Chapter 389 Nolan Sought Redemption from Jasmine
Nighttime, bar.
Nolan was a very disciplined person and didn't have many shady friends in Silverlight City, so tonight, he came out drinking alone.
"Hey, would you like to have a drink together?" A woman saw Nolan drinking alone and approached him.
Nolan's mood was very low, and it was obvious to anyone that he shouldn't be messed with, yet this woman insisted on bothering him.
"Get lost!" Nolan was irritated.
The woman felt humiliated, got upset, and turned away angrily.
Nolan rubbed his temples, glanced at the time, and got up to leave.
Running away like this would only make things harder to explain.
Thinking about the things he had said to Jasmine and the way he had treated her, Nolan wanted to slap himself.
Frustrated, he punched the table and decided to go back.
No matter what, she was his sister, and he needed to explain.
"Leaving after insulting someone?" Just as Nolan was about to leave, someone stepped in his way.
Nolan gave the person a cold glance.
"You're just a pretty boy, aren't you?" The man sneered, looking up at Nolan but still unwilling to back down.
Nolan's voice was low. "Get lost."
The man felt humiliated and picked up a bottle to attack Nolan who was seeking an outlet for his frustration and the man made the first move.
"Everyone, look! This guy is ignoring the law and trying to hit someone. If he wins, he goes to jail; if he loses, he goes to the hospital." Before the man could smash the bottle, Amelia walked over with her phone recording.
The man got angry. "Who are you? Turn off your phone!"
Seeing the man about to attack Amelia, Nolan kicked him. "Bastard! "
Amelia was so scared she almost fell, but Nolan pulled her into his arms.
Nolan's assistant also rushed over to stop the others.
"Take care of him," Nolan coldly instructed his assistant, pulling Amelia by the wrist and walking out.
"You're still in college at your age. What are you doing in a bar every day?" Nolan scolded Amelia with a stern face.
Amelia laughed. "If I hadn't helped you just now, that bottle would have smashed your face. You should be thanking me."
Nolan rubbed his temples. "Where do you live? I'll take you home."
"No," Amelia refused. "Take me with you."
"Out drinking late at night, not going home, and hanging out with random men. Your parents should educate you better," Nolan said harshly,
Amelia was stunned for a moment, looking at Nolan.
"You have no right to judge me. You're just a male escort. I pay you to keep me company," Amelia said angrily, her eyes red, and turned to leave.
Nolan didn't want to get involved, but there were too many drunks outside, and it wasn't safe for a woman alone.
"Stop!" Nolan rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.
Ignoring Nolan, Amelia continued walking, only for him to swiftly catch up and seize her wrist. Amelia turned around, her eyes red, tears glistening under the streetlight.
Nolan was stunned for a moment, feeling a sudden tightness in his chest.
He seemed to have said the wrong thing again.
At that moment, Nolan thought of Jasmine.
Jasmine had once said, "You don't understand me. If you haven't experienced what I have, don't judge my life."
At that time, he didn't care at all.
"Why are you crying?" Nolan asked, feeling a bit guilty and anxious after his experience with Jasmine.
"I didn't have any parental guidance. My dad had countless women outside, and I grew up without a mom. My stepmother treated me poorly. They only cared about my brother; no one cared about me. Everyone knows I'm just a decoration! If I had someone to back me up, I wouldn't be betrayed by men." Amelia cried, standing still and shaking off Nolan's hand. "You don't understand me at all; you have no right to lecture me."
Nolan felt a sharp pain in his chest.
He didn't understand, so he couldn't judge.
Yes, he had no right to hurt others with a condescending attitude.
He had no idea what Jasmine had been through, so what right did he have to say those things to her?
Nolan stood in silence for a long time, his voice hoarse. "I'll take you home," he said.
"I don't have a home," Amelia said, lowering her head and squatting down.
She had been sent to boarding school at a young age and then studied abroad.
Every path was arranged by her family. She was used to being wild outside; she had no home.
Nolan looked down at Amelia and took a deep breath. "I'll take you to a hotel."
"Stay with me," Amelia looked up at Nolan. "I have money. I can give you a lot of money. Pretend to like me, be my boyfriend, and I'll pay you."
Nolan rubbed his temples, thinking Amelia was crazy. "You're simply..."
"But you go out to sleep with people for money too. I can pay you. To me, money is everything; it can buy anything. The women around my dad play the role of mistresses for money and resources. You can act, too. It won't be long, just three months. I'll keep you for three months," Amelia said softly,
"Are you serious?" Nolan frowned.
"I want to break off my engagement with Adam. He betrayed me, and my dad won't let me call it off. He doesn't care about me at all. If Adam dares to betray me, I can betray him too." Amelia just wanted to end the engagement and have nothing to do with Adam.
She felt disgusted just seeing Adam.
"Are you using me to disgust your fiancé? Think it through. Can you afford the cost of provoking me?" Nolan said, then paused.
He shouldn't have too much to do with Adam.
But that night, Amelia was sober, and he made the first mistake, so he should take responsibility.
For so many years, as the head of the Cunningham family, he had shouldered all the responsibilities, helped his mother, and protected his two younger brothers, but he had neglected himself.
He thought he would never have any involvement with any woman in his life.
But Amelia barged into his life.
"How much do you want? I have money. I can give you a lot of money," Amelia looked up, her eyes bright as she looked at Nolan.
Nolan felt his heart beating irregularly, turned his gaze away, and reached out to Amelia. "Come on; let's go to my place first. I have to go out for a while. Stay home and sleep well; don't run around."
Amelia looked at Nolan, her heart beating fast, too. He said to stay home and sleep well.
He was taking her home.
Her eyes welled up with tears, and she carefully grabbed Nolan's hand, speaking softly, "I'll give you a lot of money, so during this time, you have to act like you love me, or I'll dock your pay."
She really wanted to feel what it was like to be loved, to be cared for, to have someone give her a home.
Even if she knew it was fake.
At Ethan's place.
Since coming back from the Cunningham family, Jasmine had been silent the whole way.
Cordelia said Jasmine needed some time to accept her new identity.
"Jasmine..." Ethan held Jasmine's hand, coaxing her softly, "Now you're the daughter of the Cunningham family, and I'm the one who was kicked out with nothing. Are you going to abandon me?"
Jasmine looked at Ethan with red-rimmed eyes and threw herself into his arms. "Ethan, if you pursue me, I'll say yes."
Ethan smiled. "Can we skip the dating part and go straight to the proposal?"
"No," Jasmine shook her head. "You owe me six years."
Ethan felt a pang in his chest and choked out, "Okay."
After getting out of the car, Ethan lovingly held Jasmine.
Jasmine just clung to Ethan, letting him carry her.
There was a dark figure at the door, leaning against the car. As they got closer, they saw it was Nolan.
No one knew how long he had been waiting there.
It was still drizzling, and he looked a bit disheveled.
