Chapter 119 Ethan Demanded Jasmine Write a Reflection
Daria's face turned ashen in an instant.
"Jasmine!"
Jasmine stepped back with her phone in hand while smiling at Daria. "Ms. Daria, it's a real pleasure to become colleagues."
Daria's hands were trembling.
Jasmine had outmaneuvered her, step by step, and now she'd spilled about Carmen's spy placed near Ethan.
Knowing Carmen's nature, there was no way she'd let this slide.
She had no choice but to be at Jasmine's mercy.
‘This woman...was genuinely terrifying.’
"Our Mr. Douglas looks after every employee well."
No sooner had Jasmine spoken than the police walked in. "Jasmine? We received a report that you're suspected of assault. Please come with us."
Jasmine glanced at Daria, her expression calm.
The onlookers outside the door were all mid-to-senior level staff from the company.
They all witnessed the scene.
Daria, feigning composure, stepped forward and spoke with a smile. "Sorry, it's all a misunderstanding. I'm the HR Manager at Stellar Enterprises. I just had a conversation with Jasmine and realized it was a workplace handover error. There's no assault."
The officer frowned. "Are you the person in charge?"
Daria nodded. "Yes, there's been a mix-up. We'll sort it out internally. Thank you for your time."
"Daria, what's going on?" Howard approached, clearly displeased.
Jasmine stayed silent, expecting Daria to speak up and clear her own name. By doing so, Jasmine effectively closed off all of Daria's options, leaving no room for second thoughts.
"Mr. Howard, it's all a misunderstanding. It was only after a chat that I discovered there had been a mix-up during the staff handover. I made it clear in the training to forbid any peanuts, but somehow they got the impression Mr. Douglas loves peanuts, leading to this error." Daria hurriedly spoke, planning to pin the blunder on a scapegoat and move on.
Howard looked at Jasmine meaningfully, with an audible snort. "Ethan is still in the hospital, and we need to get to the bottom of this."
"It was a misunderstanding today." Ethan's voice came from the crowd, instantly settling Jasmine's frantic heart.
"Mr. Douglas," a police officer stepped forward to inquire about the incident.
Ethan explained to the police, insisting he had insisted on having candy without realizing it would trigger an allergic reaction and that it had nothing to do with his assistant.
After taking notes, the police left the scene.
The company's staff hastened back to their desks, no one daring to ruffle Ethan's feathers at such a time.
"Ethan! Are you okay?" Harper cried out, running to embrace Ethan, the terror evident on her face.
Ethan's expression darkened as he instinctively looked towards Jasmine.
She stood frozen at the doorway, uncertain whether to approach.
His face clouded over, and he shot a glare at Liam.
Startled, Liam quickly stepped in between Ethan and Harper, holding out his hands. "Miss Brown, Mr. Douglas is still feeling unwell. Let's let him rest in his office."
Harper wiped her tears and spoke softly. "Ethan, this incident was terrifying. The people around you need to be more careful. If it were me, I wouldn't make such a mistake. Maybe I should just become your assistant."
Ethan barely heard Harper, his attention fixed on Jasmine.
She seemed lost in thought, head down, her right hand gripping her left arm tightly.
'What is she pondering so deeply?' Ethan thought.
"Ethan, we must take this matter seriously," Howard insisted, wanting Ethan to use this opportunity to end his ridiculous marriage with Jasmine.
"You're right. This needs to be dealt with seriously," Ethan said in a low voice as he approached Jasmine. "No more peanut candy bars, and I want a 3,000-word reflection paper on my desk before the end of the day. Don't even think about leaving if it's not done!"
Jasmine snapped back to reality, looking at Ethan.
‘Write a reflection paper?’
Howard's expression darkened with anger. It was evident to him that Ethan was pretending to be confused to provoke a reaction.
"Mr. Douglas..." Daria's voice trembled as she called out, looking down, too scared to speak up.
"Shouldn't you, Daria, be writing an apology letter for me as well?" Ethan inquired with a meaningful look in his eyes.
Daria nodded hastily. "Yes, yes, it's my fault."
Fear caused her legs to tremble. She didn't dare openly defy Ethan. If he were resolute, Daria wouldn't stand a chance this time.
"What are you still standing there for? Did I say you could leave? Come in and write that apology." Ethan looked down at Jasmine, a hint of a smile on his lips.
Jasmine quickly turned and scurried behind Ethan.
"Ethan..." Harper stood frozen, her voice hoarse. Had Ethan just ignored her?
"Miss Brown, you're not feeling well. You really should go home and rest. Shall I drive you?" Liam, with a smile on his face, stepped in front of Harper, offering to take her home.
"I was hoping to have lunch with Ethan," Harper said, tightening her grip on her hands, wishing Liam would just back off. However, Liam was Ethan's distant cousin. she couldn't be too obvious.
Some masks had to be maintained.
"The thing is, Mr. Douglas had been vomiting, and the doctors advised against him eating just yet. You should go home. Once Mr. Douglas feels better, he'll come to see you," Liam quickly intervened, his friendly smile barely holding.
Tears welled up in Harper's eyes. "Does Ethan dislike me?"
"Not at all! I swear," Liam, ever the compassionate man towards beauty, thought to himself. Harper looked delicate, but alas, Mr. Douglas just didn't seem to appreciate that. "Miss Brown, you know how committed Mr. Douglas is to the Hawaiian project. He wouldn't have rushed back to work after pulling out his IV if he hadn't. He can't be disturbed when he's working. He's a total workaholic."
Harper knew Ethan didn't like to be disturbed at work.
"Otis was my senior. I've already got in touch with him. I'll be going to Hawaii with him; I can be of help," Harper stated earnestly.
Liam thought for a second, then decided to placate her for now. "All right, Miss Brown, I'll be sure to pass along your message to Mr. Douglas."
Harper bit the corner of her lip, clenching her fingers. "How could Ethan be so casual about hiring an assistant?"
Liam took a deep breath and thought, 'Is this still casual?'
The "closed doors" of Stellar Enterprises have been wrenched open by Jasmine upon her arrival.
The HR department at Stellar Enterprises was a hurdle Liam had struggled to overcome for years. Yet, Jasmine managed to break through it effortlessly, like delivering a strong blow to its sturdy door.
Indeed, appearances can be deceiving.
"Miss Jasmine passed the assessment with flying colors," Liam admitted, a hint of admiration creeping into his tone for her.
Harper merely nodded, offering no further comment.
"Miss Brown, allow me to get that for you," offered Vittoria, sprinting over to operate the elevator doors for Harper.
"I remember Jasmine... she's Daniel's former fiancée, right?" Harper inquired with a meaningful look.
The secretary nodded. "That's the rumor."
Harper snorted with a wry smile, realizing it might be time to have a little chat with Serena at the Wilson Family about this Jasmine situation.
...
In the office, Jasmine's nerves were starting to waver. The confident front she had been keeping up was now replaced by fear, making her legs shake. She almost lost her balance and had to grab onto the doorframe to steady herself.
Ethan leaned against the desk, holding his coffee cup and trying not to chuckle at her. "Don't forget the 3,000-word report," he reminded her.
"Mr. Douglas... what am I, uh, supposed to write exactly?" Jasmine stuttered.
"Did you block Henry’s number yet?" Ethan suddenly changed the subject.
Jasmine fidgeted nervously, a guilty conscience gripping her. "I... No, I couldn't just... block..."
Ethan set down his coffee cup with a stern expression. "Write the report! You're not leaving work until it's done."
Jasmine was at a loss. What exactly was she supposed to be reflecting on?
