Chapter 154 Ethan Shocked by Justin's Resemblance to Him
At Ethan's place, Jasmine was hiding under the covers, her heart beating fast. She could almost hear the pounding of her own heart.
The closer Ethan got, the more frantic her heart became.
The light inside the covers dimmed, and Jasmine's heart raced up to her throat as she realized Ethan had turned off the lights.
"I'm dimming the sleeping lamp. Do you like sleeping with your head covered?"
Ethan's voice was so soothing that it sent Jasmine's heart racing.
Gathering her courage, Jasmine poked her head out of the blanket cocoon, wrapping it tightly around herself as she cautiously eyed Ethan.
Lying beside her, Ethan spoke in a deep tone, "Go to sleep."
The bed was perhaps too big, Jasmine and Ethan were far apart with quiet stillness between them, neither one uttering another word.
Ethan didn't touch her, allowing her to drift peacefully to sleep.
Feeling the steady breathing of the person beside him, Ethan turned to gaze at Jasmine, watching her for a long time.
He had never really imagined that one day, a woman would share his bed.
There had been women who schemed to sleep in his bed, but he only felt repulsed by them.
Now, however, he was filled with anticipation, looking forward to the expression in her eyes when she woke up and saw him in the morning.
"Are you asleep?" Ethan whispered.
Jasmine didn't move, clearly deep in slumber.
"She's so defenseless." Ethan chuckled helplessly, gently pushing aside a few strands of Jasmine's hair.
Jasmine was stunningly beautiful, the kind of person one would remember in a crowd at just one glance.
She had a tall nose, profound yet cold eyes.
Ethan still remembered Jasmine dancing the Swan Lake on stage.
Perhaps from that brief encounter, he had unconsciously kept her in his heart.
After that, he met many women, but none left him as awe-struck.
...
The next morning, Jasmine awoke to find herself curled up in Ethan's arms.
Frozen, she trembled slightly.
She glanced back at her pillow.
On the massive bed, they occupied less than a third of it, and Ethan was almost at the edge of the bed.
Clutching her hands with a sense of guilt, Jasmine realized she had a habit of moving toward someone else while asleep.
"You awake?" Ethan, now awake and seeing Jasmine huddled in his arms motionless, smiled and asked.
Indeed, waking up in the morning to the sight of someone one long to see could make one feel incredible.
This was a sweetness that the Ethan of the past had never experienced.
"M-Mr. Ethan, I'm sorry," Jasmine stammered, suddenly getting up, dressing, and hurrying to make breakfast.
Ethan rose too and entered the bathroom, noticing Jasmine had already squeezed out toothpaste for him.
With a soft smile, Ethan casually ran his fingers through his hair.
So, this was what home feels like.
In the past, wherever he stayed was just a place to live for Ethan.
But now, there seemed to be a spark of life in the air.
"Justin, did you brush your teeth properly?" Jasmine was preparing breakfast, her attention split as she kept tabs on Justin.
Justin was too short to reach the sink in the room.
Ethan came down in his casual wear, his morning hair tousled, a warm hint on his face set off by the beige loungewear.
Unlike the aloofness he exuded in his business attire, Ethan seemed more approachable like this.
"Daddy, I can't reach." Justin tilted his head, looking to Ethan for help.
Ethan's steps faltered, and his chest tightened.
That word "Daddy" was heart-melting.
Lifting the little one in one arm, Ethan grabbed a new toothbrush for him, applying toothpaste. "I'll take you to buy a kids' toothbrush after school."
Cradled by Ethan, Justin brushed his teeth earnestly, his voice soft and tentative. "Daddy, are you going to pick me up after school?"
"Yeah." Ethan nodded.
Justin beamed; his eyes sparkling.
"Daddy, will you always like me?" After brushing his teeth, Justin asked cautiously.
He was actually scared. He was scared that one day Ethan might not want him anymore.
"I will." Ethan assured him with another nod.
"Can I always call you Daddy?" Justin inquired further.
Ethan ruffled Justin's hair affectionately. "Yeah."
"What if you have other kids in the future, will you still like me?" Justin understood more than he let on.
Ethan paused. 'Other kids? Is Justin afraid that I may have my own children one day?'
Ethan looked up in the mirror, shocked for a moment.
Justin cleaning his toothbrush meticulously looked so much like him.
With another tightness in his chest, Ethan subconsciously pinched Justin's chin, directing his gaze to the mirror for a careful comparison.
"Justin?"
Outside, Jasmine called for Justin to come to eat, pausing for a long moment when she saw the two of them at the bathroom door.
She almost thought it was her imagination—the way Justin fit into Ethan's embrace. They looked so much alike.
Justin's hair was loosely scattered, just like Ethan's, their facial expressions remarkably similar; at first glance, they looked like a resized version of each other.
Ethan snapped back to the present and looked over at Jasmine, putting Justin down. "I'll have the butler renovate the nursery."
"No... there's no need. My brother went on a business trip with his boss today; he'll... be back tomorrow," Jasmine said nervously, clutching Justin without looking up.
"There's a kids' room, Justin can stay wherever he wants, it's more convenient, and I'm sure he'd like to spend more time with Mom, right?" Ethan said casually.
Justin nodded vigorously. "Mom, Uncle has Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays off, can I stay here on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays?"
Jasmine was a bit nervous as it seemed like dates were being set. "But..."
"Where will Justin stay on Sunday?" Ethan squatted in front of Justin, smiling as he asked.
"I'm going to stay at Ms. Erin's on Sunday," Justin said earnestly.
"Hm?" Ethan raised an eyebrow. 'How did Erin manage to charm both Richard and the kid?'
"I'm a man, I have to be responsible for Ms. Erin. I kissed her, so I need to visit her every week," Justin said seriously.
Ethan couldn't help but laugh; only Erin could come up with such a line.
"Justin..." Jasmine's face flushed with a mix of embarrassment and laughter. "You've got it all mixed up; she's Aunt Maggie, Uncle's girlfriend."
Justin blinked. "But she told me to call her 'sister' because 'aunt' makes her sound too old."
Jasmine chuckled; it did sound like something Erin would say.
Ethan stood up and took Justin to eat, but then something occurred to him, and he spoke in a low voice, "It would be better to keep Richard away from Erin."
It was not that Erin was a bad person, but some things were beyond what Richard could handle.
The dangers surrounding Erin were far beyond the comprehension of Jasmine and Richard.
Jasmine looked at Ethan anxiously. "Erin... She has such a great personality."
She really liked Erin's character.
"It's not about her being bad or anything..." Ethan hesitated, unsure how to explain without frightening Jasmine.
"Simply put, Richard and Erin are not from the same world, it's best they don't become emotionally involved," Ethan said earnestly to Jasmine.
Jasmine paused, looked down, and said nothing.
Perhaps, Ethan thought Richard and her, with their statuses, weren't from the same world as Erin and himself.
Ethan was making a point; when people from different worlds were forced together, it often led to misery.
