Chapter 655 Ethan Has Taken Great Care of Jasmine
Ben and Tom stood by Jasmine's bedside at Capital Hospital, watching her still out cold.
"Man, why are women so delicate? If she were my wife, I'd be scared to even touch her," Tom whispered.
Ben sighed. "Who could handle your roughness? Find a guy who's not so fragile."
Tom looked at Ben, shocked, clutching his chest. "Ben, are you into guys?"
Ben rolled his eyes. "Shut up. You're gonna wake her."
Sure enough, Jasmine frowned and woke up.
"How are you feeling? Any pain?" Ben asked, standing up cautiously.
"Too noisy," Jasmine frowned, glaring at Tom. It was his chatter that woke her.
"Alright, alright. I'm outta here." Tom walked out and stood by the door.
Ben poured Jasmine a glass of water. "It's okay now. The cops hauled the kidnappers off. They didn't name Deborah, but it sure sent her a strong message."
Jasmine shook her head; she didn't care about the kidnappers.
She knew the people behind the scenes wanted to know if Ethan was really in trouble.
With the enemy hidden and themselves exposed, vulnerability crept in. Ethan's sudden disappearance puzzled and alarmed them, leading to panic.
Ridiculous.
"Drink some water," Ben said softly.
Jasmine shook her head. "No. I'm fine."
Propping herself up, Jasmine reached out to remove the IV needle from her hand.
She recalled how, early in their relationship, she would sneakily remove the IV needle and flee. Ethan's attentive care since then stood out to her.
But Ethan was also quite cruel.
Jasmine smiled bitterly.
She suddenly understood why her pregnancy came so suddenly, even though she had been careful with contraception.
Ethan must have anticipated something might happen to him; he did it on purpose.
Since she was no longer alone, she had to prioritize the well-being of the child in her belly, making self-harm or neglect less of an option.
In the end, Jasmine didn't remove the IV needle. She sat numbly on the hospital bed.
Ben wanted to comfort her but remained silent in the end.
"I need some alone time. You all head back first. I'll make my own way back once it's done." Jasmine wanted to be alone for a while.
Ben wanted to refuse, but Jasmine was serious, so he had to agree.
Let her calm down for a bit.
After finishing the IV, Jasmine left the hospital.
She walked home, stepping on the fallen leaves.
She had thought this year's Christmas would be lively.
She had thought she finally had a complete home of her own.
Looking up at the gray sky, tears blurred her vision. "Ethan, if you don't come back, what will I do?"
He spoiled her and then cruelly abandoned her.
In the distance, Ben and Tom followed silently, not daring to get too close or let her out of their sight.
It wasn't until Jasmine returned to her apartment and got on the elevator that they found a place to smoke.
"When do you think Ethan will come back?" Ben asked.
"Ethan?" Tom looked around. "I'm telling you, no one knows."
Anyway, the Cullinan Ethan promised hadn't been delivered yet, so he definitely wouldn't die.
Ben took a deep drag on his cigarette. "Seeing Jasmine like this has me really concerned. She can't hold on much longer."
Tom was also troubled. "How about we convince Jasmine to remarry? Maybe that'll force Ethan out."
Ben almost choked on his smoke. "Dude, you're nuts. Ethan would kill you if he heard that."
Jasmine entered her home and cried on the sofa for a long time. After a while, she wiped her tears and sat up.
"Henry, where are you?" Jasmine called out.
"Taking Justin back to your mom's," Henry said cautiously, worried she'd find out Justin had been taken away.
"Book a restaurant. Tonight, let's go to Sunshine Restaurant for dinner. Preferably book the whole place, just the two of us." Jasmine's voice was hoarse, like she'd been crying and made a decision.
Jasmine dared to attempt kidnapping, so naturally, she had to try finding a man to provoke Ethan.
Jasmine's kidnapping and Justin being taken away hadn't forced Ethan out. She wondered if a late-night date with Henry would do the trick.
Jasmine didn't want to force Ethan to show up; she just wanted to know if he was safe.
"Where are you?" Henry's voice was a bit hoarse. He knew Jasmine had an agenda, but he was still a bit excited.
"At home, Sunny Road," Jasmine said softly.
"Okay," Henry replied. "Wait ten minutes, then come downstairs."
After hanging up the phone, Jasmine lay on the sofa, realizing that involving Justin meant she had to bring Henry into the situation for fairness.
Now, Owen and the people behind him were watching Ethan. Jasmine had to go crazy, make them unsure if Ethan was alive, and also pull people in, letting them know that Jasmine not only wanted to protect everything about Ethan and hold onto the Douglas family but also to unite with Henry.
After waiting for five minutes, Jasmine changed her clothes, applied some lipstick, eyeshadow, and mascara, and went downstairs.
Henry was already there, leaning against the car door, waiting for her. He opened the car door for her like a gentleman, letting Jasmine in.
Jasmine sat in the car and glanced in the rearview mirror. Recently, someone had been watching her from behind; it was definitely not her imagination. Was it Ethan?
"When are you going back to Muskow?" Jasmine asked.
Henry glanced at Jasmine. "Do you want me to stay?"
He knew Jasmine needed him now. Due to Justin's involvement in Matthew's death, he was obliged to return for Justin's sake. Ian was clearly problematic.
"My wishes don't matter," Jasmine said indifferently.
"I'm not leaving." Henry smiled helplessly. He owed Jasmine, and he had to repay her.
Henry had booked the entire place at Sunshine Restaurant in advance. The unusually quiet top floor found Jasmine seated by the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing out at San Francisco.
"What do you want to eat?" Henry asked.
Jasmine shook her head. "Not hungry. Just chilling here is good."
She just needed to put on a show, not really wanting to have dinner with Henry.
"If," Henry paused and spoke again, "if something really happens to Ethan, I can protect you and the child."
"No," Jasmine answered seriously. "Ethan will be fine. And if there are any issues, I'll look out for my child."
Jasmine was confident, and there was a glow about her when she spoke.
Henry looked at Jasmine and remained silent for a long time. Ethan had really taken good care of Jasmine.
From Sunshine Restaurant, Jasmine deliberately talked with Henry at the door for a long time.
Back home, the house was empty. Just as Jasmine was about to turn on the light, someone hugged her from behind.
Jasmine was startled and then froze.
