Chapter 302 Betty Helps Wilson Confront Someone

Upon hearing a woman's voice on the other end of the phone, the caller seemed startled. Without saying a word, they hung up.

Betty looked suspiciously at the phone. Was this a prank call?

Buzz! Richard's phone rang again, this time showing Maxwell's name.

Betty knew Maxwell was Richard's friend and the one who recommended him as a bodyguard.

"Richard, it's for you," Betty answered and put the call on speaker, obediently handing the phone to Richard.

"Hello? Maxwell, what's up?"

"Richard, Aurora is back. Did you know?" Maxwell asked.

Richard remained silent, continuing to make the burger.

"She got into trouble, got robbed on Shui Street, and is now injured in the hospital. She said she's been calling you, but you haven't answered. You were always asking about how she was doing before. Do you want to go and see her?" Maxwell was unaware of Richard and Betty's relationship.

After a quick glance at Betty, Richard stopped what he was doing, took the phone, put on his headphones, and went aside to answer the call.

Betty chuckled. So, it was his ex-girlfriend.

"Maxwell, I have a girlfriend now," Richard informed his friend directly. He was in a relationship.

He just didn't know how long this new relationship would last.

"What? Since when? Why didn't you introduce us?" Maxwell asked.

"It's not the right time yet. We'll have a chance in the future. I'm not sure if it will work out." Richard walked into the bathroom and lit a cigarette.

"Okay, but what about Aurora? Aren't you going to see her?" Maxwell asked again. "She doesn't have any family in Silverlight City and is feeling quite helpless."

"My girlfriend gets jealous, and besides, there's a high society banquet at the boss's place tonight. I have to attend." Richard's figure seemed a bit lonely as he spoke again. "I'll transfer you $20,000. You bring it to her and tell her that it's impossible between us. I have someone else now."

Maxwell remained silent for a moment before speaking. "Alright, I'll go over."

"You've been through a lot," Richard said as he hung up the phone and walked out of the restroom.

Just as he opened the door, he saw Betty standing at the doorway, looking resentful.

It startled him. "What's wrong?" Richard instinctively put out his cigarette, not wanting her to inhale secondhand smoke.

"Who are you sending money to? Your money is my money, and if you want to give it to someone else, you must have my approval," Betty said, a bit angry.

They had broken up a long time ago, and it was the other woman who broke up with him. Why should he give her money?

It wasn't that Betty was stingy, but these twenty thousand dollars, he shouldn't give it to Aurora even if she were a beggar.

"You heard?" Richard felt a bit uncomfortable as he looked at Betty and spoke again. "She's been with me for seven or eight years since she was just a teenager. I joined the military, and she has always helped take care of my family. I heard her husband was treating her badly, and being abusive. She even got kicked out of her own home. I feel like I should come out and help her at this time."

"Hmph," Betty said angrily.

She was angry that he had been with his first love for so many years, and they had truly loved each other.

Maybe she was jealous; she felt like she couldn't compare to Aurora.

She had investigated Richard and Aurora. Richard dropped out of high school and spent a few years as a hoodlum. Aurora was a high school student and an excellent student. She was bullied by hoodlums, and Richard had helped her.

Afterward, Aurora developed feelings for Richard, and they got together when they were in their teens.

But Richard had never touched her. At that time, Richard thought Aurora was still young, and if she still wanted to be with him after going to college, it wouldn't be too late to have a physical relationship at that time.

Richard treated Aurora well. The money he earned from working not only supported the family expenses and Serena's tuition fees but also supported Aurora.

Richard also joined the military for Aurora because he didn't want to lead an aimless life as a hoodlum, working hard but barely earning any money.

The year Aurora got into college was the year Richard joined the military.

Because of his outstanding performance, he was chosen to go to Mystic Haven for two years immediately after the boot camp. He was seriously injured in another rescue mission and discharged due to the injury.

Because his education wasn't sufficient, he couldn't continue to stay in the army, and it was difficult for him to find a good job right away. So, he started working as a car mechanic.

