Chapter 538 Edward Knows How to Humiliate People

Cordelia left William alone, something she rarely did.

Willian sat cautiously on the sofa, trying not to draw attention.

In the past, he'd come home acting all high and mighty, even though he knew he had no real place in the family. But now, that arrogance was gone.

No one in the Cunningham family ever understood where his arrogance came from, but it was definitely gone now.

Sophia probably had something to do with breaking that arrogance.

"Cordelia," Willian said, watching her juggle the two kids. He got up to help.

Cordelia frowned. "Stay out of the way, don't make a mess."

Cordelia and the nanny were prepping dinner since all the kids were coming home that night.

Willian felt a bit useless, realizing he couldn't help at all.

Feeling a bit hurt, he stood aside. "Cordelia, let the servants handle it. You don't have to do everything."

To Willian, it made no sense why she insisted on doing it herself.

"You wouldn't get it," Cordelia said, looking at him. "All you care about is yourself."

Willian felt even more hurt, thinking he couldn't say anything right.

Cordelia went to the kitchen, leaving him standing there awkwardly.

The only reason she hadn't kicked him out was because he was partly responsible for their daughter's situation. Otherwise, he would've been gone long ago.

Feeling out of place, Willian walked over to Joe and Justin, who were playing with puzzles. "Joe, Justin, Grandpa's here to play. Need any help?"

Joe picked up a Rubik's Cube with a blank look. "I solved this in three minutes and 27 seconds. Can you beat that?"

Willian looked at the Rubik's Cube and felt a sudden fear of complex objects.

"I can't do this," he admitted.

Justin picked up a math problem. "Grandpa, can you solve this?"

Willian glanced at it and felt even more embarrassed.

He realized he was so out of touch he couldn't even help the kids.

Willian coughed to break the awkwardness. "You two are still young. Don't mess with such advanced stuff. Let's go play with mud. Kids love mud."

Justin and Joe looked at him, puzzled.

Why would they want to play with mud?

"How about this? Grandpa will play Ludo, chess, Go, or checkers with you." Willian suggested, hoping to win them over.

Joe reluctantly agreed. "Alright, let's play chess then."

So, Willian brought out the chessboard.

At first, he thought he should let the kids win to boost their confidence.

But after a few games, he lost his own confidence. He was the one feeling defeated.

After losing for the fifth time, Willian scratched his head. "Chess isn't Grandpa's thing. Let's try checkers."

And then, Justin beat him at checkers too.

"My uncle said not to play chess with old men because it makes them sad," Justin warned seriously before they started.

Willian thought, no way a kid could be better than him.

Turns out, kids these days are really impressive.

Jasmine and Ethan came back, and something seemed off.

Jasmine, usually gentle with Ethan, seemed unusually upset today.

They walked into the living room where only Willian and the two kids were. Cordelia and the nanny were busy in the kitchen.

"You guys are back early," Willian said awkwardly, feeling guilty towards Jasmine.

Since Jasmine was found late, Willian didn't know how to interact with her. "You two sit down."

Willian tried to act like the man of the house, telling them to make themselves comfortable.

Jasmine noticed his awkwardness.

But as long as he didn't feel awkward, the awkwardness was on others.

Jasmine didn't speak to Willian or Ethan, sulking on the sofa.

Ethan quickly followed to console her. "I swear, you misunderstood!"

Ethan was really at a loss. He had gone to a meeting at Raymond's today and was walking downstairs with Brandon. To avoid getting splashed by a passing water truck, he pulled Brandon to shield himself.

He didn't expect Jasmine to be right outside Raymond's building. From her angle, it probably looked like Brandon was doing something intimate with him.

Plus, Brandon had once fixed their toilet and been their landlord.

Jasmine immediately misunderstood!

'Brandon's bisexual and has a thing for Ethan, even wanting to sleep with him.'

The main issue was that Jasmine didn't want to go back to the rental house anymore, thinking it was a ploy by Brandon to pursue Ethan.

Ethan was really exasperated, not knowing how to explain.

To make matters worse, Brandon had a bad reputation in their circle.

"Honey, it's a misunderstanding, really. I swear," Ethan explained, trying not to laugh. "I don't know if Brandon is gay, but I'm definitely not."

Jasmine ignored Ethan.

"Honey, I really messed up." Ethan continued to console her. "Brandon was just being kind."

"You're still defending him." Jasmine's eyes reddened. "He helped you when you were at your lowest. Someone like him can't be that kind. He wouldn't risk offending Howard to get you into Raymond without ulterior motives."

Jasmine bit her lip. "Don't go to Raymond anymore. Go back to LY."

Ethan smiled helplessly and indulgently. "It's really not what you think. Brandon doesn't like my type."

Ethan rubbed his forehead. He didn't discriminate against others' sexual orientations, but Brandon's orientation was causing him trouble.

Brandon was a bit wild in their circle. Emily and her friends quickly built a network in Silverlight City, and everyone knew Brandon. He was likely the real boss behind Raymond, and everyone, regardless of gender, wanted to curry favor with him.

As a result, Brandon's reputation in the Silverlight City circle was quite bad.

Brandon's behavior made it difficult for Jasmine to trust his words, leading to her misunderstanding.

"Jasmine, you're back. Off work so early today?" Edward came back, waving a bag at Jasmine. "I stood in line to get you some egg tarts."

Jasmine's eyes lit up, temporarily forgetting her jealousy, and she happily ran to eat it.

With her brothers around, she would be spoiled forever.

"Uncle, what about ours?" Joe and Justin looked up expectantly.

"Uncle has to spoil your mom first. Whatever's left is yours," Edward said, ruffling the two little guys' hair. He then noticed Willian sitting there, almost invisible.

"You rarely come by, Dad. What brings you here again?" Edward's words were always sharp.
