Chapter 958 Ethan, the Wife Guy

Ethan leaned back in his chair, staring at Jasmine with bewilderment. He hadn't done anything wrong that morning, yet here was his wife, publicly announcing their divorce.

Lily's expression darkened, a cold smile forming on her lips. "Mr. Douglas, we're all witnesses here. If you actually go through with a divorce at this critical moment..."

All eyes turned to Ethan, awaiting his response.

Ethan looked at Jasmine and said casually, "Darling, you can't possibly want to divorce me just because I forgot to add sesame seeds to your soy milk this morning. That seems a bit unfair."

Jasmine sighed inwardly. Even if they weren't actually going to divorce, they could at least put on a show for the media and everyone present. She truly didn't want to drag him down with her family's troubles.

"I promise tonight's dinner will be spectacular—just please don't make me sleep in the guest room," Ethan continued, publicly displaying his affection.

He wanted everyone to know unequivocally that divorcing Jasmine wasn't an option.

"We'll discuss this at home," Jasmine replied with resignation.

"Well, it seems Mr. Douglas has no intention of divorcing," Lily remarked, unable to hide her satisfaction.

Ethan stood up and faced Lily directly. "Don't celebrate too soon..."

Lily scoffed but remained silent. She was eagerly waiting to see the downfall of both the Cunningham family and Ethan.

"We will not be divorcing, and the Cunningham family's situation will not affect me," Ethan declared firmly. "The innocent will be vindicated. When the truth comes to light and the Cunningham family is cleared of all wrongdoing, I hope none of you will regret your actions today."

His message was clear: opportunism was one thing, but they shouldn't go too far. They could kick someone when they were down, but they'd better be prepared for when the Cunninghams recovered.

Jasmine felt touched. She smiled and took Ethan's hand.

"Go home and make dinner—and don't forget the black sesame in the soy milk this time," Edward said with a smirk. When it came to public displays of affection, Ethan was unmatched.

Vincent was grinning from ear to ear. That was Ethan for you.

However, with the project decision imminent and the Cunningham Group unlikely to clear its name in time, both they and the Raymond Group might be eliminated from contention.

If that happened, Vincent wouldn't hesitate to seize the opportunity.

"Vincent," Lily whispered, "Ethan is completely devoted to his wife and would never divorce Jasmine. If we create just a little more trouble for them, making the Cunningham family too preoccupied to focus on the bid... the project will definitely be ours."

"Of course," Vincent smiled. "The Powell family should go ahead and compete. I won't interfere."

Whether they could win would depend entirely on their own abilities.

Lily hugged Vincent gratefully. "Thank you!"

With Vincent stepping aside, Lily's Powell Corporation would surely secure the project.

As she embraced Vincent, Lily watched Jasmine and Ethan leave, thinking smugly, 'Does Jasmine really think she's the only one who's loved? I've found someone who loves me too. Vincent is every bit Ethan's equal.'

Later at Connor's clinic, Connor checked the time and prepared to leave work.

"Dr. Hawthorne, you're so eager to leave these days," his nurse remarked cheerfully. "You used to work overtime so much, I worried about you. Now you're so prompt about leaving—I'm happy for you!"

"What's so exciting about me leaving on time?" Connor asked with a bemused smile.

"Dr. Hawthorne, have you noticed you're smiling more lately?" the nurse said excitedly. "You should smile more often—it looks so good on you!"

Connor cleared his throat. "Do I?"

"Absolutely!" The nurse narrowed her eyes. "Dr. Hawthorne, are you seeing someone?"

"Definitely not," Connor replied.

The nurse sighed with disappointment. "Oh well..."

"Connor, let's go! The movie's about to start—it's the last showing!" Tom called from the doorway.

"Coming." Connor replied, methodically changing his clothes.

Tom, impatient as ever, grabbed Connor's wrist and pulled him along. At the elevator, they ran into Vincent and Ethan.

"Here you are, meeting at my place again?" Connor asked resignedly.

Ethan nodded, his mood visibly tense.

"You two keep coming here so often, my nurse thinks you're dating. Be careful—avoid suspicion," Connor remarked casually.

Ethan and Vincent both glanced at Tom's hand still gripping Connor's wrist. "Practice what you preach."

Before Connor could respond, Tom dragged him away.

Ethan and Vincent entered the therapy room.

Vincent leaned against the wall. "Are you really withdrawing? A fake divorce with Jasmine wouldn't be the worst idea."

"Real or fake, neither is an option," Ethan frowned.

"Choosing love over career," Vincent rolled his eyes.

Ethan lay back on the therapy bed. "The Murray family's project bid has been preserved. The Murray Group has changed hands, and Lily's team will lower their guard. You've acquired Murray Group shares and can operate behind the scenes. Through the Murray Group, you can secure this project."

Ethan was clearly keeping the benefits within their circle.

Vincent raised an eyebrow. "You're really willing to give this up? If this project goes to me... your losses won't be insignificant."

Ethan looked at Vincent. "When I convinced Lyanna to sell her shares to you, you should have understood that I don't consider you an outsider. Vincent, we've always been family."

Vincent's posture stiffened slightly. "Ethan, don't emotionally manipulate me."

"Besides, Avery still holds some Murray Group shares. She's Edgar's wife—we're all family," Ethan added with a smirk.

Vincent ground his teeth. "Ethan, you're too calculating..."

Ethan's smile widened. "So it's settled. Just hold out a bit longer with Lily."

"Easy for you to say from the sidelines... I'd like to see you do it," Vincent retorted.

"I'm a married man; you're single. You take one for the team," Ethan said, barely containing his laughter as he headed for the door. "I need to go home and make peace with my wife—she threatened to divorce me today."

"Get lost..." Vincent cursed, angrily lying down on the hypnotherapy bed.

After much consideration, Vincent decided he should buy this therapy bed for himself. But for some reason, it suddenly seemed ineffective. Lying there, he felt more awake than ever, his thoughts drifting to Selene and how they'd shared this narrow space.

Had he gone crazy? Or was Ethan getting to him?

At Ethan's home that evening, he returned with a large bouquet of bellflowers.

Jasmine was sitting on the couch, ready for a serious conversation.

"Honey..." Ethan began.

"Ethan, we need to talk," Jasmine said, standing up.

"No divorce," Ethan immediately declared.

"I wasn't actually suggesting a real divorce..." Jasmine sighed.

"Doesn't matter. Real or fake, it's not happening," Ethan said, placing the flowers on the table and embracing her. "We agreed that whoever mentions divorce first has to accept the other's punishment. You brought it up, so you need to apologize to me."
