Chapter 482 No Evidence

Evelina had just stepped out of the ward when she saw a bunch of cops rushing into the inpatient department.

A crowd had gathered, including media and reporters.

"What's going on?" Evelina asked, curious.

Julia, next to her, whispered, "While you were in the ward, I found out someone reported the Harper family for tax evasion, running an underground company issuing fake VAT invoices, and money laundering. It's a huge scandal involving many companies and people."

Julia glanced around, noting the Douglas Group might be involved. She wondered if this could shake their foundation.

Evelina squinted and smiled. "Actions have consequences."

"Not really. The police couldn't find many accounts. They wanted to take the Harper couple for questioning, but when they got to their house, they found them dead, stabbed multiple times, and poisoned."

Evelina's face darkened. "Let's head back to the Cunningham family."

Clearly, the Harper family's situation was more complicated than it seemed.

Jasmine was at school when the landlord called, saying they needed to replace a water heater valve and asked her to come home to open the door.

She hadn't planned to go home today but decided to stay once she returned.

It had been a few days since she last saw Ethan.

"I called your husband," Brandon said resentfully. "He said he was working overtime and asked you to come back to open the door."

Jasmine nodded and explained, "I'm sorry. He's been busy with work lately. If you need anything, just call me."

Jasmine worried it might be about the rent.

Luckily, Brandon seemed young, nice, and easy to get along with.

Brandon muttered, "He's lucky to have such a good wife."

Jasmine didn't hear him and waited in the kitchen. "Which valve needs replacing?"

Brandon was stunned. He had never repaired a water heater valve; he was just told to trick Jasmine into coming home.

Ethan was cunning, and Jasmine, being naive, was no match for him. "The valve needs regular replacement; otherwise, it's dangerous. Let me take a look."

Brandon fumbled around, dismantling and reassembling a part. He smiled and nodded. "All done. I'll be leaving now."

Jasmine saw Brandon off, and shortly after, Ethan came back.

After a hot shower, Jasmine came out wrapped in a towel and saw Ethan grinning. "Honey, are you trying to seduce me?"

Jasmine's ears turned red. Seeing Ethan looking exhausted, she hugged him. "Are you tired?"

"I need a shower first. All those partners love to smoke, and I've been smelling smoke all afternoon," Ethan said irritably.

Jasmine smiled. "Okay."

Ethan smirked. If he didn't use some tricks, his wife would keep letting him stay home alone.

He took off his clothes and walked around the living room without any reservations.

Jasmine covered her face, too embarrassed to look.

Even though she had seen him naked many times, she still blushed and her heart raced.

Mainly because he was just too handsome, with a perfect body.

He had a physique better than most celebrities.

Jasmine couldn't help staring at his body.

Especially those well-defined back muscles. Ethan grabbed a bottle of cold water from the fridge and saw Jasmine blushing and coughing while holding a cup.

Was she choking?

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Ethan teased, seeing her nervous expression.

Having his wife at home felt great. He had been sleeping alone every night and had often wanted to blow up the dormitory at Stanford University.

Jasmine stammered, "Like what?"

Ethan laughed, trapping her on the couch and whispering in her ear, "Like you want to pounce on me and devour me."

Jasmine's face turned bright red, and she hugged herself tightly. "You're talking nonsense."

Ethan stopped teasing, knowing if he continued, he'd be the one to suffer.

He decided to take a shower.

Not long after, Jasmine heard Ethan cursing in the bathroom.

"No hot water." Ethan came out with a dark expression, wrapped in a towel and dripping wet.

Jasmine was surprised. "That's impossible. Brandon came to replace the valve today. It was hot when I used it."

Ethan gave a sinister smile. "If he hadn't come, the valve wouldn't have broken."

He grabbed some tools and went into the kitchen, staring at the water heater in deep thought.

He didn't know how to fix it either.

In the end, Ethan called Liam to come over.

Liam resentfully tightened the water heater valve screw and turned it back on. "Ethan, without me, you don't even know basic life skills."

Ethan warned Liam to shut up and went back to the bathroom.

"The Harper family is in trouble," Liam cautiously reported to Jasmine.

Jasmine found Liam's words amusing.

To show his loyalty, Liam now only reported to her.

"Have the police intervened? Did the Harpers reveal the list?" Jasmine asked seriously.

She had handed over the Harper family's evidence to the police, not just to take them down.

The Harper family must have had something on Howard; otherwise, with Howard's character, he wouldn't have tolerated the Harper family or Annabelle.

"The police have sealed the information because the Harper couple was found dead at home," Liam said gravely.

Jasmine was stunned and stood up abruptly. "They're dead?"

Were they silenced?

"I heard Zelda poisoned their food. Annabelle is the only one still in the ICU because she was hospitalized and received timely treatment after being poisoned. The Harper couple is dead, but the fatal wounds were from being stabbed several times," Liam explained.

Jasmine raised her hand, biting her finger thoughtfully.

"Now the police are hunting for Zelda, but since she has a mental illness, she probably won't get the death penalty if caught. This is truly the Harper family's retribution." Liam sighed.

Jasmine remained silent.

Her original plan was to have the police take the Harper couple for investigation and find a way to make them reveal Howard, which would significantly drain the Douglas Group's resources.

But now, it seemed there was no evidence left.
