Chapter 562: Fiona and Dean Do a Paternity Test
Amelia stared at the card for what felt like forever, then shoved it back. "Keep your cash. I don't need it."
She stood up, looking Nolan dead in the eye. "If you got nothing else to say, I'm out. Don't worry about me, I can support my self. Later."
She turned and walked out into the yard, taking a deep breath, feeling a bit lighter.
Sure, Nolan's money could cover the hospital bills for an abortion, but she wasn't about to take his charity.
Nolan just stood there, dumbfounded. It wasn't until Amelia was out of sight that he snapped out of it and ran after her.
But she was already gone.
Nolan felt a mix of frustration and confusion. What was her deal?
Was she playing hard to get?
After a quick look around and not spotting her, he glanced back at Nathaniel's place.
And there she was, sitting on Nathaniel's doorstep, doodling in the dirt with a stick.
Nolan's anger flared. What was this? Did Nathaniel trick her, or was she just that desperate?
Just as he was about to storm over and drag her back, Nathaniel pulled up in his car.
Nathaniel got out, looking surprised to see Amelia. "You."
Amelia looked up at him. "Is that offer still on the table?"
Nathaniel blinked, then grinned. "Yeah, it is."
Amelia stood up, brushing her hands on her clothes. "Can I get an advance on my pay? I'll work hard, I promise."
Nathaniel nodded. "Come inside first; it's freezing out here."
He draped his coat over her shoulders and led her inside.
Nolan's frustration grew. Were girls these days really so quick to run into some guy's house?
Did she think Nathaniel could save her? What could an actor with no real connections do for her?
He wanted to call her back and give her a piece of his mind, but he stopped himself.
Right, who was Amelia to him anyway?
Why should he care?
After a moment, Nolan stormed back home, but he couldn't shake thoughts of Amelia all night.
The next afternoon, Cordelia dragged Fiona and Willian to the DNA Testing Center.
Willian wasn't thrilled but went along.
He knew Cordelia wanted answers.
"Did you talk to Evelyn?" Willian snapped, unable to keep his cool.
"What's it to you?" Cordelia shot back, icy.
"What do you mean? Evelyn's like a daughter to me. Blood or no blood, she's family. And now you're making her step back from the Cunningham family trust? The Cunninghams are still Cunninghams, not Richardsons!"
Cordelia's face darkened. "If you're sick, see a doctor. Don't yell at me."
When did she ever ask Evelyn to step back from the trust?
She never said that; she just met with Evelyn.
She thought Evelyn was a sweet, kind girl.
Evelyn didn't want to find her real parents, and Cordelia didn't push it.
Plus, Evelyn made it clear she didn't want to hurt Sophia. She said she didn't like Sophia, maybe even hated her a bit. But since Sophia raised her, she just wanted to stay away from all the drama, live her own life, and not get involved.
Cordelia respected Evelyn's choice. Sometimes, keeping distance was the smartest move.
"Mr. Cunningham, you might be my biological dad, but after all these years, you still don't get Cordelia. Living with someone as selfish as you is pure hell." Fiona stepped up, blocking Willian's view. "Before you start pointing fingers, get your facts straight."
First impressions could be way off.
"Evelyn met with me last night, cooked a whole meal. She knows she's not my biological daughter and is grateful for my support. She said I'd always be her dad but couldn't keep using the Cunningham trust fund. She can support herself. Didn't she decide this because of something you said?"
Willian still blamed Cordelia, like it was wrong for her to meet Evelyn.
Cordelia ignored him, sitting quietly, waiting for the test.
But Willian wouldn't shut up.
"Can you be quiet? You're so annoying." Fiona covered her ears, clearly fed up.
Willian gritted his teeth. "You are definitely not my daughter. You don't look like my daughter at all."
Compared to Fiona, he preferred Evelyn.
Kids should be raised by their parents.
Look at Fiona, raised by Cordelia, stubborn just like her.
Kids really did take after who raises them.
"Do you think I want to be your daughter? If I'm not, I'd be thrilled. I'd thank God." Fiona glared at him and sat next to Cordelia.
Both of them snorted at Willian.
Feeling unwelcome, Willian got angrier.
Fine, if they wouldn't let him have peace, he wouldn't let Cordelia have that either.
Sitting aside, Willian sent a message to Nolan on Facebook: [Your mom is at the DNA Testing Center, forcing me and Fiona to do a paternity test. Come quick.]
"Fiona, Willian, it's your turn," the person in charge called them up politely.
Fiona took a deep breath, nervously clenching her hands.
She really didn't want to be Willian's daughter.
Willian reluctantly stood up and followed.
"Fiona!" Nolan burst in through the door.
He must've been nearby to get there so fast.
"Nolan? What are you doing here?" Fiona asked, surprised.
"Never mind that, come with me. We're not doing this." Nolan tried to pull Fiona away.
"Nolan, I volunteered for this." Fiona shook her head, breaking free from his grip. "I want answers too."
Nolan clenched his fists. "Can you handle whatever the result is?"
Fiona nodded. "Since I decided to do this, I can handle it."
"Then what will you do after the result comes out?" Nolan asked, clearly worried.
He was scared that once Fiona got the result, she'd never come back to the Cunningham family.
Their brief family bond would be broken.
"Nolan, no matter what the result is, you'll always be my brother." Fiona smiled. "Nolan, since you're here, sit down. Cordelia, let's wait for the result together."
Nolan's fingers, gripping Fiona's wrist, didn't loosen. "Think it through."
