Chapter 448 Evan's Accident was Karen's Scheme

Alex sighed and answered the phone.

On the other end, Karen said with a tearful voice, "Alex, Evan had a car accident. Come to the hospital quickly; I don't know what to do."

Alex's body stiffened, and he instinctively looked up at Evelina.

Evelina frowned because she was uncertain whether Evan's accident was real or if it was a ploy to bind Alex.

After hanging up on Karen, Alex appeared somewhat uneasy and troubled.

Evelina looked at Alex and let out a sarcastic laugh. "If you're so worried about your son, then go quickly."

Karen had no other cards to play to deceive Alex; Evan was always the best excuse.

"Evelina, I'll call Evan to check on the situation." Alex was both anxious and worried, but at this moment, he was more afraid of Evelina wanting a divorce.

The children would have their own lives. When Alex calmed down and thought clearly, he knew that the one who could accompany him through life was Evelina, his beloved.

Cordelia said he wasn't as hopeless as Willian, and he wanted to save himself.

Evelina said nothing, just looked at Alex.

Alex called Evan in front of Evelina, but Evan didn't answer. Karen picked up the phone instead.

"Alex, hurry to the hospital. Evan is still in emergency care. I'm scared," Karen cried as she urged Alex to come over.

Evelina's gaze deepened as she looked at Alex.

What she couldn't stand was the feeling of being eternally entangled with Karen because they had a child.

Alex looked at Evelina and finally spoke after a long while. "Evelina, will you come with me?"

Though his words were infuriating, he wanted to face it with Evelina.

"Are you dreaming?" Evelina ignored Alex and turned to leave.

Alex hesitated for a while before driving away.

In the living room, Cordelia walked up to Evelina and spoke softly. "Maybe he doesn't have any feelings for Karen anymore."

Evelina remained silent.

From the beginning, she knew Karen wasn't much of a threat, but Evan was.

They had never had children. No matter how indifferent Alex appeared on the surface, it was impossible for him to be unaffected by Evan.

"Blood ties are like that. Evan was born before you and Alex met. If you accept Evan, you can still continue your life together with Alex," Cordelia sighed. She didn't want Evelina to hand Alex over so easily.

But Cordelia understood Evelina's temperament well; she couldn't stand being wronged.

If Alex always had to choose between her and Evan, and if Karen kept using Evan to manipulate and drain Alex's energy, Evelina couldn't bear it.

So the key issue was Evan.

"Evelina, let's go and visit Evan," Cordelia said as she took Evelina's hands.

Karen's scheme to frame Jasmine for extortion couldn't be let go so easily.

As for Evan, Cordelia had asked Jasmine about her attitude towards him. If Jasmine needed the Cunningham family to take action, Evan would face charges at any time.

Jasmine had suffered permanent hearing loss in one ear, which was what Cordelia hated the most.

But when mentioning Evan, Jasmine had shaken her head.

Perhaps in Jasmine's view, there was no longer any relationship between her and Evan.

Evelina glanced at Cordelia, showed no objection, and got into the car.

Halfway through the drive, the driver discovered the brakes had failed.

"Someone in the household must have been bribed. The brakes have been tampered with," the driver said calmly.

Evelina and Cordelia exchanged a glance, then quickly fastened their seatbelts, and curled up to protect themselves.

The driver eased off the gas pedal at first, letting the car scrape against the roadside barriers, gradually slowing it down until it finally collided with the wall ahead.

Fortunately, the speed had already decreased so the impact wasn't severe.

Cordelia let out a sigh of relief but remained a darken face. "Investigate thoroughly."

If it weren't for her experienced driver, it could have been a serious car accident.

Anyone who could tamper with the car's brakes had to be either someone close to them or someone from the service center.

"Ms. Richardson, the car had serviced yesterday. I drove it back, and there were no issues at that time," the driver immediately ruled out the service center.

It was clear that it had to be someone close to them.

Cordelia couldn't believe that the traitor was so close to them.

"Evelina?" Cordelia finally noticed Evelina was injured. The  shattered glass had cut Evelina's leg.

Evelina cherished her beauty, especially her long and straight legs.

The glass had pierced deeply into her leg. Even if it wasn't dangerous, it would surely leave a scar.

"Hospital!" Cordelia hurriedly got out of the car and ran to Evelina's side.

Evelina smiled wryly, her smile strained. "It doesn't matter."

Cordelia held her phone, instinctively thought of calling Alex first.

Faced with the same car accident, would Alex choose Evelina or Evan?

"Call Alex," Evelina suggested this time.

The car had been tampered with, clearly an act of malicious revenge. Karen had been too active and too arrogant lately.

Cordelia nodded and called Alex.

Karen wanted to use Evan to lure Alex away. But they wouldn't let her succeed.

"Alex! Evelina and I had a car accident on the way to the hospital, on New Peace Avenue. Come quickly, Evelina is hurt."

Cordelia hung up right after speaking.

Alex was stunned, not understanding what Cordelia meant.

Luckily, the bodyguards and car hadn't arrived yet. Alex made a sharp turn and stopped by the roadside. "Evelina!"

Evelina was sitting in the car with her legs stretched out and the dark red blood on her legs had dried.

Alex gasped and immediately carried Evelina, rushing to the hospital.

Cordelia got into Alex's car as well, accompanying them to the hospital.

Evelina remained silent the entire way.

At the hospital, Alex carried Evelina to get her wound treated. Karen kept calling Alex, but he had no mind for anyone else now.

"Doctor, please treat the wound properly to avoid scarring," Alex repeatedly urged.

He knew Evelina feared scarring.

Evelina stayed silent throughout, only speaking when Alex's phone rang again. "Give me the phone."

Alex handed the phone to Evelina quickly.

Evelina checked his phone and directly blocked Karen.

Alex opened his mouth to speak but was silenced by a glare from Cordelia. He didn't dare say anything; now, Evelina could do whatever she wanted.

"Let's go. Push me in a wheelchair to visit your son." Evelina wanted to see Evan.

Even if she didn't want to, she couldn't avoid it. Even if they divorced, there would be property disputes.

Alex hesitated, then said softly, "Evelina, you should rest."

"Do I look like a predator? Will I eat your son alive?" Evelina had no kind words for Alex.

Alex quickly shut his mouth.

Evan's leg had broken. He lay on the bed and glared angrily at Karen. "Did you arrange it? Are you crazy? Do you want me dead?" Evan felt Karen had lost her mind.

She wanted to use his injury to lure Alex over.

"I did it for your own good. If you get hurt, your dad will care about you," Karen coaxed.
