Chapter 77 Jasmine Thought Ethan was Going to Sleep with Her?
Jasmine lowered her head, saying nothing.
"No wonder Carmen wanted you dead six years ago." Ethan chuckled.
What a coincidence.
Six years ago, when he returned home, he happened to overhear Carmen plotting to kill a woman named Jasmine.
Initially uninterested, he inexplicably didn't want Carmen to succeed, so he had someone rescue Jasmine.
Now, thinking back, it would have been a shame if he hadn't interfered back then.
Jasmine clenched her fists. Carmen must be terrified of any connection between her and Ethan.
Carmen undeniably played a part in cultivating Daniel’s extreme hatred for her.
"Why didn't you call Henry last night?" Ethan asked.
Jasmine lowered her head, nervously clasping her fingers. "He... has a fiancée."
Henry wouldn't call off the engagement.
That was why she gave up on Henry.
"Oh? You do have principles; you don't want to be a third party?" Ethan asked with interest.
"If you want to get engaged, please tell me in advance. I will leave voluntarily." Jasmine wasn't naive enough to think Ethan would want her for life.
He might just have a fleeting interest in her.
Ethan looked at Jasmine, remaining silent for a long time.
After a moment of silence, Ethan walked out of the bathroom. "If you can handle it, we'll head back to Silverlight City today."
The Brown family were all in Boston. If Jasmine didn't drop the case, Zelda would have to stay in jail.
"I'll take care of things at the police station; you just follow me." There was nothing else to worry about.
Jasmine followed behind Ethan in a daze, inexplicably feeling a sense of relief.
She believed Ethan could handle it.
...
On the way back to Silverlight City, Jasmine messaged Emily with her new phone, saying she was leaving because Boston wasn't safe.
Emily didn't say much; she just reminded her to stay safe.
While looking at the heavy phone in her hand, Jasmine felt a bit absent-minded.
The phone Henry bought for her was also new, so it was a pity to lose it. It cost almost ten thousand dollars.
Ethan was resting with his eyes closed, leaning back quietly in his seat.
Jasmine stole a glance at him.
This man...
How could he be so perfect? He had no flaws at all.
Quickly looking away, Jasmine gazed out of the car window.
After raising her hand to feel the last rays of the setting sun, Jasmine slowly closed her eyes.
Finally, she had taken a step in the right direction.
Still feeling weak from her ordeal, Jasmine slept the entire journey.
Perhaps considering Jasmine's condition, Ethan was willing to endure the discomfort and take a private car back instead of a plane.
Of course, Liam was the most tired.
He was both Ethan’s assistant and driver. He drove on the highway for six hours straight with only a 30-minute break mid-journey.
As glanced resentfully at the rearview mirror, Liam almost mistook the gas pedal for the brake.
Jasmine slept heavily against the car window, and Ethan, afraid she might bump her head, expressionlessly offered his arm for her to rest on.
Taking a deep breath, Liam's gaze became somewhat complicated.
He knew Ethan well and from the looks of things, he seemed genuinely interested in Jasmine.
It seemed Mr. Douglas was really looking to stir up trouble this time.
After letting out a slow sigh, Liam began pondering how he could help Ethan minimize the trouble.
But Jasmine herself was already a big problem, whether as Daniel's former fiancée, the fake heiress of the Wilson Family, or a woman who had been bullied and humiliated by nearly everyone in Silverlight City's affluent circle.
Drowsy and unaware of how long she had been sleeping, Jasmine had a long, long dream.
In the dream, she fell into a bottomless abyss, unable to breathe or cry out.
She struggled until a hand grabbed her, forcibly pulling her out of the water.
"No!"
Startled awake, Jasmine woke up in a panic while breathing rapidly.
The car had come to a stop at some point, and she was alone, lying across the back seat while covered with Ethan's clothes.
"Where's Mr. Douglas?" Jasmine asked nervously.
Liam furrowed his brow and spoke softly. "Mr. Douglas has gone back home; he asked me to bring you back."
