Chapter 721 Jasmine Trusted Lily Too Much
"The police will get to the bottom of it," Ethan said without turning around.
He would no longer extend a helping hand to Deborah.
When Jasmine returned, Vincent was still at home, pacing back and forth.
Jasmine looked at Vincent warily. "Mark admitted he was the one behind it all. The trouble is over now. You can go back to Muskow."
"Using me when you need me and now trying to kick me out?"
Jasmine sighed. "Vincent, if you don't want to leave, no one can force you. I just wanted to let you know that the issue has been resolved. You can go now. Thank you."
Vincent laughed. "Thank you? I didn't help for free."
Jasmine looked at Vincent warily. "What exactly do you want?"
"I've already said I want everything that belongs to Ethan." Vincent insisted, still obsessively determined to take everything from Ethan.
"You can't take it. What's his is his," Jasmine said angrily.
"We'll see," Vincent said with a meaningful smirk.
Jasmine inexplicably found Vincent a bit frightening.
But indeed, without calling him back, Mark probably wouldn't have revealed his identity so quickly.
He seemed like a catalyst, accelerating the development of events.
Not wanting to deal with Vincent, Jasmine went into the kitchen.
The two little ones were coming over today, saying they wanted to learn math from Vincent.
Vincent seemed to have found joy in entertaining the kids. He would casually explain things and give them math problems that would keep them thinking for a long time.
"Jasmine, it's done. Lily is quite impressive. She quickly reached a cooperation agreement with Amara's enemies. Now, with support from within the company, Lily has taken control of the Powell family," Emily reported to Jasmine over the phone.
It was updating her on the situation in Kerea.
Jasmine was quite surprised that in just a few months, Lily managed to outshine Amara.
Although it was only temporary, Lily was able to bring about the cooperation.
"Jasmine," Emily spoke cautiously. "Greed can be deadly. Lily is now cornered. I feel she's acting strange. She asked me whether life or feelings are more important."
Emily had a hunch that Lily might betray Jasmine.
But there was no evidence yet.
"She won't." Jasmine still wanted to trust Lily one more time.
After all, they shared the same plight. She hoped Lily wouldn't betray the last bit of affection and friendship.
"Jasmine, be on guard," Emily said hurriedly. "I have to go now."
After hanging up, Jasmine was a bit distracted, not even noticing the boiling water.
"Are you boiling water in a pot?" Vincent asked, leaning against the door frame.
Jasmine snapped back to reality. "None of your business."
Vincent just smiled and said nothing.
It was almost time to sign the cooperation contract.
Lily wouldn't choose to cooperate with Mark and Daniel, would she?
When Ethan returned, Jasmine was still a bit distracted.
"We're not eating at home. Let's go out," Ethan said, holding Jasmine's hand and giving Vincent a disdainful look.
Having an extra person at home was too annoying.
Vincent, lounging on the sofa, said, "Suit yourself, but the two little ones won't be going with you."
Ethan sneered. "They're my sons. If I say they're coming, they're coming."
"Try it," Vincent said with a smile.
Jasmine always found Vincent's smile a bit creepy, an indescribable feeling.
Soon, the two little ones came in.
"Uncle! I solved the problem. Can you give us the next one?" Joe called out.
Joe and Justin ran excitedly to Vincent as soon as they entered.
They didn't even acknowledge Ethan and Jasmine?
"Dad's taking you out for something good to eat." Ethan coaxed.
But Justin and Joe were focused on having Vincent check their answers.
Justin said, "Dad, we don't want to go out. Uncle is going to teach us math."
Ethan was a bit angry but held back. "Mom is waiting for you. Let's go out to eat."
Justin and Joe were still engrossed in their problems.
Jasmine felt they had been brainwashed.
She looked at Vincent more warily. He seemed to have a knack for finding people's vulnerabilities, even in children.
Justin and Joe liked math, and Vincent had catered to their interests.
The two little ones, who usually adored and missed their dad the most, were now so captivated by Vincent.
Ethan frowned but couldn't forcefully take the kids away, so he compromised. "We'll eat at home."
Jasmine nodded.
And Vincent, with a smug smile, raised the corners of his mouth.
Ever since Vincent met Justin and Joe, the two little ones had been infatuated with him.
They thought Vincent was a genius who knew so much.
Jasmine was always a bit worried. But since the kids went to school during the day, she used the excuse that Cordelia missed them and had the butler take them to the Cunningham family after school.
At the Douglas Group, it was time to sign the contract, and the Powell family's representative in San Fransisco had arrived.
"We are definitely going to cooperate with the Douglas Group this time. But it seems like you all are betting on who we'll cooperate with?" the Powell family representative said with a smile.
Jasmine glanced at Ethan. "It's just rumors."
The representative said nothing, glancing at Mark and Daniel.
Bradley sat silently on the side.
"I wonder if Ethan and Jasmine dare to sign a side bet agreement?" Mark smiled at Jasmine. "Betting my shares against yours: the winner takes all."
Jasmine snorted. "In your dreams."
"What? Not confident?" Mark seemed very sure of himself.
The more confident he was, the more uneasy Jasmine felt.
Now that the Powell family was no longer under Amara's control but Lily's, why was Mark still so confident?
He should have heard that Lily now managed the Powell family.
"Let's discuss the cooperation first." Jasmine shifted the topic, looking at the Powell family representative.
The representative glanced at Mark. "We will only discuss with the CEO of the Douglas Group. Whoever signs the contract with us should manage the company. Otherwise, we have the right to terminate the cooperation."
The representative took out their agreement, which had been prepared in advance.
It stated that Ethan and Jasmine must promise that the person signing the contract must be the CEO of the Douglas family.
The Powell family's cooperation was crucial to saving the Douglas Group and restarting it.
Such a statement would surely be agreed upon by the higher-ups and the board, as it didn't affect their interests.
But Jasmine felt inexplicably uneasy.
What did this mean? She didn't instruct Lily to do this.
Lowering her head, Jasmine quietly sent a message to Emily, but there was no reply.
Feeling uneasy, Jasmine got up to call Emily, but the call went unanswered.
Jasmine felt a strong sense of panic.
Had she been too presumptuous in trusting Lily?