In addition to the incident involving Wilson and Serena's true and false heiress, Richard had been helping Wilson raise Justin ever since.

During those years, Aurora was in a relationship with Richard. Aurora was considered a great girl and always stuck by his side. However, after Aurora graduated from college, she decided to pursue further studies, which caused her to drift apart from Richard.

Aurora increasingly felt that Richard's social status did not match hers. She also realized the gap between her and Richard. Love alone was not enough to sustain their relationship. She needed a man who could provide stability in her life.

She asked Richard to give up Justin and choose to accompany her abroad, claiming that she had fought for this opportunity for many years. Richard refused, as he would not abandon Justin.

Later on, Aurora chose to be with a wealthy man, even if it meant becoming a stepmother and leading a different life. Now, she is back after a divorce.

"If you disagree, I will tell Maxwell that my girlfriend is too controlling," Richard laughed, trying his best to appease Betty, even though he was not the best at comforting others.

"You make it sound like I'm immature," Betty jumped up and hugged Richard, speaking with a muffled voice. "Richard, do you still love her?"

Their relationship had lasted for so many years; it seemed impossible to just let it go. Aurora was Richard's first love, someone he had once deeply loved and who had hurt him the most.

Richard remained silent, not saying a word. Betty took a deep breath, feeling a sharp pain in her chest. She had truly fallen in love with Richard.

"I can offer her two hundred thousand dollars, but you must never see her again, and you must stop loving her," Betty pleaded, her voice tinged with desperation.

"Are you burning with money?" Richard smiled, holding Betty's hand. "Let's go, the hamburgers have gotten cold."

Richard did not know how long Betty's affection for him would last, but now that he had crossed the line with her, he had to take responsibility. As for Aurora, Richard admitted that if it weren't for Betty, he would definitely have softened if she had come back to him.

At the Bellagio Hotel.

The high society banquet invited wealthy heiresses from all around Silverlight City, elite wives from prestigious families, and some top celebrities from the entertainment industry. All the attendees were well-known figures.

This event primarily invited Annabelle, as news of her being the Cunningham Heiress had already spread. Betty had originally not planned to attend, but Ethan messaged her saying that Wilson would be there, so she reluctantly came to accompany her.

After all, Wilson was too soft-hearted.

The person who invited Wilson was Annabelle, and her original intention was to make Wilson the subject of ridicule. However, Wilson saw a business opportunity. Apart from Annabelle, there was also a powerful woman coming tonight, known as the Wife of the Wealthiest in Sherlock Harbo. Although this woman was in her forties, she was highly regarded in both the high society and the wives’ circle. Her husband was the renowned Venture Capitalist Titan of Sherlock Harbo, and any company her husband invested in was a leader in its industry.

Wilson wanted to help Ethan start a business by pulling resources. Annabelle, on the other hand, wanted to attract investments for Stellar Enterprises' project, for the sake of Daniel.

"Oh, isn't that Wilson? The phony rich girl from the Wilson Residence. How does she have the face to come here? She's neither a rich girl nor a wealthy lady. Who invited her?" someone sneered.

"Exactly, what a disgrace. She's here to hook a man, right? Does she want to marry into a wealthy family?" another person chimed in.

"I heard she got pregnant out of wedlock, and nobody knows who the father of her child is. I doubt she can marry anyone with that kind of reputation. How embarrassing," several socialites gathered together, badmouthing Wilson and buttering up to Annabelle.

Annabelle sneered, enjoying the sight of Wilson being laughed at.

"I don't know if Wilson can find a husband or if she's embarrassed, but who knows whose bed your husbands are currently lying in?" Betty approached from behind, pushing aside the obstructing individuals and walking straight toward Wilson.

"All the men they married are toads, and they are proud of it. Their husbands are unbelievably ugly, as are their children. I have no clue how they have the audacity to come out and strut around," Betty and Wilson vented, with Betty's voice notably loud, emphasizing her fearlessness.
