Chapter 927 Rhett's Dead End

Avery's Place

Rhett hadn't dared to come home for a while now. With Avery, the lunatic, around, he didn't want to risk provoking her.

But this time, he had cut ties with the Powell family, and he had to push Edgar.

"Lyanna, where's Edgar? Tell him to come out," Rhett said as he arrived home, but he didn't dare to go directly into Avery's room.

Lyanna rolled her eyes. Edgar was in Avery's room, and Rhett had picked the wrong time to come back.

But she couldn't say that directly, so she whispered, "Edgar went back to the Cunningham Mansion. The Cunningham family seems to have a lot going on lately."

Rhett rubbed his temples. "When he gets back, tell him I need to talk to him."

Rhett wanted to secure the Silverlight City project. Vincent and Lily had teamed up to scheme against him, and he intended to take the project for himself.

As for Lily, she had the nerve to get the Powell family to sabotage the Murray Group's project!

That was simply unforgivable.

"Rhett, has something happened recently? You don't seem very happy," Lyanna asked softly.

Rhett snorted. "Telling you won't help. Just call Edgar. Didn't he promise to marry you? Go get your marriage license already."

Rhett wanted to collaborate with the Cunningham family. Even if they didn't work together, he needed to benefit from them.

Cutting ties with the Powell family was a big blow to the Murray Group. He had to fill the gap quickly, or his father, Beck, wouldn't let him off the hook.

Rhett's eyes flashed with fear as he rubbed his temples. Rhett rubbed his brow, a flicker of fear in his eyes—for all his madness, there was only one person he truly feared: Beck.

Edgar was hiding in Avery's room, almost getting shoved into the closet again.

Avery looked at Edgar's resentful face and wanted to laugh.

"Don't worry. The Hawthorne family will soon lose its value. Once someone more valuable than me appears, he'll divorce me immediately," Avery said calmly.

Edgar snorted. This was a unique way of comforting someone.

"He's trying to force me to marry Lyanna now," Edgar said through gritted teeth.

"Get a fake marriage certificate to fool him," Avery said calmly.

Edgar didn't want to.

Avery had no choice. "Fine, I'll speed things up."

Outside, Rhett wanted to see Avery but got a call from Beck.

His face darkened, and he quickly stood up. "Dad..."

"You cut off all cooperation with the Powell family without permission? The Powell Corporation people have already come to me," Beck's voice was threatening.

"Dad, Lily and Vincent are planning to scheme against the Murray Group. I can't let them succeed. Lyanna is about to become part of the Cunningham family. With the Cunningham Group, we can completely ignore the Powell Corporation," Rhett said nervously.

On the other end of the line, Beck snorted coldly. "You better make sure the Cunningham Group can cooperate with the Murray Group, or you'll have to step down."

Rhett clenched his fists tightly. "Yes, Dad."

After hanging up, Rhett angrily kicked the sofa.

He was already an adult, yet he was still controlled by Beck, that damn lunatic! Why wasn't he dead yet?

"Rhett," Lyanna said fearfully, trying to provoke him softly. "Dad scolded you again? You're already an adult, and Dad is still like this."

Rhett clenched his fists in anger. "Get Edgar to contact me, or you'll be sorry."

As he left, Rhett didn't forget to grab Lyanna's head and slam it against the wall. His way of venting was to hit others.

Lyanna gritted her teeth, holding her forehead. The Murray father and son were both damn lunatics!

Hearing Rhett leave, Edgar poked his head out of Avery's room. "Is he gone?"

"Yeah, he's losing it," Lyanna said, holding her head, feeling a bit dizzy.

"The Powell family has cut ties with the Murray family. Rhett can only rely on the Cunningham family now. It's time to reject him," Avery said, raising an eyebrow. "Let Rhett know what despair feels like."

Edgar made an OK gesture. "Got it."

Cunningham Mansion

Rhett couldn't find Edgar, so he went straight to the Cunningham Mansion to find Cordelia.

"Mrs. Cunningham, Lyanna and Edgar have been living together for a while now. If there's no wedding, they should at least get their marriage license, right? The Cunningham family isn't one to disregard their reputation," Rhett said calmly.

Cordelia sipped her tea. "As elders, we don't interfere with the kids' marriages. They have the freedom to choose."

Rhett snorted. "The entire business circle knows about Edgar and Lyanna's relationship. If the Cunningham family gets bad press now, it won't be good for you."

"Besides, the Cunningham family is currently under a lot of scrutiny. Only by cooperating with the Murray family can you secure your position in Silverlight City," Rhett said eagerly, wanting to show Lily and Vincent that he could find better partners.

"I don't handle company matters anymore. Mr. Murray, talking to me won't help. Why don't you go to the Cunningham Group and find Edward? He's managing the company now, or you could find Edgar. He's been working at the company recently," Cordelia said, looking like she was enjoying her retirement.

Rhett frowned, knowing Cordelia was a shrewd person. "In that case, I won't disturb you."

Rhett stood up to leave, but Edgar walked in.

"Oh, what are you doing at my house?" Edgar said with a smile.

Rhett walked over to Edgar with a stern face. "Edgar, we need to talk."

Edgar raised an eyebrow and followed Rhett outside.

"You and Lyanna should get married," Rhett went straight to the point.

"Yeah, we're already planning to get our marriage license," Edgar said with a smile.

"In that case, we're family now. The Cunningham Group should let the Murray Group join this project," Rhett said in a commanding tone.

As if becoming family meant Edgar had to obey him.

Edgar was amused by Rhett's unwarranted confidence. "Rhett, even close brothers keep clear accounts. This project is crucial for the Cunningham Group. Adding you guys for no reason would be foolish."

Rhett's face darkened with anger. "Edgar, family should support each other. Cooperating with the Murray family benefits the Cunningham Group too."

"Currently, I don't see any benefits. We won't give up this project," Edgar rejected Rhett outright.

Rhett was about to explode with anger.

If Edgar didn't cooperate...

"Don't forget, Avery and the child are still in my hands!" Rhett threatened again.

Edgar's expression darkened. "Threatening me with Avery? Try touching her, and let's see if the next thing that breaks isn't your neck."

Rhett was furious, turning and leaving in a rage. "Edgar, you'll regret this. I'll be waiting for you to beg me."

Rhett knew Avery and the child were Edgar's weaknesses, so he planned to target Avery again.

He never learned.

As Rhett left, Ethan got out of a car. "The real threat from the Murray family is Beck."

"Let them father and son deal with each other," Edgar said in a deep voice.

"Keep the Cunningham Group secure. No mistakes can be made right now. As for the Murray family, someone will take care of them," Ethan said, patting Edgar's shoulder.

Vincent was waiting to take down the Murray family.
