Chapter 600: Aleah Incites Richard to Fight for Marital Property

Jasmine shot Ben a surprised look and reached out. "Ben, what the heck are you doing here as my assistant? Where's Henry?"

"He took off to Muskow, so I had to snag another gig," Ben said with a grin.

The truth was that Henry was worried Jasmine couldn't handle Ian and sent Ben to back her up.

Ethan and Henry had already hashed out a deal.

"Welcome aboard." Jasmine beamed at Ben.

Ben froze for a sec and glanced at Ethan.

Man, it was awesome; he finally saw that smile and glow on Jasmine's face that had been MIA for six years.

Ethan had clearly been looking out for her big time.

"Ben's a top-notch assistant, and I feel good knowing he's got your back," Ethan said, messing up Jasmine's hair playfully.

Jasmine looked genuinely stoked. During her roughest patches, not many showed her kindness, but Ben was definitely one of the good ones.

Ethan gave Ben a nod.

Ben was someone Ethan had snagged from Henry. Given all the crap Henry had put Jasmine through, taking someone from his team seemed fair game, right?

Ben, Henry's go-to guy, was not only super capable but also had special ops training. Way better than Tom, who was more of a brute force kind of guy. Ben's alertness and quick reactions were on par with Richard's.

At the upcoming charity shindig, Ethan planned to drop the bomb that he was the big boss of the Raymond Group.

Expecting some serious reactions from Howard and Claire, Ethan had to make sure Jasmine was safe and have all his ducks in a row.

Henry, worried Jasmine couldn't handle Ian solo, had sent Ben to lend a hand.

To win the game, they needed to know both themselves and their enemies.

At Capital Hospital, Richard, looking all icy, took Betty for a prenatal checkup.

To the outside world, Richard was saying he was taking Betty for an abortion.

Richard had told Sophia and Aleah that he was gonna divorce Betty and make her terminate the pregnancy.

Given Betty's personality, if they split, she definitely wouldn't keep the kid, so Aleah bought it.

But Sophia was a sly one and still had Aleah tag along to the hospital.

"Richard." While waiting for the results, Aleah showed up, rocking a light-colored dress that made her look like the girl next door.

She probably used to dress like this a lot, so today she did it on purpose to see Richard and stake her claim in front of Betty.

"Richard, why didn't you tell me you were coming to the hospital?" Aleah walked over and, as if on cue, stumbled into Richard's arms.

Richard stiffened up. His act was already shaky, and he glanced at Betty nervously, feeling like he was about to get busted.

Betty sat on the bench with a cold look. Her act was way better than Richard's. "If you two wanna flaunt your lovey-dovey act, do it somewhere else."

Aleah immediately dropped her suspicions and clung to Richard's arm. "Richard, why's she so nasty?"

"Ignore her," Richard said, all jittery.

"Is she really gonna abort the baby?" Aleah asked softly, also scared Betty might take a swing at her.

Richard nodded. "She's already booked the procedure."

The doctor came out and called Betty's name.

Aleah shot Betty a smug look and smiled. "Sorry for the hassle."

Betty walked up to Aleah and whispered, "You better hope he never remembers."

Aleah's face went pale.

So what? At least Richard was listening to her now, and once Betty got rid of the kid, Aleah had nothing to worry about.

Even if Richard ever remembered, he'd be too swamped with guilt to go back to Betty.

They'd be stuck together for life.

Watching Betty walk into the abortion room, Aleah smirked.

In the end, Betty still lost to her.

She grinned and looked up at Richard. "Mom said we should have dinner together tonight."

Richard nodded, looking all gloomy.

Aleah happily leaned on Richard. "Richard, I'm so stoked right now. Did she agree on when to divorce you? Can we get hitched on the same day?"

"Even though I don't remember what went down, since she agreed to abort the kid, I can't just push her to get the divorce papers right away. We should wait at least a month to let her recover," Richard felt angry but kept his cool. He had never realized how nasty Aleah was before.

She wasn't just nasty; she was super selfish.

After getting into the operating room, Betty went to the rest area to chill and drink some water. About forty minutes later, a nurse wheeled her out.

Her assistant, Audrey, shot Richard a cold look. "Ms. Willer said that once she's back on her feet, she'll go through with the divorce. The prenup's already signed, so don't expect to get any of her stuff."

Richard looked at Betty with concern.

Betty was worried this idiot would blow their cover, making all their efforts pointless.

Luckily, Aleah was all about the money. "Why? We've already talked to a lawyer. Your prenup is invalid. By law, half of everything Betty makes after marriage belongs to Richard."

Aleah wanted Richard to go after Betty's assets.

Originally, Aleah didn't care as long as Richard remembered her. After all, the Sanders Group shares and Arnold's money were enough for her.

But when the lawyer told her about Betty's assets and annual income, she was floored.

Why not go after that cash?

Betty sneered. "Aleah, you're even eyeing my assets?"

Richard frowned and looked at Aleah with a complicated expression, showing a hint of disgust.

She had become unfamiliar and terrifying, though maybe she had always been this way, just hiding it well before.

Richard suddenly felt that all those years of affection were worthless.

"Richard, she tricked you for so long and caused us so much pain. My injuries were all her doing. We can't let it slide. We must fight for what's ours. Mom's already found a lawyer. We must fight," Aleah whispered, holding Richard's arm.

Richard looked at Aleah and frowned. "Okay, I'll listen to you."

Aleah happily hugged Richard's arm and looked at Betty with a smug expression. "We've already contacted a lawyer. Talk to our lawyer about what you said. We don't want more, but we must fight for what belongs to Richard."

Betty leaned back in the wheelchair, looking at Aleah with a knowing look.

With this drama, she had probably erased the last bit of space she had in Richard's heart.

She was happy to see this outcome.

"Richard, I'll be waiting for your lawyer," Betty said with a cold smile.

Richard's back tightened. His wife's act was terrifying.

"You don't need to threaten us. We're not scared of you anymore. Richard is Mr. Sanders' son. No matter what tricks you pull, you won't scare us anymore," Aleah said proudly, pulling Richard away.
