Chapter 321 Betty and Richard Open Up About the Past

Betty's home.

Betty lost control and dropped the wine glass and bottle in the bedroom, leaving shards all over the floor. She walked numbly on the glass shards, cutting her feet without feeling a thing.

Picking up her phone from the floor, Betty called Ethan.

"Braden is in Silverlight City. His company is entering the Silverlight City market, and he came to see me," Betty said in a low voice.

"Let that be an journey never back for him," Ethan replied coldly.

Betty took a deep breath. " I'll handle Braden myself. You protect Richard and Jasmine for me. I'm afraid he's been eyeing Richard for a while."

Ethan remained silent. 'If Braden dared to touch my wife, he would be asking for trouble in Silverlight City.' he pondered.

After hanging up, Betty clenched her phone with trembling fingers.

Braden...

She had nothing left to fear losing except Richard.
Stay within her bottom line. Otherwise, she would really kill him.

"Ms. Betty, Richard is here," the nanny whispered outside the door.

"I don't want to see him," Betty choked.

She was afraid Richard would come to question what had happened five years ago.

"But he refuses to leave," the nanny added, feeling troubled.

It was raining outside, and the sky was gloomy.

Richard stood in the yard, refusing to leave even as the rain poured down.

The rain grew heavier, but Richard remained standing in the rain, refusing to budge.

Betty stood by the French window, watching Richard, her eyes reddening.

He knew her so well, understanding her reluctance.

"Let him come up," Betty said hoarsely.

When Richard entered the bedroom, the room was dimly lit as he was soaked through like a drowned rat..

Betty stood by the window, slender and fragile, hugging herself back to him, gazing at the pouring rain.

For a moment, Richard felt overwhelmed by affection in his heart.

He didn't know why.

Seeing the glass shards on the floor, Richard darkened his expression. He quickly walked over, grabbed Betty's wrist, and lifted her onto the bed. "Aren't you going to pamper me?"

Betty remained silent.

Richard took a deep breath, turned on the light, fetched the first aid kit, and tended to her wounds.

"You should go take a shower first," Betty said softly.

Richard was worried about whether she would be pampered, but she was also worried about whether Richard would catch a cold.

Richard said nothing, finishing dressing her wounds before heading to the bathroom to shower.

"Are you here to ask for a divorce?" Betty asked tearfully.

She was scared.

Richard turned to look at Betty. "Aurora said, even if you don't have me, you have such a big family business as the Ryan family and the money that you can't spend in this life. But she has nothing without me."

Betty tightly clasped her hands, on the verge of breaking down, almost hysterical.

"Do you think so?" Richard asked.

Betty stubbornly refused to cry, her eyes burning. "You should ask yourself that."

"But I believe that without me, you can't manage on your own," Richard's words dripped with anger. "Why did you put your foot on the glass shard?"

Betty averted her gaze. "If you want to break up, just say it. Without you, I can find many other men. You're not the only man in the world."

"Can you pretend not to care a bit more?" Richard, irritated by Betty, turned and bit her chin in a retaliatory kiss.

Betty cried, unable to hold back her emotions any longer, lashing out at Richard, hitting and crying. "Go back to your ex-girlfriend! Why did you come back?"

"Betty, I chose you, so I don't have the right to let go. That right has always been in your hands. So unless you don't want me, I won't give up," Richard lifted Betty and kissed her all the way to the bathroom.

Betty tore Richard's soaked shirt, her fingers trembling to the circular scar running through his chest and back, crying hoarsely. "Richard, do you love me?"

Love her like you loved Aurora in the past.

Richard said nothing, but his kisses deepened.

Betty bit Richard's neck forcefully.

Richard let her bite, feeling at that moment that Betty's feelings for him were genuine and passionate.

Her love was intense, persistent, and obsessive.

It was hard for him not to be moved by it.

When Richard came out of the bathroom, Betty was already asleep in bed.

The doctor had treated the wound on her foot. The bandaging looked much better than his.

Sitting by the bed, Richard watched Betty for a long time, then got up to get a glass of water.

"Do you have something to ask me?" Betty suddenly grabbed Richard's wrist, afraid he would leave.

"Aurora said that someone gave her 100,000 dollars five years ago to leave me," Richard said, looking at Betty.

"Do you believe her?" Betty stared at Richard intently.

"It's always been Aurora talking. I want to hear it from you," Richard said, his voice hoarse.

"Five years ago, when you loved Aurora so much, how could you easily let go? What was the real reason for your breakup?" Betty countered Richard.

Richard remained silent.

"In fact, you know very well in your heart," Betty took a deep breath. "It's just that Aurora thinks you're unaware of what she did."

"How did we meet?" Richard wanted to know.

"Five years ago, I was kidnapped on my way to the Silverlight City airport and taken out of the country," Betty said in a low voice, a chill in her tone. "The Ryan family thought I had gone to Serafinia, and the Johnson family had been concealing it, leaving me stranded abroad for a whole year."

During that year, no one knew how desperate Betty was.

She believed she could escape, but every attempt ended in capture, beatings, and harm.

"You forgot, you saved me. You took that bullet for me," Betty's fingers touched the scar on Richard's chest.

Richard was severely injured and retired because of that bullet, but Betty met Richard because of it.

Richard felt a sharp pain spreading from the wound.

They were only responsible for cooperating with the police and couldn't inquire too much about the rescue.

Richard only remembered the kidnapped woman he rescued, dirty and emaciated, curled up in a cage.

Those cages were used for aggressive dogs.

Richard finally understood why Betty was afraid of dogs.

The pain in his heart intensified, and Richard clenched his fists tightly.

At that moment, he couldn't connect the rescued victim with the current Betty.

"Do you think I will confuse gratitude with love?" Betty smiled faintly. "I'm not that boring, nor did I fall for you at first sight. In fact, five years ago, I didn't love you. I just wanted to repay you for saving my life. Aurora was right about the 100,000 dollars."

Pale-faced, Betty gazed at the ceiling, her fingers weakly releasing Richard.

"When I found you five years ago, you were almost dying in the underground boxing ring. I'm down there, watching you die like a trapped beast for a woman," Betty said.
