Chapter 509 Evan Regrets and Hates Himself

Evelina left the ward, leaving Evan and Elbert in an awkward silence.

Elbert smirked. "Does slitting your wrist hurt?"

Evan stayed quiet, gripping his hands tightly. Blood backed up in his IV, but he didn't notice.

"This pain is nothing compared to what Jasmine went through," Elbert taunted. "You have no idea. Before prison, she was bullied at school—beaten, stripped, photographed, insulted."

Elbert pulled out his phone, showing a video of Jasmine being tormented in prison. "They made her drink toilet water, spat in her food, cut her hair."

"Shut up." Evan trembled, pale as a ghost. "Please, shut up."

But Elbert continued. "When Jasmine was found not to be the Wilson family's daughter, you drugged her to break off her engagement with Daniel and sent her to someone else's bed?"

"No." Evan's fingers were cold and pale. "It wasn't like that."

"Serena said she just made Jasmine drink more wine and would call reporters soon," Evan tried to explain, hating himself more with each word.

"Where were you?" Elbert pressed.

"I was in the smoking area. I wanted to save her, but I got scared," Evan admitted, gripping the blanket tightly.

"You deserve to die," Elbert said coldly.

Evan stayed silent, head lowered. He knew he deserved it.

"Evan, you can never make up for what you've done to Jasmine," Elbert said. "Look at your mistakes. Don't you dare die before making amends." He handed over records of Jasmine's suffering.

Take your time, I have all the time in the world, I can wait." Elbert sat aside, waiting for Evan to finish reading.

He watched as Evan's skin turned from pale to ashen, as if he were about to die at any moment.

Elbert was afraid that Evan would commit suicide, so he kept giving him mental suggestions, telling him not to die before making amends.

At LY Company, Jasmine overheard gossip in the restroom.

"What's Jasmine's deal? All designer brands?"

"Don't you know? Someone's keeping her."

"I heard she's dating an old man with money."

Jasmine was shocked. Old man? Ethan?

"Are you talking about me?" Jasmine confronted them.

In the past, she would've stayed silent, but now she had the courage to speak up. "What old man? That's my husband."

The two colleagues were shocked. "Jasmine, you heard everything?"

"Yes, I heard you say I'm being kept by an old man," Jasmine nodded. "Sorry, but the person you're talking about is actually my husband."

They were even more shocked. Jasmine was married to an old man?

"My husband doesn't like being called old," Jasmine said seriously.

The two colleagues swallowed nervously.

"Jasmine, you're actually married?"

Jasmine nodded and showed them her wedding ring. "Yep, I'm married."

They exchanged awkward glances and quickly left the restroom.

Jasmine thought confronting them would stop the rumors, but they only got worse.

In the President's Office, Ethan was in a meeting when his secretary's phone kept buzzing.

The secretary, terrified, checked her phone. It was the company employee group chat.

"Mr. Douglas, sorry, I'll mute the notifications," she said frantically.

"What are they talking about?" Ethan asked casually. He'd been monitoring the group for news about his wife and to keep an eye on Samuel.

"They're saying Jasmine married an old man, and she said it herself."

Ethan's face darkened. Old man? Did Jasmine say that?

Slamming the table, Ethan got up and walked out.

He needed to show Jasmine his charm.

"Mr. Douglas?" the secretary called out.

"Get back to work," Ethan said, heading to the project team alone.

At the Project Team, Jasmine was organizing materials to help Ethan secure the Everhart family project. The Douglas Group was still the biggest competitor.

Annabelle had been hospitalized due to poisoning and should be discharged by now. For this quarter's project, the Douglas Group would work hard. If LY lost, the Everhart family would take over, and Ethan would be ousted. LY would no longer be a threat to the Douglas Group.

"Jasmine, can you print these?" A colleague handed her some documents.

Jasmine had just sat down after reconciling accounts but went to print anyway, unable to refuse.

When she returned, Deborah was already losing her temper. "What's going on? Your team's efficiency is too low. I just want a report. Is it that hard?"

Though Deborah was scolding everyone, Jasmine knew she was the target.

"I," Jasmine tried to explain but was cut off.

"I don't want explanations. I want results! This is taking way too long," Deborah snapped.

Jasmine frowned and lowered her head, not speaking.

Ethan arrived just in time to see this.

Deborah knew Ethan's work ethic and timed her scolding perfectly, thinking he'd side with her.

Ethan walked over and saw Jasmine with her head down. "What's going on?"

"Ethan, why are you here?" Deborah restrained her emotions. "It's nothing. I just wanted the previous project's report. It's almost the end of the day, and I still haven't received it."

Ethan frowned, clearly angry.

Jasmine nervously lowered her head, not daring to look at Ethan. Would he scold her?
