Chapter 601: Daniel Left the Douglas family

Audrey was fuming at Aleah's antics, glaring at their retreating backs. "Ms. Willer, can you believe her nerve?"

Betty just waved it off. "Let's head home."

Let Aleah keep doing her thing.

Aleah wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, easy to manipulate, which was why Sophia kept her around.

Aleah was gullible, perfect for a sucker like Richard.

If Richard wanted intel, he'd have to squeeze it out of Aleah. Hopefully, he'd get something useful.

Betty picked up Ethan's call. He asked, "I heard you sent Richard to cozy up to Aleah. Are you putting him in danger?"

"Isn't it all for you guys?" Betty smirked. "Ethan, I'm even willing to risk Richard for this score."

"The Douglas Group and the Raymond Group's jewelry projects for this year are all yours," Ethan said, laying it on thick.

Betty grinned. "Classic Ethan. Since you're so generous, I need to speed things up. Richard found out from Aleah that Sophia and Howard are indeed in cahoots. You were right; Howard's got a backup plan."

When Sophia was in Muskow, she raised a bunch of mercenaries to handle various jobs.

Howard hit up Sophia because he wanted the "weapons" and "blades" she had.

When Howard was in a tight spot, he'd definitely use Sophia's crew.

Richard's current gig with Sophia was to figure out these people, track their moves, and keep Ethan in the loop to prevent any surprises.

Howard's top targets were definitely Claire and Ethan, all for his lover's kid, Bradley.

"Is Richard's cover solid?" Ethan doubted Richard's ability to blend in.

"Richard's ex-special forces. Don't sell him short, okay?"

Ethan chuckled. "Then I'll wait for your good news."

Ethan was doing everything to keep Jasmine and himself safe.

As long as he was okay, Jasmine would be too.

If something happened to him, he'd make sure Jasmine could stay strong.

After failing to get shares from Howard, Daniel crashed in the Douglas Group's conference room. Feeling everyone's judgment the next morning, he turned off his phone and holed up in a hotel for a full day and night.

When he finally stepped out, it was raining in San Francisco.

Rain mixed with snow, and the snowflakes melted as they hit the ground.

His life was a mess, with the only bright spot being when he was with Jasmine.

During that time, he was genuinely happy, surrounded by admiring friends and dating Jasmine, the school's top student and star. His vanity and pride were at their peak.

He'd sit in the audience, proudly saying, "That's my girlfriend," as Jasmine dazzled on stage. He'd wait for her offstage, holding her hand amidst the envy of others. He even felt confident enough to face Ethan without feeling pathetic.

But his self-esteem was paper-thin. Everyone thought he dumped Jasmine, but in reality, Jasmine dumped him. Losing her felt like losing all his shine.

His time with Jasmine was like being the moon, shining with the sun's light but forgetting it was just a reflection. He destroyed his own sun, dimming her light.

"Sir." Seeing Daniel enter the HR department with a gloomy face, the HR manager got a bit nervous, not knowing what Daniel's purpose was this time.

"I'm here to resign." Daniel came to handle his resignation, even though his position and status didn't need to resign formally, Daniel still came.

Perhaps it was to put a period and exclamation mark on his past life.

"Mrs. Douglas won't agree. She's been looking for you for a long time. She called me several times last night. She must be very anxious." The HR manager shook her head, not daring to make a decision.

Daniel frowned. "I've already decided. She has no right to stop me."

He would no longer let Claire control his life.

After submitting his resignation, Daniel left directly.

He had had enough and was utterly exhausted.

Just as he walked out of the Douglas Group, he ran into Howard, bringing Bradley into the company.

How ironic, Howard really took him everywhere he went.

Howard had indeed given all his fatherly love and favoritism to Bradley.

In essence, both he and Ethan were pitiful.

They were pitiful people who had never experienced fatherly love.

And Bradley, undoubtedly, was lucky. He received all of Howard's limited but entire love.

Howard didn't even glance at Daniel; he just snorted coldly and walked past him with Bradley.

Everyone thought Daniel was pitiful; some laughed at him, some took the opportunity to mock him, which was more painful for Daniel than death.

Clenching his fists tightly, Daniel's voice was hoarse as he spoke, "In your eyes, what am I?"

He mustered the courage to ask the question he had never dared to ask all these years.

Howard stopped and turned to look at Daniel. "Hmph, a disgrace."

Daniel gave a bitter smile but felt a bit relieved. Saying nothing, he turned and walked away. He knew he was a disgrace, while Bradley was his pride.

Even Howard, who didn't like Ethan, had to admit Ethan's excellence. But Daniel? He'd always been a joke. From the moment he followed Claire to the Douglas family, trying to impress, he became a complete joke.

Walking out of the company, Daniel wandered, not knowing where to go. After a while, a car stopped by the roadside, the window rolled down, and it was Claire with a grim face. "Where do you think you're going? Get in the car!"

Daniel stood still, silent for a long time before speaking, "Mom, I'm not going back. I've already resigned from the Douglas Group, and I won't be going back."

Claire's face turned livid with anger. She glanced at the driver and the person in the passenger seat.

The bodyguard in the passenger seat got out, pressed Daniel down, and shoved him into the car.

Daniel was furious. "Mom! You no longer have the right to interfere in my life."

Claire slapped Daniel. "I'm your mother! I gave birth to you; your life is mine, and you have to listen to me!"

"We haven't lost yet. Once Ethan and Howard are dead, I'll kill that bitch's son, and the Douglas Group will be yours." Claire gritted her teeth.

Daniel's eyes flickered as he looked at Claire. She was crazy, truly crazy.
