Chapter 475 Jasmine's Full Assault on the Harper Family
Jasmine used the Cunningham family's connections to get specialists to check on Zelda. They confirmed she wasn't mentally ill, so Jasmine got her out of the psychiatric hospital and had those who detained her arrested.
Those people admitted Annabelle had bribed the hospital's doctors to set everything up.
The police then brought Annabelle in for questioning.
At the station, Zelda, wrapped in a towel and shaking, saw Annabelle again.
Annabelle, still in her fancy designer clothes, looked radiant, while Zelda looked worn out.
Annabelle walked by, ignoring Zelda completely.
Zelda glared at Annabelle, fists clenched.
"You're causing a scene and embarrassing us!" Thomson and Amanda yelled at Zelda, blaming her for the shame.
Zelda laughed, finally understanding the helplessness Jasmine once felt.
Her parents, who spoiled her when she was doing well, failed to teach her right from wrong. Now, at her lowest, they kicked her while she was down.
Zelda took a deep breath and smiled. "Mom, I know I was wrong."
Amanda was surprised but then snorted. "Annabelle's right; you need to suffer to learn."
Zelda nodded. "Mom, I'll listen from now on. I'll stay home, cook, clean, and keep you company."
Thomson said nothing, just told her to get in the car.
Zelda sat in the back seat, looking out at the world.
Though the sun was shining, she felt surrounded by darkness.
"Annabelle's now part of the Douglas family and high up in the Douglas Group. She can't get into trouble. You need to reapply for an evaluation, admit you were lying, and say you're ill. We won't send you back to the hospital; you'll rest at home," Thomson finally said.
A chill ran down Zelda's spine.
Any lingering affection she had for her family was now gone.
Her eyes grew vacant, but she kept smiling. "Dad, I'll do whatever you say."
Thomson nodded. "Alright, then go to the police station and tell them to release Annabelle."
Zelda numbly got out of the car and went back to the station.
She told the police she was indeed mentally ill, with mania and violent tendencies, and that the hospital hadn't made a mistake.
Annabelle was sure Zelda would comply, not wanting to go back to the hospital.
"If you behave, I won't send you back," Annabelle said with a smile.
Zelda threw herself into Annabelle's arms, crying, but her eyes were cold.
At Silverlight City University, Jasmine sat on a bench, watching Zelda approach in a trench coat. "I didn't expect you to get out. I thought they'd keep a close watch."
"I've been behaving well," Zelda said calmly, seeming like a different person.
"Is this the evidence you wanted? Are we even now?" Zelda handed over the Harper family's criminal evidence to Jasmine.
Jasmine looked at the evidence and said, "In this world, there's no fairness. The victor writes the rules."
The truth lies with the victor.
"When are you going after the Harper family?" Zelda asked.
"Today," Jasmine replied with a smile. "Waiting too long could cause problems."
Zelda nodded. "You're right, no time to waste."
She had to act fast too.
After Zelda left, Jasmine gave the evidence to Liam, telling him to handle it.
Meanwhile, Jasmine set up a meeting with Daniel.
Feeling honored, Daniel rushed over.
"Jasmine, my mom mentioned you today," Daniel said excitedly. "She wants to apologize for the past."
Jasmine thought for a moment and shook her head. "Let's not dig up old stuff."
"Jasmine, I'm sorry," Daniel said, looking down.
Jasmine was silent for a bit before speaking. "You and Annabelle aren't divorced yet. It's not right for me to go to your place."
Daniel quickly responded, "Jasmine, I'm done with her. We just haven't finalized the divorce. She's on a business trip and won't be home tonight, and my dad's not home either."
Jasmine hesitated, looking unsure. "But I'll feel lonely at your place."
"Don't worry, my mom made your favorite dishes. She's waiting for you," Daniel said nervously, watching her closely.
A few days ago, he saw Jasmine post her marriage certificate with Ethan online. He thought she did it to make him jealous and angry that he hadn't divorced Annabelle yet.
So, Daniel had been extra attentive, hoping to bring Jasmine home and slowly earn her forgiveness, helping her let go of past grievances.
Jasmine nodded. "Alright."
Daniel, eyes red with excitement, quickly led Jasmine to the parking lot and drove her home.
At some point, Daniel had placed a new sticker on the passenger seat.
In the past, when they were together, Jasmine had also bought such stickers and placed them on the passenger seat.
Back then, Jasmine's eyes were filled with him.
She had said, "Daniel, only I can sit in your passenger seat."
Jasmine looked at the sticker on the passenger seat, her body stiffening with disgust.
Belated affection only made her feel nauseous.
With a sarcastic snort, Jasmine remained silent throughout the drive, not saying a word.
Jasmine hadn't told Ethan about this. If he knew, he'd surely disapprove. But she needed to deal with Annabelle quickly and send a warning to Sophia and Karen.
If they kept targeting those she cared about, it wouldn't just be Annabelle facing consequences.
"Jasmine, I'm so touched you came," Claire said, her acting impeccable, eyes red as she warmly greeted Jasmine.
She had once worn the same face.
Jasmine subtly avoided her, smiling. "Claire, when does Daniel plan to divorce Annabelle? Is that child really not Daniel's?"
"That slut, the child definitely isn't Daniel's. She used every trick to get pregnant, even trying to drug Daniel. Luckily, Daniel was cautious and escaped in time, or he would have fallen into her trap," Claire said angrily, cursing Annabelle.
Daniel quickly added, "Jasmine, it's really not mine."
"Really? But judging by Howard's attitude, that child is considered part of the Douglas family. He even publicly announced that Annabelle was carrying the Douglas bloodline. If it's not Daniel's child, why would Mr. Douglas be so concerned? Could it be?" Jasmine trailed off, feigning surprise.
She knew Claire was a suspicious woman and deliberately planted the seed of doubt.
Sure enough, Claire's expression changed.
Could Annabelle's child be...Horwads'?
