Chapter 662 Jasmine Could Never Forgive Evan
Jasmine glanced at Evan but didn't respond.
Evan's harm to her could be let go but not forgotten and certainly not be forgiven.
Keeping their distance from each other was the best choice.
"Mr. Cunningham, thanks a lot this time," a team member whispered, noticing Jasmine was in a bad mood and didn't dare to say more.
"The Everhart family decided to invest in LY and the Douglas family, but this is just the first round of financing. The difficulty will increase in the future. Even if Deborah doesn't secure the Everhart Group's investment, she won't lack other investments. We still need to be vigilant," Jasmine said in a deep voice, reminding everyone not to let their guard down.
"No news from Ian?" Jasmine had been wondering why Ian hadn't made any moves this time.
"He's smart, choosing to avoid the limelight." Betty walked over and left with Jasmine. "This time, Evan finally showed some conscience."
Jasmine said nothing.
Betty checked the time. "Ian is experienced in IPOs in the Muskow mainboard market. He deeply understands this area. Rather than competing for mainboard market financing, he should stand out in the GEM."
Jasmine paused, stopping in her tracks. "So, Ian's retreat to the secondary market is a strategy to advance by retreating?"
Deborah was smart, but she didn't use her intelligence on the right things. She believed she had the support of the Hawthorne Group, so she wouldn't choose to retreat or even consider it.
Jasmine was determined to succeed without failure. If both the LY and Douglas family projects could secure financing, she planned to merge the two.
But Ian chose to separate the SHC Group's project.
His intelligence lay in knowing how to go with the flow in adversity rather than against it.
Sometimes, going down didn't mean failure but another form of success.
Overall, Jasmine's biggest opponent now wasn't Deborah but Ian.
Ian had blocked Jasmine's retreat.
It could be said that Deborah's competition blocked Jasmine's way forward, making her narrowly win, but Ian cut off her retreat.
That meant she would have no way out if Jasmine didn't achieve results or if they were unsatisfactory before the second round.
She could only move forward, never backward.
"Don't worry. I believe in you." Betty encouraged Jasmine.
Jasmine felt uncertain.
If Ethan were here, she wouldn't care about having a retreat.
But Ethan wasn't here, and she held not only LY but also the Douglas Group.
She was afraid that when Ethan returned, she would have made a mess of the company.
Watching Jasmine and Betty leave, Evan sat back in his wheelchair, feeling dejected.
"Sir, Mr. Everhart called you," the assistant whispered.
Evan glanced at his phone and answered the call.
Alex asked, "Is everything taken care of?"
Evan responded, "Yes."
"Can you call your mom for me and say something nice? She's not just on a trip to relax; she's back in Maple Grove, preparing materials for a divorce," Alex said anxiously over the phone.
Evelina still cared about Evan, and Alex hoped Evan could help him.
Evan's fingers tightened around the phone, his knuckles turning pale, but he smiled. "Dad."
He had called him dad before, but not often.
Today, he said it naturally, "You made a mistake, and you have to face the consequences. But mom is reasonable. Once the obstacles between you are gone, she'll come back to you."
"Evan?" Alex was stunned, feeling inexplicably flustered. "Is everything resolved with Jasmine?"
Alex quickly changed the subject.
"Yes, it's done," Evan said, standing up with the help of his arms and motioning for his assistant, Micah Bennett, not to help him.
He struggled to move his injured leg, taking one step at a time.
"Evan, your mom and I were just joking around. We'll be back soon. Have you been eating well these past few days?" Alex asked nervously, feeling uneasy.
Evan said nothing, walking into the elevator. "Dad, you and mom have fun. I'm getting in the elevator, so I'll hang up now."
After hanging up, Evan stood quietly in the elevator.
Micah followed nervously, afraid of losing him. "Sir, please sit for a while."
Evan glanced at the wheelchair, frowning, looking very displeased.
He didn't want to be confined to the wheelchair any longer.
"Walking is good as well." Micah quickly changed the subject when Evan didn't respond.
Evan remained silent, moving his steps alone.
People around them cast strange looks, and some even gossiped in the lobby.
"Evan is said to be Alex's illegitimate son. But unfortunately, his leg is injured, and now he's a cripple."
"He looks quite handsome. But it's a pity he's a cripple."
"A cripple will have a hard time finding a partner in the future."
Outside, Jasmine and Betty were waiting for the driver to bring the car around and heard the gossip.
Jasmine glanced back but said nothing.
Betty also looked at Evan, frowning, thinking he deserved it as a punishment.
What he did to Jasmine was indeed unforgivable.
Jasmine looked at the people around her and spoke in a deep voice, "What matters to you is how others are? Mind your own business. Some people are not as good as others but always focus on others' flaws."
The people were stunned for a moment and quickly ran away with their heads down.
Behind them, Evan struggled to get into the car alone, his eyes always on Jasmine.
The current Jasmine was completely different from before.
Compared to the past, she not only regained her radiance but also became more resilient and invincible.
In the past, Jasmine, no matter how beautiful, seemed like a rose in a greenhouse, unable to withstand the wind and rain.
But now, she was covered in thorns, looking like she didn't need anyone's protection anymore.
She had Betty, Richard, and three brothers from the Cunningham family by her side.
He, the ridiculous fake brother with dirty thoughts, indeed had no place anymore.
"Mr. Wilson, should we go home or..." Micah asked softly.
"Stop the car," Evan suddenly said, asking Micah to stop.
Micah looked confused but stopped the car.
"Get out. I want to try driving," Evan said and got out.
"But." Micah hesitated, wanting to refuse, but Evan had already pulled him out of the car.
Evan sat in the driver's seat, struggling to press the brake.
His right leg was injured, which greatly affected his ability to drive.
Micah quickly ran to the passenger seat, wanting to follow, but Evan drove off immediately.
Micah panicked and quickly called Alex.
"Sir, Mr. Wilson insisted on driving himself today and took the car!"
Evan was clearly off.
Since helping Jasmine secure the first round of investment today, he had been acting strangely.
