Chapter 473 Get Rid of Annabelle First

Evelina let out a sigh of relief and turned to Richard. "Richard, what are you doing here?"

"Jasmine knew Karen was ruthless. She got burned by her once and was worried you might too, so she asked me to protect you. When I saw someone tailing your car, I knew something was up and brought the guys over. Luckily, nothing happened."

Richard also sighed in relief and quickly helped Evelina into the car. "What about Mr. Everhart?"

Evelina smirked. "She probably didn't expect me to call the cops before even leaving the house."

At the Bellagio Hotel.

Alex frowned at Karen. "Did you drug me?"

Karen looked all innocent. "Alex, what are you talking about?"

Alex, fighting off dizziness, reached for his phone, but Karen snatched it away. "Alex, who do you want to call? I'll help you."

"I want to call the police." Alex wanted to see how long Karen could keep up the act.

Karen played innocent, avoiding a confrontation with Alex.

"Alex, you still don't trust me," Karen said, trying to buy time.

Alex couldn't hold on any longer. Just before he passed out, the police burst in.

"We got a report of prostitution. Show us your IDs." The police looked at Alex and moved to handcuff him.

Alex, not fully unconscious, was furious at Evelina's actions.

Clearly, Evelina had sent them to rescue him.

It was an infuriatingly unique way of rescuing people.

"What do you mean?" Karen said to the police officers angrily.

The police searched the room and found a bottle of red wine on the table—the same bottle Karen had sent, which contained a sedative.

One of the officers said, "This smells off. Take it for testing."

They called for an ambulance because Alex was already in a coma.

Karen's expression changed momentarily but quickly returned to calm. "If this is a false alarm, you better take full responsibility."

Karen handed over her ID with a cold snort.

She hadn't expected Evelina to be so clever.

As the police escorted Karen downstairs, they saw Evelina limping out of the car.

Evelina asked Richard to help the medical staff lift Alex into the ambulance, her face serious.

Karen stood still, and their eyes met.

Evelina said nothing and got into the ambulance.

She needed to make sure Alex was okay first.

Besides, with the police around, she couldn't do anything to Karen.

But next time, Karen wouldn't be so lucky.

Evelina hadn't planned to deal with Karen, but Karen's assistant and lawyer arrived, explained the situation to the police, and provided relevant evidence, leading to Karen's release.

"You're letting her go, aren't you?" Evelina asked. "My husband is still unconscious. Aren't you going to check if there's something wrong with the wine?"

One of the officers replied, "We reviewed the surveillance footage. Ms. Karen entered the room to help, and the wine was delivered before she arrived. The lawyer also mentioned that the hotel staff had confessed. We're taking them in now."

Evelina was surprised by Karen's flawless setup.

She scrutinized Karen and smiled. "I didn't expect you to be such a master of deception."

When the incident of the real and fake daughters was exposed, she felt some pity for Karen. However, she hadn't expected her to be a master of disguise all along.

Cordelia was right; Karen was harder to deal with than Sophia.

Karen, with teary eyes, said, "You've misunderstood me. I came because Alex drank too much, and Evan is sick, refusing to eat. I wanted Alex to come and see him."

Karen put on her best pitiful act.

Evelina sneered. "Keep pretending."

"When Alex wakes up, he'll believe me." Karen cried and tried to get into the ambulance. "Let me stay with him."

"You have no right," Evelina stopped her.

Karen pleaded, "Evelina, please, I know you're going to divorce Alex. No one can take care of him. Let me do it, okay? He was my first love, and I'll take care of him if you won't."

Evelina knew Karen was trying to provoke her.

"You have no shame. As far as I know, you haven't even divorced Benjamin yet. Once you get that sorted, then talk to me. For now, you have no right." Evelina pushed her away and had Richard close the car door.

"Sorry, don't block the ambulance." Richard and the bodyguards held Karen back, then got into the car and followed the ambulance.

Karen clenched her fists in frustration. Evelina had completely ruined her flawless plan for the night.

At the Cunningham family's residence.

Cordelia's eyelid twitched anxiously, constantly worrying about Evelina.

"Godmother is fine; Richard arrived in time," Jasmine said excitedly as she ran into the living room after receiving Richard's call. "But she got hurt jumping out of the car. We need to get to the hospital quickly; Alex is in trouble, too."

Ethan frowned, grabbed Jasmine's wrist, and led her outside.

Karen had gone mad.

"The police caught those people, but they only admitted to reckless driving, not to kidnapping or harming anyone," Jasmine said, looking at Ethan and taking a deep breath. "From what I know of Karen, she wouldn't hire a hitman. It's not that she's not ruthless enough; she's just smart enough."

Ethan glanced at Edward. "Did Richard send you the photos?"

Edward, holding a laptop, searched as he got into the car. "This man has a scorpion tattoo on his left hand, part of an international mercenary group."

"Sophia's men." Ethan sneered.

Sophia had hired mercenaries for her schemes.

"It seems they have already joined forces," Cordelia said in a low voice.

"It's a warning and a wake-up call. We need to be more vigilant," Edward said gravely. "Sophia's confidence comes from having these desperados at her disposal."

Karen's cunning lay in using others to do her dirty work, leveraging Sophia's resources.

And they had to guard against Annabelle and Claire.

"Annabelle and Karen have always been in cahoots. It has Annabelle's fingerprints all over it, too," Jasmine said, holding Ethan's hand. "They've allied, so we need to take them down one by one."

"The Douglas family is still obsessively targeting Ethan. They've got nothing better to do," Jasmine said. She needed to give the Douglas family some trouble.

"Annabelle is the weakest link among them. We'll start with her," Ethan said with a smile, understanding Jasmine's intentions and soothing her gently. "Do whatever you need to do."

Jasmine nodded. "Annabelle has been staying with the Douglas family because she's pregnant, but Daniel is adamant that the child isn't his. There's definitely something fishy going on."

She needed to get rid of Annabelle first.

If Annabelle's child wasn't Daniel's, then whose was it?

Judging by Howard's attitude, he had no intention of letting Daniel and Annabelle divorce.

Howard, who cared so much about the Douglas family's reputation, was acting strangely by keeping a fake daughter, especially one from the Harper family.

His actions were truly baffling.
