Chapter 400 Arnold and Richard Looked Alike
"It's so lively here. Today is Mr. Douglas's birthday. What's going on?" Betty asked with a surprised look.
"He's rehearsing his funeral in advance," Edgar said in a moderate tone,
These words almost brought Howard, who had fainted from anger, back to life out of sheer rage.
"Dad!" Daniel hurriedly supported Howard to the hospital, glaring at Edgar.
The guests at the scene were all in an uproar; this was a high-society scandal.
Jasmine turned out to be the heiress of the Cunningham family. This was explosive news.
"Ethan, you are also a son of the Douglas family, and that's an unchangeable fact. If you destroy the Douglas family, you won't benefit from it!" Claire shouted angrily, pointing at Ethan.
Ethan sneered. "You're already finding it unbearable. This is just the beginning."
Ethan looked at Claire with cold eyes.
She would have to pay for the mistakes she made.
Whether it was causing his mother's death or falsely accusing Jasmine of extortion, he would settle the score with Claire.
Claire looked at Ethan in horror, seeing an abyss of darkness and oppression in his eyes.
She had always feared Ethan, and now she regretted not killing him when she kicked him out of the Douglas family.
Clenching her fists, Claire turned and chased after Howard.
She absolutely couldn't let Ethan live.
If he ever found out the truth about his mother's death, it would be too late.
She had to eliminate both Ethan and Jasmine.
Being the heiress of the Cunningham family was no big deal!
Anyone who stood in her way had to be removed.
Watching Claire and Howard get into the ambulance, Cordelia spoke in a deep voice, "Be careful of their desperate retaliation."
"Let her retaliate then," Jasmine said, gripping Ethan's hand. "We're not afraid of her."
Cordelia smiled, finally seeing confidence on her daughter's face.
Her eyes reddened with relief, and she turned to grab Evelina's hand. "Jasmine is so beautiful."
"Don't fight with me over this," Evelina glared at Cordelia.
Over there, Lisa and Annabelle were still calming the guests down, sending them off one by one.
This incident caused the Douglas family to lose face completely in local business circle.
"I heard the Douglas family even invited the tycoon Arnold Sanders to the birthday party," Cordelia remembered something and turned to ask.
"Yes, Mrs. Cunningham, that's the main reason I came." Betty nodded.
Most of Betty's businesses were in the U.S., so she was quite familiar with Arnold.
"The Douglas Group is in a precarious situation right now. I didn't expect Howard to be able to invite Arnold," Cordelia said coldly.
The U.S.-based Cunningham Group had Arnold's company as a competitor.
The two companies were of similar strength, making them major competitors.
"It seems Howard is hard to deal with," Edward sneered. "But just because he can invite Arnold doesn't mean Arnold can dominate the domestic market."
The Cunningham Group took on the Westing project to break into local market where Arnold also hoped to enter. Since they were rival companies, the Cunningham family had to remain cautious.
"In any case, the Sanders Group is indeed very strong, so we need to be vigilant." Ethan also held a cautious attitude towards Arnold.
"I heard Arnold is the result of an affair Mr. Sanders had with a local woman during a business trip to Silverlight City years ago. Mr. Sanders reportedly cut ties with them when he left to continue his business." Ethan didn't know much, as Arnold intentionally hid his past.
"Yes, he wasn't called Arnold before; he took his mother's surname and was called Guadalupe Diaz," Cordelia knew about Arnold's past and didn't look pleased when mentioning him.
Jasmine keenly sensed her mother's unusual emotion. "Mom, Arnold..."
Evelina kept winking at Jasmine. "Rival company, Cordelia and Arnold have been competitors for many years."
Jasmine nodded, understanding that the Cunningham Group and the Sanders Group had been in business wars for many years, with neither side winning.
But neither had lost.
Cordelia sneered, her face full of displeasure when mentioning this person.
Evelina whispered, "Remember, never mention Arnold in front of Cordelia. It's a forbidden name; whoever mentions it will get scolded by her."
Jasmine obediently nodded, deciding not to bring it up again, as it made Cordelia very angry.
Arnold must be very bad; otherwise, he wouldn't make the usually gentle Cordelia so angry.
"Guadalupe," Richard repeated Arnold's former name, "This name sounds familiar."
"Guadalupe..." Jasmine also found it familiar. "I've heard someone mention it before."
The siblings looked at each other in surprise. "Yes, May mentioned it."
"May is just a nanny; she couldn't possibly know Arnold." Betty was curious.
"I remember once, May called someone to ask for money. She got into an argument and mentioned someone named Guadalupe, which might be a repeated name," Richard explained, though she often heard May mention this person.
"Sharing a name with Arnold, that's really unlucky," Cordelia said, holding Jasmine's hand. "Jasmine, let's go home."
Cordelia clearly didn't want to see Arnold.
The Douglas family's birthday party ended before it even started. Arnold hadn't arrived yet, and the Douglas family probably didn't have time to notify him. Cordelia didn't want to see him.
Just as they were about to leave, Arnold arrived.
Cordelia was holding her daughter's hand and had just reached the door when a black Rolls-Royce pulled up.
An assistant got out and opened the car door.
Arnold stepped out of the car, exuding a powerful presence.
Jasmine sneaked a glance at Arnold, a bit shocked.
Arnold and Cordelia were the same age. He was very tall and had a commanding presence.
It was clear that he had been working out regularly, making his physique stand out among middle-aged men.
Especially those long legs that exuded an air of confidence, much like a domineering CEO.
His deep eyes fell on Cordelia's face, and Arnold's cold gaze seemed to soften with a smile. "Cordelia, what a coincidence."
Unlike Arnold's smile, Cordelia was not happy.
Evelina cleared her throat, breaking the awkward atmosphere. "Mr. Sanders, still single after all these years."
Arnold had never married, and there were rumors that he liked men.
But Evelina didn't think so.
Everyone could see that Arnold had feelings for Cordelia.
But no one dared to say it out loud.
If anyone dared to mention Arnold in front of Cordelia, she could kill them.
"I'm waiting for someone," Arnold said meaningfully.
Cordelia sneered and pulled Jasmine away. "See, this is business competition, making others feel sick with their words."
Jasmine looked at Arnold, then at Cordelia, completely confused.
The atmosphere here was off.
She suddenly stopped, and before getting into the car, Jasmine glanced at Arnold again.
Then her gaze fell on Richard, who was standing nearby.
It seemed like her imagination.
She felt that Richard and Arnold looked a bit alike.
