Chapter 104 Ethan Rushed to Find Jasmine Overnight
Jasmine, breathing heavily, looked at Henry with a stubborn and determined gaze. "Ethan is not that kind of person."
"Jasmine!" Henry thought Jasmine would be shocked and disappointed, but he never expected her first reaction would be to defend Ethan. "You've only known him for a few days. How well do you really know him? For Ethan to be in the position he is today, what kind of person do you think he is?"
"That's Mr. Douglas's personal business. It has nothing to do with me." Jasmine felt uneasy; she felt uncomfortable when someone talked about Ethan that way.
Regardless of Ethan's actions, they had nothing to do with her; they were just in a business relationship.
But why did it have to be Harper, and why did it have to involve the Brown family?
She just didn't want to get involved with anyone from the Brown family ever again.
"Jasmine, don't get involved with Ethan. He's not like me. At least my feelings for you are genuine; I won't use you. But Ethan, he could bring you to ruin." Henry let go of Jasmine, warning her in a serious tone.
Jasmine lowered her head and said nothing.
Henry impatiently tugged at his tie. Jasmine was just that kind of woman; she was very stubborn.
If she didn't suffer with Ethan and Stellar Enterprises, she wouldn't turn back.
…
New York.
Ethan stood by the hotel's French window with his brows slightly furrowed.
Did Jasmine just decline his call?
Given Jasmine's temperament, it was impossible for her to decline his call without any response unless something had happened.
"Check if something has happened on Jasmine's end, ask the housekeeper if she has returned home, and also check with the company," Ethan said in a deep voice, instructing Liam to investigate.
Liam sighed, knowing that Jasmine was trouble.
After making a call, Liam walked over to Ethan with a serious expression. "The housekeeper said Jasmine hasn't returned home. The company mentioned that Jasmine got into a conflict with Serena at the office entrance today. Jasmine pushed Serena, causing her to faint."
Jasmine was becoming more and more reckless in her actions. How could she openly push Serena, who was already ill?
"Do you believe it?" Ethan sat heavily on the sofa, his voice low. "Did the Wilson family’s people come looking for trouble with Jasmine?"
"Evan took Serena away. The Wilson family approached Carmen and Mr. Howard, saying that someone like Jasmine can't stay at Stellar Enterprises," Liam sighed, knowing that so many people were against Jasmine staying at Stellar Enterprises; he wondered if she could hold on.
"Check the video footage at the company entrance, and send it to me. Who did Jasmine leave with?" Ethan didn't believe Jasmine would intentionally harm Serena.
"Jasmine left with Henry. She should have gone back to Boston," Liam glanced at Ethan and spoke again. "Mr. Douglas, I've said it before, Justin is Henry's son. There's no way Jasmine and Henry are unrelated; this will bring you a lot of trouble."
Ethan pondered. "Jasmine will definitely rush back to Silverlight City before work tomorrow. If she left with Henry in such a hurry, something must have happened in Boston that is causing Jasmine so much concern. Look into that woman named Emily."
Liam hesitated to speak. Why was Mr. Douglas focusing on Jasmine? It didn't make sense.
But Ethan had given the order, so he had to comply.
As expected, after calling the club, Liam found out that Emily had been in an accident. She was pushed down the stairs and was bleeding heavily. She lost the baby and almost lost her life.
"Mr. Douglas... Emily was pushed down the stairs while pregnant. She lost the baby. They couldn't save her uterus, but her life was spared."
Ethan was momentarily stunned. He furrowed his brows as he checked the time.
Was Jasmine pleading with Henry for Emily's sake?
Clearly, Jasmine didn't fully trust him, so she didn't inform him immediately when this happened.
"Let’s go to Boston," Ethan stood up, grabbing his coat and heading out.
Liam was shocked. "Mr. Douglas! You have a meeting tomorrow afternoon. Why go to Boston now?"
Even though New York wasn’t far from Boston, did Ethan really have to go to Boston at this late hour for a woman?
"And besides, since Jasmine went with Henry, Henry will definitely help Jasmine handle these matters," Liam hurriedly added.
Ethan stepped into the elevator.
"She is now my legal wife. Do you think I should let her owe favors to other men?" Ethan said in a low voice.
"But that's Justin's father; what does that have to do..." Liam was so flustered that he stopped speaking. When Ethan made a decision, no one could change it.
…
Boston Medical Center.
"Go in; I'll wait for you here," Henry told Jasmine as he went to the smoking area to light a cigarette.
Jasmine looked uneasy as she reached out for her phone.
Furrowing his brows, Henry asked, "Want to contact Ethan?"
"He's my boss..." Jasmine explained.
"It's after work hours now." Henry felt a twinge of jealousy. He wouldn't be concerned if it were any other man, but when it came to Ethan, Henry's nerves were on edge.
"What right do you have to... control me?" Jasmine's eyes reddened with anger, but she dared not offend Henry.
"Jasmine, don't test my patience," Henry's voice was low.
Jasmine knew Henry was upset.
In reality, Jasmine was afraid of Henry. The incident of being raped six years ago left her with deep psychological scars, making her fear Henry's anger.
With her head bowed, Jasmine entered the hospital room, thinking about how to explain things to Ethan.
Inside the hospital room, Emily looked pale as she stared blankly out the window.
"Jasmine," Chloe was still there. Her eyes were very red.
It was evident that Chloe was a good girl; at least she was by Emily's side.
When Chloe called out to Jasmine, Emily snapped out of her daze, turning to look at Jasmine, causing her emotions to resurface.
"Emily." Jasmine walked to her bedside and reached out to her.
Emily didn't say anything and just hugged Jasmine tightly.
After three years of being together in prison, even without words, they understood each other's pain.
It was a silent cry and scream, a feeling of helplessness, when both the soul and body was shattered, leaving them feeling powerless.
"How's everything in Silverlight City?" Emily asked softly.
Jasmine nodded.
Both of them tacitly avoided mentioning the uterus and the baby.
"I've joined Stellar Enterprises; I’m still in the probation period. I have to rush back tonight; I still have three days of assessment. If I pass, I'll be Ethan's personal assistant," Jasmine whispered.
Emily took a deep breath. "Jasmine... you need to hold onto Ethan."
Jasmine nodded.
"You need to climb up and reach heights that others can't touch," Emily's voice was somewhat weak.
Jasmine remained silent.
"Jasmine, once I'm discharged and sort things out here, I'll come to Silverlight City to find you. I want a fresh start in a new environment," Emily said hoarsely while smiling.
"Okay, I'll wait for you in Silverlight City," Jasmine patted Emily's back.
"Emily..."
Emily wanted to say something, but her gaze fell on the man entering the room.
Jasmine also turned to look; it was the manager from the club.
Jasmine had seen him before. He was good-looking, but she hadn't expected him to be so irresponsible.
"Emily, the club was really busy; that's why I only have time to come see you now," the man said softly. "How are you doing?"
Although he knew everything, he pretended not to.
With a serious expression, Emily spoke, "I lost the baby, and my uterus couldn't be saved."
Since he was acting ignorant, she decided to speak plainly.
"Emily... take care. Here's thirty thousand dollars... Last time you asked me about our relationship, but I felt it wasn't quite the appropriate time to answer. My mom doesn't approve either," the man placed the money on the bed and turned to leave.
"You destroyed a child and a woman, and you think offering her thirty thousand dollars will fix it? You're incredibly irresponsible," Chloe said angrily.
Jasmine looked at the man, feeling nothing but irony.
This was reality.
"It's not my fault she fell down the stairs, and after losing her uterus, she can't have children anymore..." the man muttered under his breath.