Jasmine glanced out the window and realized they were at Richard's auto repair shop.
Jasmine clutched her hands nervously as a deep fear flashed in her eyes.
She was afraid, afraid that Ethan didn't want her. She couldn’t survive without support now. "Did Mr. Douglas say anything else?"
"He told you to rest well," Liam said, opening the door for Jasmine.
Trembling, Jasmine held onto her dress tightly, feeling humiliated as she spoke. "I... I want to see him."
She knew that if she wanted to cling tightly to Ethan as her pillar, she had to lose some of her dignity.
"Miss Wilson, you are quite a troublemaker. I hope you have some self-awareness and try not to let anyone know about your relationship with Mr. Douglas unless he needs you as a shield," Liam reminded Jasmine.
As Jasmine's grip loosened, she breathed a sigh of relief.
At least Ethan hadn't completely abandoned her.
At least, she still had a tiny bit of value.
"Mr. Douglas wants you to spend time with Justin. Don't worry about anything else. He will handle it. When he needs you, I will come to get you in advance," Liam said, handing Jasmine a cup of warm lemon water. "Mr. Douglas asked me to buy this for you."
While holding the cup of warm lemon water, Jasmine felt numb. "Isn't... Am I supposed to be his sexual partner?"
Did she not need to do anything? Was she just supposed to stay by her family's side without giving anything in return?
Jasmine blushed deeply, biting her lip and looking down in silence.
"Mr. Douglas is a clean freak. He helps you because you have your worth, but it's definitely not that kind of low-class transaction between a man and a woman," Liam said disdainfully before getting back into the car.
Did she really think Mr. Douglas was like the average man who only thought with his other head?
Jasmine's reputation in Silverlight City was almost ruined. Even if Liam didn't believe her personal life was that chaotic, the fact that she had a child was true.
Mr. Douglas wouldn't have any such impulses towards Jasmine.
At most, he was just interested in her as a person.
Subconsciously stepping back, Jasmine lowered her head in silence, feeling an overwhelming sense that she truly was inferior.
Ethan was a clean freak, so he probably found her dirty.
Yes, she had even had a child with a stranger, and the rumors about her in Silverlight City were so dirty that no one would consider her clean.
But waiting like this made her anxious.
For Justin's sake, she couldn't just sit and wait.
"Jasmine?"
After hearing a car outside, Richard walked out of the cabin.
When he saw the car and Jasmine, he looked somewhat shocked. "You're back!"
Jasmine snapped out of her thoughts and nervously looked at Richard.
She noticed that his arm was bandaged and immediately ran over in alarm. "Richard, your arm."
"It's nothing. I'm working as a bodyguard at the Ryan mansion. I took a knife for the boss," Richard said with a goofy smile. "Why are you back so late? Did you sneak back?"
While leading Jasmine inside, Richard couldn’t help but look around. "I heard that the Brown family's people are looking for you. Someone even wants to take Justin out of the kindergarten."
Richard knew Jasmine had caused trouble in Boston.
"Yeah... Zelda hit me, and I called the police. The forensic examination showed that she had caused permanent hearing damage to my left ear. She's in jail right now," Jasmine said quietly.
If she didn't compromise this time, Zelda would have to spend some time behind bars.
Although it wouldn't be long, it would be enough to make the Brown family hate her to the core.
But she hadn't done anything wrong; it was clearly Zelda's fault.
Richard's face darkened.
He saw the online videos of Jasmine being bullied. "Do they want you to drop the case?"
Jasmine nodded.
"Let's not drop it," Richard quickly packed up. "If anything, I'll take you out of Silverlight City myself. I’ll take Justin with us, and we'll go to another city to hide. Can the Brown Family still have their way then?"
Outside the window, headlights suddenly illuminated the room.
Terrified, Jasmine huddled in a corner. "Richard, have they found us?"
How could they have found her so quickly?
Richard comforted Jasmine and went out alone.
A black sedan parked outside, and a man got out of the car, his voice anxious as he asked, "Jasmine, have you returned?"
