Chapter 414 Justin's Heartwarming Maturity
At the Amusement Park.
Evelina held Justin's hand, Justin held Casey's hand, and Casey reluctantly held Joe's hand. Joe held Cordelia's hand.
"Justin, do you want some cotton candy? I'll buy it for you," Casey asked Justin excitedly as soon as they entered the amusement park.
Justin looked at the price of the cotton candy and cautiously replied, "I don't like sweets..."
The cotton candy at the amusement park was very expensive, twice the price of what it cost outside.
Richard used to take him to the amusement park once a year, but it wasn't as expensive as this one. He didn't have much money, so Justin never expressed his desires, not wanting to make Richard spend money.
"But Justin, you love sweets," Casey said, scratching his head in confusion.
At home, Justin loved eating little cakes.
"Then Justin, how about I buy you some ice cream?" Casey held Justin's hands and asked softly.
Justin looked at the price of the ice cream and shook his head. "No, it's too expensive, and it will give me a stomachache."
"It won't. Grandma, I want this," Joe said happily, pointing at the ice cream.
"One scoop of ice cream each. Eating too much will give you a stomachache," Cordelia said, not overly spoiling the children but still wanting them to enjoy their outing.
Justin thought for a moment and carefully tugged on Cordelia's clothes. "Grandma, I don't like this. Can I have a Popsicle instead?"
Cordelia was taken aback. "Popsicle?"
She didn't know what a Popsicle was.
"A Popsicle is a very cheap little ice pop," Evelina explained, laughing at Cordelia. "But Justin, this amusement park doesn't sell Popsicles, only ice cream."
"Grandma, then I won't eat it. I don't like it." Justin shook his head.
Evelina patted Justin's head. "Alright, Justin, let's go find something else delicious to eat."
"But Justin really loves ice cream. When Uncle Ethan bought us handmade ice cream, Justin was so happy," Casey said softly.
"He said he doesn't like it, so he doesn't like it. Stop talking," Joe said, interrupting Casey.
Casey didn't like Joe either. "I want to eat with Justin. I can't finish it by myself."
Casey ran over and handed his ice cream scoop to Justin. "Justin, I can't finish it. Can you help me eat it?"
Justin looked at Casey and happily nodded. "Okay, I'll help you eat it."
Cordelia felt sad watching Justin and was about to say something when Evelina stopped her.
Evelina shook her head at Cordelia. "Children have their pride. Justin didn't have a good life before, so it will take time."
Cordelia nodded, feeling a bit bitter. "These days, I can't sleep at night, not knowing how to make up for everything my daughter and the two kids have missed."
Justin was so mature; it was heart-wrenching.
"The children are healing each other. Look," Evelina said, pointing for Cordelia to see.
Joe had run off to buy cotton candy, took a bite, and frowned. "It's awful, too sweet. You eat it."
Then he handed it to Justin.
Justin, not wanting to waste it, carefully licked it and showed a surprised expression. It was very sweet.
Casey also came over to take a lick. "Justin, it's so sweet."
Therefore, the two little ones stood there, licking the cotton candy.
Casey laughed at the cotton candy stuck on Justin's nose, and Justin laughed at Casey.
"Kids, we're going to ride the carousel now. Follow me." Evelina led the way.
Cordelia followed behind.
Not far away, someone was watching Cordelia and Evelina closely and whispered, "Follow them. It's the little boy in the middle without the overalls."
At Ethan's Residence.
Ethan left Connor's place, feeling distracted the entire way. When he arrived downstairs, he sat in his car in silence for a long time.
He remembered that time in Boston when Jasmine was hiding in a corner after being provoked by Henry. Ethan could never forget her appearance and state of mind. He saw a lifeless despair in Jasmine's eyes. Living seemed like a torment and agony for her. If it weren't for Justin and Richard, Jasmine probably wouldn't have held on.
Connor had a point; he used Justin and Richard to threaten her, giving her a reason to keep going.
Now that Richard had Betty and Justin and Joe had found their father, if Jasmine were to be provoked again, she would truly have no reason to live.
Ethan knew Jasmine's condition was unstable, so pretending to be poor and pitiful was his way of providing some therapeutic support.
But he wasn't as professional as Connor.
Frowning, Ethan didn't trust Connor completely. "Mitchell, find me a trustworthy psychologist, someone who is an authority in this field."
"You already have Connor. He's considered an authority in Silverlight City. He's top-notch despite his OCD. It's hard to get him to treat someone." Mitchell mentioned Connor.
"Are you out of your mind? Hanging out with Edgar all the time has made you stupid. If I trusted Connor, I wouldn't be asking you to find me a psychologist," Ethan snapped, clearly in a bad mood, making Mitchell the unlucky target.
Mitchell sneered. "Got it, I'll find someone for you."
Ethan was going to hang up.
"Ethan, what's your issue with Connor? Is it because of his niece, Deborah Morris?" Mitchell asked curiously.
"You talk too much," Ethan said, hanging up directly.
Jasmine came downstairs and knocked on the car door. "Have you been waiting long?"
Ethan shook his head with a smile. "No, I just got here."
"I'm dressed a bit too conspicuously," Jasmine said, sticking her tongue out at Ethan.
Ethan laughed. "You should have worn something red."
Jasmine shyly covered her face. "That would be too obvious."
Ethan was taking Jasmine to see Howard, so they had to pay attention to appearances.
Jasmine had deliberately worn a brightly colored dress she didn't usually wear, making her look quite vibrant.
Ethan was actually very happy; Jasmine finally had a bit of a mischievous side.
"The company has a project coming up, and I need to take Richard on a business trip for seven days. During those seven days, would you stay with the Cunningham family?" Ethan asked Jasmine.
"Sure, I'll keep Mom company." Jasmine nodded.
"I'm upset. You seem so eager to get rid of me," Ethan said with a cold smile.
Jasmine shyly shook her head. "No, I'm not."
"Jasmine, am I important to you?" Ethan suddenly asked softly.
Jasmine was taken aback and looked up at Ethan. "Very important."
"Look at these names. Mom said we should change your last name; following Benjamin's surname is too unlucky." Ethan quickly changed the subject.
"These names all sound nice." Jasmine smiled. "Actually, I don't care much about the name as long as you all are with me."
"That's not acceptable. Names are important. Edgar found these names for you," Ethan insisted.
