Chapter 70 Jasmine Asked Henry to Call off the Engagement with the Brown Family
Henry's eyes darkened for a moment as he frowned at Zelda.
Why had she come to Boston so early?
"Henry, please help me," Zelda sobbed, pleading for Henry's help.
With just a glance at Jasmine, Henry understood that Zelda had come to cause trouble for her.
Instinctively, he walked quickly to stand in front of Jasmine and asked in a low voice, "Did she hurt you?"
Jasmine kept her head down, refusing to look up.
Henry's expression darkened instantly as he turned to Zelda. "Is this how the Brown family raises their daughters?"
Zelda looked at Henry in shock; she couldn’t believe it. "Henry! I'm your fiancée. Why are you looking at me like that? She seduced you first. Why can't I hit her?"
Jasmine remained silent throughout.
"Reflect on your actions, or no one will be able to help you," Henry warned Zelda with a cold gaze, intending to settle the matter with her later.
"Henry! Jasmine, tell the police we were just joking! Jasmine! If I got to jail, just wait for me to come out! You’ll regret it!" Zelda, embarrassed and furious, continued to threaten Jasmine.
With a dark expression, Henry let the police take Zelda away and then held Jasmine's hand, planning to take her to the hospital.
However, Jasmine instinctively pulled away from Henry's grasp, her eyes slightly red as she looked at him.
Henry did not deny his relationship with Zelda, which meant he acknowledged his engagement to the Brown family. Therefore, Zelda would eventually be his wife in name.
If she continued to stay with Henry, all the grievances she suffered today would be her own fault.
Henry paused for a moment, then looked back at Jasmine.
Jasmine remained silent.
"Mr. Patrick, take a look at Miss Zelda’s twitter," Ben's voice trembled with anger. Five years ago, they had bullied Jasmine so brutally.
Jasmine was the victim. How dare Zelda post the video!
Henry clenched his phone and crushed the screen in his hand.
Idiot!
How stupid could Zelda be?!
If it weren't for the fact that the Brown family was still useful, he would have...
"Did you call the police, Mr. Douglas?" Henry tossed the phone to Ben, giving Ethan a glance.
Ethan remained silent, standing aside and watching Jasmine. "Think carefully, come with me or leave with him."
Jasmine had really done it now.
Zelda would only spend a few months inside at most, and when she came out, she would not let Jasmine off the hook.
Moreover, by putting Zelda in prison, the Brown family's people would also come after her.
Now that she had decided to fight back, Jasmine had to choose between Henry and Ethan; she had to choose whose side she would stand by.
Otherwise, she would find it hard to survive.
"Mr. Douglas, I will take care of my people myself," Henry frowned.
Ethan said nothing. All he did was watch Jasmine, waiting for her to make a decision.
"I'll take you to the hospital," Henry said to Jasmine as they left.
Jasmine remained silent for a long time before choosing to follow behind Henry.
Ethan frowned, and his face darkened.
"Jasmine is not foolish," Liam breathed a sigh of relief, afraid that Jasmine would choose Mr. Douglas.
If Jasmine had really chosen to go with Ethan, it would have caused him a lot of trouble.
"She knows it's safer to stay in Boston than to return to Silverlight City," Liam said smugly, considering her clever.
Ethan's expression was grim, and he gave Liam a cold look. "I think you'd be better off staying in Boston. Why don't you become Henry's assistant?"
Liam shuddered and quickly caught up with Ethan. "Mr. Douglas, you are the only man for me!"
After they got into the car, Ethan ignored Liam and told him to drive off.
For some reason, he was actually feeling a bit angry, angry that Jasmine had chosen Henry over him.
Was it just because Henry was Justin's biological father?
As his fingers lightly tapped the armrest, Ethan's mind filled with images of Jasmine's pale, bloodless face.
She said she was deaf in her left ear.
She said she had attempted suicide many times.
Taking a deep breath, Ethan looked at Liam. "Find out what Jasmine went through during those five years in prison."
"Mr. Douglas, do we really need to do that? Is it necessary?" Liam seemed clueless.
Feeling Ethan's murderous gaze, Liam silently bowed his head and drove on. "Yes, Mr. Douglas."
Ethan rubbed his forehead, realizing he really needed to consider finding a new assistant.
…
On the way to the hospital, Jasmine sat in Henry's car, silent.
"Does it hurt?" Henry held an ice pack and personally helped Jasmine apply it to her cheek.
Jasmine tried to evade him, but Henry deliberately trapped her in his arms, gently wiping the blood from the corner of her mouth. "If Zelda ever lays a hand on you again, I will make sure she pays a price."
Henry comforted Jasmine.
There was no emotion in Jasmine's eyes; she just remained silent.
Henry pinched Jasmine's pale and delicate face, looking at her for a long time. "Jasmine, I've said it before; you can make demands of me. How do you want me to handle this?"
Jasmine remained silent for a long time, her voice hoarse. "I won't let her get off easily; I demand a medical examination."
Henry took a deep breath. Only then did he realize that Jasmine was serious.
She wasn't planning to let Zelda off easily.
"Alright." Henry agreed.
Jasmine weakly spoke again. "She is your fiancée."
Henry did not deny it.
"If rumors of her bullying and assaulting me spread, it will have a very negative impact on the SHC Group and your family, especially once people learn that it led to a criminal case." Jasmine stated her concerns upfront.
"Are you worried about me?" Henry smiled, feeling inexplicably good.
Jasmine did not deny it and spoke again. "If I were you, I would take advantage of public opinion and break off the engagement with Zelda."
Jasmine's voice was hoarse and resolute.
If Henry agreed to break off the engagement now, it would be a fatal blow to the Brown family and Zelda.
Jasmine was seeking revenge.
Henry could see that Jasmine was using him to get back at Zelda.
Taking a deep breath, Henry looked at Jasmine with a burning gaze. "Jasmine, I can give you everything."
Tears welled up in Jasmine's eyes, and her clenched hands slowly relaxed.
She smiled ironically and weakly.
"But the alliance between our families is not as simple as you think." Clearly, Henry did not agree to break off the engagement.
Jasmine lowered her eyes and smiled.
This was the last chance she would give Henry.
The final chance.
"If you break off the engagement and cut ties with the Brown family, I can always be with you." Jasmine said this, even she found it ridiculous.
Henry would probably get tired of her, the dirty woman, in a few days.
But, apart from this, she had no other bargaining chips.
"Jasmine, you can't ask me to marry you." Henry leaned weakly against the seat, his voice low.
Besides marriage, he really could give Jasmine anything.
"I promise you, I won't let Zelda and the Brown family off easily this time. I won't intervene to help her no matter how the authorities handle it. She deserves to face the consequences of her actions, but the Patrick family and the Brown family can't fall out for now. Give me two years, I promise to give you a satisfactory answer, okay?"
Henry reached out, wanting to hold Jasmine's hand.
Jasmine recoiled as if shocked and started looking weakly out the window.
