Chapter 96 Ethan was too Gentle with Jasmine
Jasmine nodded and served soup to Ethan.
Ethan was puzzled for a while. He had already eaten dinner, yet he found himself wanting to eat more involuntarily.
Jasmine ate carefully, and as soon as Ethan put down his utensils, she did the same and got up to clean up.
Ethan took the initiative to put the dishes in the dishwasher, something he wouldn't normally do.
"We are partners. You're not a maid," Ethan told Jasmine not to bother with these trivial tasks.
Jasmine crouched by the dishwasher, feeling awkward for a long time.
Jasmine’s fingertips were cold, and she looked down at the floor with a sense of loss.
Five years in prison had disconnected her from society; she didn't know how to use these modern automated products.
Seeing Jasmine crouching motionless, Ethan also crouched beside her and softly said, "I don't know how to use this dishwasher either. Let the housekeeper handle it tomorrow."
Jasmine looked up at Ethan, her heart beating a bit faster than normal.
He said he didn't know how to use it.
Although Jasmine knew Ethan didn't use these things because he never had to, it still brought her some comfort.
"Then I'll learn from the housekeeper tomorrow." Jasmine smiled at Ethan.
Ethan also smiled lightly. "Sure, once you've learned, teach me."
Jasmine's ears turned slightly red as she lowered her head and clasped her fingers.
Strange emotions were welling up inside her.
"The master bedroom on the first floor is here. It’s sunny and spacious and has a walk-in closet that you should like." Ethan knew Jasmine probably hadn't chosen a room, so he took the initiative to recommend it.
Jasmine nodded and entered the room, hiding behind the door as she said, "Mr. Douglas, goodnight."
Ethan wanted to say something more, but Jasmine's goodnight stopped him. She was truly afraid of interacting with people.
Nodding, Ethan turned and went upstairs.
Even though a stranger was now suddenly living in his house and saying goodnight to him, he, surprisingly, he didn't have any objections.
Smiling, Ethan entered the study room.
With Jasmine living here, the house suddenly didn't feel as empty.
...
Jasmine’s room.
Jasmine walked around the room nervously and then hid in the bathroom.
After adjusting for a while, she carefully filled the bathtub with water.
It had been a long time since she had felt so relaxed.
She felt a natural sense of security whenever she was with Ethan.
Ding.
Her phone vibrated.
Jasmine leaned over the bathtub, opened her phone, and saw a message from Ethan, reminding her not to get her wound wet.
Her cheeks flushed again.
Setting the phone aside, Jasmine curled up her legs and sat in the bathtub, holding up her injured hand and staring at it for a long time.
It felt like she was dreaming.
Being with Ethan, even if it was mutually beneficial, was an incredibly lucky break for her.
While leaning on the edge of the bathtub, Jasmine slowly closed her eyes.
She was so tired.
Finally, she could sleep soundly.
...
Bellagio Hotel.
After the police questioning was over, Henry returned to the hotel, looking very displeased.
Did the Douglas family really think he was the one who called the police? Ethan was truly cunning.
"Has Jasmine been discharged?" Henry asked.
Ben tightened his grip on the steering wheel. "Today at the hospital, I ran into Ethan's assistant, Liam. He said Jasmine was in the doctor's office, so I went there, but the doctor said Jasmine had been discharged. When I went to the inpatient department, Jasmine was already gone."
Henry's face darkened. "Go to Richard's place."
He was worried about Jasmine.
"Mr. Patrick, have you ever considered that if you and Zelda don't call off the engagement, Miss Wilson will never feel secure with you." Ben plucked up the courage to speak.
If Zelda came out, she would definitely not let Jasmine go. If Henry didn't break off the engagement with Zelda, Jasmine could not be with him.
"I’ll just hide her away." Henry rubbed his forehead. "Grandfather promised the Brown family that I would marry one of their daughters. I can’t just break that promise; I can only find a way to delay it, or divorce her after three years."
"Mr. Patrick, this is not fair to Jasmine and Justin." Ben was a bit anxious while waiting at the traffic lights.
"Fair? What is fairness? Marriage is just a transaction; it doesn't affect my feelings for her. Besides the title of Mrs. Patrick, I can give her everything." In Henry's view, even if Zelda became his wife, she was just a decoration.
She wouldn’t get his love.
Apart from the title, he could give Jasmine everything.
Ben opened his mouth but didn't say anything. He just drove straight towards Richard's residence.
But Richard's auto repair shop was already closed, and everything inside was cleaned up.
"Hello, where are the people living here?" Ben got out of the car and asked a neighbor.
"Richard? He moved out. That landlord is despicable; he bullied his sister. Richard beat him up, and then he moved out." The neighbor, a grandfather, liked Richard and Justin a lot and spoke with some indignation.
Henry frowned and rolled down the car window. "Find out where they moved."
Ben nodded and got back in the car. "Mr. Patrick, you should go back to the hotel and rest. I'll keep checking."
"Deal with that landlord," Henry leaned back in his seat.
"Alright, Mr. Patrick."
As Ben drove out of the alley, he suddenly remembered something important. "By the way, Mr. Patrick, Boston Paternity Testing Center called, saying Mr. Patrick Sr.'s people went to check."
Henry frowned and immediately sat up straight. "How was it handled?"
"They did it as you requested." Ben quickly replied.
Henry nodded. "Have them keep a close eye on everything. Don't let anything go wrong."
Ben nodded.
Mr. Patrick Sr.'s people went to inquire about the relationship between Justin and Henry, and the testing center confirmed that Henry was Justin’s father.
This way, for the sake of Justin, Mr. Patrick Sr. wouldn't touch Jasmine, nor would the Brown family.
Jasmine would be temporarily safe.
So, this matter had to be kept hidden for as long as possible.
Once Mr. Patrick Sr. knew Justin wasn't his son, with Mr. Patrick Sr.'s temperament, Jasmine would be in great danger.
Rubbing his forehead in frustration, Henry spoke again. "Daniel and Carmen's scandal is still ongoing. Ethan is quite ruthless."
"Daniel and Carmen have never been content. As a mistress and an illegitimate child trying to rise in the Douglas family, they want too much. Their abilities and ambitions don't match. They may not be a match for Ethan." Ben nodded.
Henry looked out the window with a meaningful expression. "In the business world, I would prefer my partner to be a fool, not a strong opponent like Ethan."
Tapping his fingers lightly on the armrest, Henry spoke again. "With Howard's skills, Daniel will be out in a maximum of three months, and this matter will soon settle down."
"Mr. Patrick, do you mean... You want to support Daniel?" Ben looked nervously at Henry.
If Jasmine found out, she would surely be very hurt, considering how much Daniel had hurt her.
"Not support but control." Henry preferred to have Daniel under his thumb rather than Ethan, who could become his biggest competitor at any time.
Moreover, what Henry was most worried about was Ethan competing with him for Jasmine.
If it weren't for Ethan, he would be the only one Jasmine could rely on.
He absolutely couldn't allow Ethan to snatch Jasmine away from him.
He had finally ground Jasmine down, no one else could have her but him.
