Chapter 685 Jasmine Forces Mark to Make a Decision
"It seems that between your son and your lover, you've chosen your son," Jasmine said, looking at Mark.
The handle he had was only enough to save one person.
With Daniel's abilities, even if he were saved, what could he do?
"You want your son to fight for control of the Douglas Group. By then, it will still be in time to save Claire, right?" Jasmine smiled. "Your plan is quite good."
"Owen is coming on strong now. He will take this opportunity to destroy the Douglas family. You have no choice but to cooperate with me," Mark said nervously. "I can assure you, all I want is to get my son out."
He spoke as if he were a father making up for his child.
But if he truly loved his child, he wouldn't have used them as tools, placing them by Howard's side.
"Besides, he's my son, not Howard's. He doesn't pose much of a threat to you," Mark said urgently. "I just feel I owe him. Once he's out, I'll follow his wishes. If he doesn't want to stay, we'll leave here."
Jasmine squinted at Mark. Could he be trusted?
He had no credibility at all.
But he was right about one thing: Daniel wasn't Howard's son, not a bloodline of the Douglas family, which significantly reduced the threat.
Compared to Daniel, Bradley was a much bigger threat.
"I heard Claire has gone a bit mad in jail. Are you sure you don't want to save your wife first? I've heard she's begged you many times," Jasmine said with a faint smile, looking at Mark.
That smile was somewhat cruel.
What Claire was experiencing now was only a tenth of the pain she had caused in the past.
But even just a tenth, Claire couldn't bear it.
Mark clenched his hands tightly. How could he not know that a woman like Claire, accustomed to luxury, couldn't adapt to prison life?
But right now, he could only choose between Daniel and Claire.
"Not reconsidering? Women's prisons are way scarier. The inmates there have endless ways to torment people for fun. They'll make her wish she were dead." Jasmine warned, her eyes gleaming with a sinister control over fate. But six years ago, she was the ant trampled underfoot by these people.
Power was truly a wonderful thing.
Indeed, only when one got power, background, money, and status could they truly stand tall.
The wealthy must bow to power, and the powerful must align with interests. This world had never been black and white.
If someone were pure and flawless, countless people would drag them down, trample them underfoot, watch them fall, and see them consumed by sin until they became like everyone else, no longer an outlier."I choose Daniel," Mark said through gritted teeth.
He was quite ruthless. Daniel would be out in a year at most, but he still gave Daniel the opportunity.
Jasmine raised an eyebrow and nodded. "Alright, tell me your bargaining chip, and let me see if it's worth the price."
Mark took a deep breath and handed a piece of paper to Jasmine. "Owen is a pedophile."
Jasmine glanced at the photo, her fingers slowly tightening.
Not just a pedophile, but a pedophile of young boys.
He was truly a disgusting and damned existence.
"In public, he's a gentleman. But behind the scenes, he's a beast. This boy just turned eighteen and has been with him for three years. He claims publicly that he's sponsoring the child," Mark said in a low voice.
If such a morally corrupt thing were to get out, Owen would indeed be in trouble for a while.
"But this boy has been thoroughly brainwashed by him and won't come forward to testify. So it can only be a moral condemnation." Mark reminded Jasmine.
Jasmine tore the photo into pieces and threw it in the trash. "So it's hereditary. No wonder Owen was so angry when Christopher's scandal broke out a few days ago."
Not only did he think Christopher had tarnished the Hawthorne family's reputation, but he was also afraid Christopher would drag his own affairs into the light.
"Your bargaining chip is substantial. I'll take it and sign the MOU for Daniel," Jasmine said, raising her hand to indicate that Mark could leave.
Mark hesitated, looking at Jasmine for a while before speaking, "They say two people become more alike the longer they're together. You're becoming more and more like Ethan."
Jasmine was stunned for a moment and said nothing.
Was that so?
Maybe she missed him too much.
"Mark's purpose for coming." After Mark left, Ben walked in, worried.
"He gave me some dirt on Owen, enough to keep him in check for a while. The condition is to get Daniel out," Jasmine said, standing up and looking out the window.
"Why do I feel like Mark is using you to kill Owen?" Ben felt something was off but couldn't pinpoint it.
"Yes. Didn't you see he's injured? Owen must have tried to silence him because Mark knows too many of Owen's secrets. What he told me is just the tip of the iceberg." Jasmine also knew Mark was using her.
"Since he can use me, I can use him too," Jasmine said, glancing at the time. "Have the lawyer arrange a meeting. I want to see Claire."
Jasmine sat in the visitation room, noting how Claire seemed to have aged ten years overnight.
Over the years, she had lived a life of luxury in the Douglas family, spending a lot of money on maintenance and beauty treatments, keeping herself in excellent condition. But in just a few days, she had been tormented beyond recognition.
"Why is it you?" Claire was agitated when she saw Jasmine, trying to stand up but being pressed back into her chair.
Jasmine smiled at Claire. "I've had someone take good care of you in there. It seems you're doing well."
Claire's eyes widened as if she wanted to eat Jasmine alive. "Bitch, you bitch! I will get out. I'll be out soon, just wait."
"You're quite confident. Do you think Mark will use the current situation to get you out?" Jasmine covered her mouth and laughed lightly. "He won't. Because between you and Daniel, Mark has unwaveringly chosen his son."
Claire froze. "What do you mean?"
"Literally, Mark gave me plenty of bargaining chips to sign the MOU and forgive Daniel. He chose Daniel and abandoned you. Now, you're just my plaything," Jasmine said, standing up and looking at Claire. "Enjoy yourself. I promise you won't walk out of prison alive."
An eye for an eye, she would make sure Claire paid for her crimes.
"Jasmine! Stop, stop! Jasmine!"
"Please, please, let me go."
She probably realized Mark wouldn't save her, crying out in despair.
Seeing Jasmine not stopping, she frantically pounded the table. "Jasmine! You bitch. I'll get out and kill you!"
Jasmine sneered. Let her struggle in this hopeless environment for a while longer.
The next time she came, she hoped Claire would be even more desperate.
Only then could she get some useful information out of Claire.
There was no rush now.
"It's raining," Ben said, holding an umbrella for Jasmine as they left the prison.
"Ben, do you believe in retribution?" Jasmine's voice was a bit hoarse as she asked.
"What goes around comes around. It's not that it won't happen, just that the time hasn't arrived yet," Ben said in a low voice.
The atmosphere was a bit oppressive.
Jasmine let out a bitter laugh, her eyes burning.
"You two, stop standing there and come over. That place isn't good," Tom said, standing in the rain, holding a grapefruit, and calling out to them.
