Chapter 804 Early Stage of Nolan's Cancer?
"I want to marry Amelia now, but she won't marry me," Nolan frowned. "She seems to hate me."
Otherwise, she wouldn't have come to Sunrise City and had a one-night stand with someone else, resulting in a child.
It felt like she was deliberately trying to get back at him.
"Mr. Cunningham, is Miss Carter's child not yours?" Silas asked cautiously.
Nolan didn't say anything.
Amelia said it wasn't.
"Mr. Cunningham, you should think it through, being a father to someone else's child..." It wouldn't sound good if this got out. Silas sighed.
Nolan remained silent.
Back then, Ethan didn't know Justin was his child, but he still married Jasmine.
Ethan once said that he loved Jasmine.
Nolan always thought he wouldn't fall in love with anyone.
Love seemed so distant to him.
But when he heard Amelia was in trouble, he panicked and wanted to be by her side instantly.
During that journey, he was constantly worried and scared, feelings he had never experienced before.
Even during the time Amelia was away, he felt like he was possessed, always thinking she was still at home, and that the little cat was still there too.
"Mr. Cunningham, just make sure you won't regret it in the future," Silas said softly.
Nolan took a deep breath and stood up abruptly. "I know what to do now."
He entered the hospital room and looked at Amelia lying there, not speaking. "Amelia, let's talk."
She ignored him.
Nolan, feeling helpless, walked over and sat down next to her.
Amelia turned over, her back facing him.
He had no choice but to get up, walk to the bedside, and force her to look at him.
The moment he saw her face, Nolan felt a sharp pain in his chest. She was crying, her face covered in tears.
"I..." Nolan was momentarily at a loss for words but eventually spoke. "The public opinion can't be suppressed."
Amelia had guessed that someone was deliberately stirring things up behind the scenes.
"There's another way," Nolan said softly.
She knew Nolan was capable, he just needed to find the person behind the manipulation.
But it seemed Nolan had conditions. "What is it?" she asked.
"Marry me," Nolan said in a deep voice.
Amelia was stunned, her body stiffening.
She never expected Nolan to come up with this solution, which wouldn't cause much harm to the other party, but it would come at a significant cost to herself. Clearly, with his status, a warning to the other party would suffice.
"What are you trying to do?" Amelia cried out in frustration.
"Marry me, and I will publicly announce it. You can say the child is mine," Nolan felt guilty towards Amelia. They should have had a child together, but because of his stubbornness, they lost that child.
He should make it up to Amelia.
"That's not necessary!" Amelia's emotions were agitated. "Nolan, even if I die out there, I don't need you to pretend to be a good person."
He's the one who caused her to end up like this, so on what grounds can he now speak so righteously about these things?
"Amelia," Nolan was at a loss. He knew it was meaningless to realize his mistake now.
He had already caused Amelia irreparable harm.
"I'll give you time to think about it," Nolan said softly. "You can answer me after you've thought it through."
"Mr. Cunningham, what's your purpose in doing this? You said you wouldn't marry me. What made you change your mind?" Amelia asked, her eyes red and her breathing rapid as she looked at Nolan.
Nolan avoided Amelia's gaze, feeling a sharp pain in his chest.
He turely regretted it.
But it seemed hard to make amends. "You've heard about the Cunningham Group and the Long family planning a marriage alliance. I don't want to marry Elaine. You need my help now. We can each get what we need. You can avoid public pressure by becoming my wife, and I can use you to avoid this marriage alliance."
Nolan lied. He didn't know what else to do to make Amelia lower her guard.
"So, you can think it through before answering me. You can set any conditions you want." He frowned at Amelia, trying hard to look serious.
Amelia let out a sarcastic laugh.
As expected, Nolan still only had Fiona in his heart, so that Elaine was just a pitiful woman.
"You can agree to all my conditions?" Amelia clenched her hands, looking at Nolan with hatred.
Nolan nodded. "Yes."
"Alright, then hand over the company to your brother, don't take a money from the Cunningham family, and leave the Cunningham family for a year. If you do that, I'll agree to a fake marriage with you."
Amelia hated how Nolan acts so superior, just because he tought he's better than everyone else based on his abilities.
What if he had nothing?
What if he had to worry about basic necessities? What would he do then?
Nolan was stunned for a moment, looking at Amelia.
"Are you scared? Mr. Cunningham, who is used to being high and mighty, suddenly becoming a poor man, you wouldn't be able to adapt for even a day, let alone a year," Amelia said with a sarcastic smile.
"Okay." Nolan was silent for a long time but eventually agreed.
Amelia was stunned, thinking she had misheard.
"Give me a few days to handle the company's affairs and make the handover. I'll come back to be with you," Nolan said, checking the time. "Rest assured in the hospital, no one will disturb you. I'll leave Silas here to handle things until I return."
Amelia sat on the bed, bewildered, thinking Nolan had gone mad. "Remember my conditions, don't take a single penny, don't bring anything from the Cunningham family. If you can't do it..."
"I can do it." Nolan knew what Amelia wanted to do—to leave him penniless and force him to rely on hard work for his living, which would be a punishment for him.
Amelia regretted it a bit, wondering if she should have just told Nolan to die.
Silverlight City, the Cunningham Group.
Edward looked resentfully at the pile of contracts and project files.
Was Nolan sleepwalking lately? How could someone who always worked so hard allow himself to be so unprofessional?
"Is Nolan sick recently?" Edward asked, puzzled.
Secretary Jerry Nelson nodded. "It seems Mr. Cunningham hasn't been himself lately. I saw his medical report the other day, and it didn't look good."
Edward tensed up. "What's wrong?"
"Mr. Cunningham has been suffering from insomnia frequently, so Silas arranged for a comprehensive medical check-up. Silas cried when he got the report, saying something about early-stage cancer." Jerry replied.Edward became nervous instantly, looking worriedly at Jerry. "Nolan didn't say anything?"
"Mr. Cunningham probably doesn't want anyone to know. I asked Silas later, and he denied it, saying it was a relative of his with early-stage cancer. But I think something's off." Jerry was genuinely concerned about Nolan's health.
Edward was a bit panicked. "I understand."
He needed to inform the family.
So, Edward created a Facebook group chat, excluding Nolan: [Is everyone here? Nolan hasn't been himself lately.]
"
Edgar chimed in: [Indeed, he actually asked me how I was doing the other day, when I planned to settle down, and if I could take over the company.]
Edward was stuned: [Is he already making arrangements for his affairs?]
Jasmine, Ethan and Edgar were all confused.
Edward explained: [Jerry told me today that Nolan's medical check-up results might be bad, he might get early-stage cancer. Don't let Mom know, Nolan is hiding it from all of us.]
The group chat fell silent instantly.
At that moment, Nolan walked in, having taken a red-eye flight, not sleeping well, and feeling heartache for Amelia, so he looked pale.
As soon as he entered, Edward stood up. "Nolan, how are you? Do you feel unwell anywhere?"
Nolan had a headache and rubbed his temples. "I have a bit of a headache. Sit down, I need to discuss something with you."
Edward's nerves were on edge.
Nolan didn't know how to start. Edward was the most steady one in the family, but his younger brothers were used to being free. What if he refused to manage the company?
