my son. Ethan's dead anyway."
Jasmine slapped Claire.
Claire looked at Jasmine in shock. She dared to hit her?
Jasmine said, "Claire, your good luck is over. Daniel does have the right to inherit Howard's estate. But unfortunately, he won't be able to enjoy it."
Jasmine stepped closer, staring Claire down. "Six years ago, you and the Wilson family framed me for extortion, forcing me to plead guilty and go to prison. You made Daniel do it all. He should know what prison is like. How many years do you think he'll get?"
Claire looked at Jasmine in horror, her whole body stiffening and then trembling. "Jasmine! What are you trying to do? Daniel had nothing to do with those things. You have no evidence! You have no evidence!"
"What if Daniel confesses voluntarily?" Jasmine sneered. "Did you forget? When you sent me to prison, there was no absolute evidence either. I confessed myself."
Claire collapsed to the ground, looking at Jasmine in disbelief.
Impossible. How did Jasmine suddenly become so terrifying?
Jasmine went on, "Daniel is going to prison. Who is the person behind you? Tell me, and maybe I can issue a letter of understanding to reduce Daniel's sentence by a few years."
"Impossible! Daniel won't confess. He is not a fool like you. He won't confess!" Claire screamed, trying to call Daniel.
