Chapter 425 Arnold Was Kidnapped
Jasmine looked down and said nothing.
"The car is already full," Evelina also warned Willian not to stay here.
"Go ride in Alex's car!" Willian snorted. "Our family is going home together; you don't follow us."
"You're really shameless." Evelina was truly amused by his audacity.
Willian clearly had no intention of getting out of the car.
Cordelia felt unlucky; there was no way she would share a car with Willian. She turned to Arnold. "Where's your car?"
Arnold, a bit excited, pointed not far away. "I'll take you!"
Cordelia nodded.
Arnold almost burst out laughing but restrained himself as he accompanied Cordelia to his car, signaling the driver to leave with his eyes.
The driver, who had been with Arnold for many years, understood immediately.
With a grin, he handed the keys to Arnold. "Mr. Sanders, you drive. I have a stomachache and need to go to the restroom."
Arnold looked at the driver with disdain and opened the passenger door for Cordelia.
Cordelia regretted it a bit, but since she had already agreed, she couldn't turn back now.
Once in his car, Cordelia glared expressionlessly at the still-smiling Arnold. "What's your purpose in coming to Silverlight City this time?"
"Cooperation and development. The Sanders Group's strategic goals align with the Cunningham Group's," Arnold said truthfully.
He wouldn't go easy on Cordelia in competition because if he deliberately let her win, Cordelia would ignore him even more.
He had to work hard to get her to notice him.
Cordelia said nothing; it was indeed business competition.
"Cordelia, I..." Arnold wanted to say something.
Cordelia interrupted him. "Back then, you used unscrupulous means to compete, hiding your identity to stay by my side as a bodyguard. I haven't settled that score with you yet."
Arnold nervously gripped the steering wheel. "Cordelia, you know my situation. I had no choice. My dad's first test for me was to stay by your side."
Arnold had explained countless times that he didn't do it on purpose and never expected to fall in love with Cordelia.
Back then, he was barely alive when the elder Sanders took him in. He said that if Arnold wanted to inherit everything from the Sanders Group and gain their approval, he had to pass their test.
At that time, he was solely focused on surviving.
"No need to explain. I lost that time." Cordelia's voice was hoarse and low.
She lost, utterly and completely.
That time, Arnold won, not only in the project but also by faking his death.
Cordelia let out a sarcastic laugh.
She always thought he was dead, like a fool, like a joke, breaking up with Willian, going crazy, even contemplating divorce.
But when she saw Arnold, the new president of the Sanders Group, her competitor, at the bidding site, she felt betrayed once again.
If half of her depression was due to her daughter being taken away and Willian's betrayal, the other half was because of Guadalupe's betrayal.
No, it should be Arnold.
Seeing Arnold in a suit across from her, she realized her defeat was absolute. Her life, she felt, was nothing but a cruel joke.
Maybe a woman like her should cut off all feelings and never suffer the pain of love.
"Cordelia, you've been avoiding me for so many years. I've always wanted to explain. Back then, it was because..." Arnold's voice was a bit anxious.
Back then, he just wanted to be worthy of Cordelia.
During the time he was by her side, he even refused the so-called test from the elder Sanders. He didn't agree to return to the Sanders family; he would rather stay by Cordelia's side as a bodyguard for the rest of his life.
But Willian hurt Cordelia time and again, and those around her were always eyeing her with ill intentions. As a bodyguard, his ability to protect her was limited; he couldn't take care of her all the time.
Moreover, during that time, Cordelia discovered her daughter had been switched and went mad, falling into a deep depression.
And someone was always lurking in the shadows, trying to kill Cordelia.
When Cordelia was kidnapped, he took a bullet for her and fell off the ship.
That time, he thought he was going to die, but the Sanders Senior saved him in the end.
He really didn't mean to deceive her or not look for her.
He was in a coma in the hospital for three whole months and bedridden for half a year before he could get up and slowly recover.
At that time, he knew he had no time left. He wanted to help Cordelia find her daughter and protect her, so he had to return to the Sanders family first.
But the moment Cordelia saw him at the bidding meeting, her eyes were dead silent. His heart ached, but he couldn't explain it to her in front of so many people.
Later, he tried to explain to Cordelia countless times, wanting to see her, but she refused to meet him.
After that, Cordelia deliberately avoided him, and his chances became even fewer.
For all these years, he had been in a constant state of anticipation, forever waiting.
Waiting for the day when Cordelia might find it in her heart to forgive him.
Yet, it appeared that such a hope was nothing more than a faint glimmer.
"Your reasons have nothing to do with me," Cordelia interrupted in a low voice.
"Cordelia, what are you afraid of? My explanation, or..." Arnold was a bit anxious, probably too eager for Cordelia to forgive him.
In a moment of inattention, a car from behind crashed heavily into them.
At the moment of the accident, Arnold instinctively reached out to protect Cordelia, hitting the steering wheel himself and losing consciousness.
"Arnold!" Cordelia was also terrified, her vision darkening.
The glass had already cut her cheek, and Cordelia called out Arnold's name in fear.
Arnold's consciousness was fading, but subconsciously, he still protected Cordelia. "Call the police."
Something was wrong.
This was an intersection with traffic lights, and the car behind was going too fast.
Arnold feared those people were after Cordelia.
"Cordelia, stay in the car, don't move."
Arnold's voice was hoarse, and he fought against the dizziness, pushing open the car door and falling out.
But those people weren't after Cordelia; they were after him.
The leader hit Arnold on the head with a club.
Arnold couldn't hold on and fell to the ground.
Cordelia screamed in terror, "Arnold!"
She watched helplessly as Arnold was dragged into the car by those people.
His face was covered in blood, and he shook his head at Cordelia.
He could still manage a smile.
At least those people were after him, not Cordelia.
"Arnold!" Cordelia fell out of the car, frantically calling the police.
"Arnold," she memorized the license plate number, her voice hoarse as she called out Arnold's name.
'Arnold, the president of the Sanders Group, was kidnapped in Silverlight City.'
'The Douglas family?'
'Impossible. This family would be eager to collaborate with Arnold now; it couldn't be them.'
'But Arnold had no rivals in Silverlight City.' she pondered and couldn't guess who it was.
