Chapter 101 Charles Left
Martin didn't pay much attention, thinking that Charles had woken up and gotten bored in the room, so he went downstairs. He searched the entire house but couldn't find him anywhere.
Finally, he realized something was wrong and grabbed the newly hired butler, asking, "Where is Charles?"
The butler, Mr. Stevens, was momentarily confused.
"Charles?" he repeated.
Martin tried another way, "Randy."
Mr. Stevens suddenly understood and hurriedly responded, "Randy got up early. He said he wanted to go out for a walk alone. He didn't want anyone to follow him. He should be in the garden now."
Martin vaguely felt that something was not right. He called over the maid who was cleaning the garden and asked, "Did you see Randy?"
The maid answered, "I saw Randy leaving! I asked him where he was going, but he didn't say. I suggested that the driver could take him, but he refused."
Martin's face turned grim. He quickly ran to the surveillance room and pulled up the footage from the front gate.
As expected, he saw Charles's small figure leaving confidently through the gate and walking away along the only road.
At that moment, as he watched Charles leave without hesitation, his heart ached, and his eyes inexplicably became moist. Charles didn't like him. That was the only thought in his mind.
Why?
Why didn't Charles like him?
Had he done something wrong as a father?
Martin racked his brains but couldn't figure out why neither Randy nor Charles liked him. Though he felt upset, Martin was also afraid that something might happen to Charles if he was alone.
He immediately grabbed the car keys and chased after him.
Unfortunately, he drove around the roads twice but couldn't find Charles anywhere. Boundless disappointment consumed him.
He arrived at the hospital.
Patricia, who was having breakfast with Randy, saw Martin walking in alone looking lost and desolate.
Thinking that he hadn't found Charles, her face turned pale, and her fork fell from her hand.
"Martin, where is Charles? You didn't find him?"
As her words fell, tears fell from her eyes.
Martin shook his head, "I found him!"
A glimmer of hope instantly appeared in Patricia's lifeless eyes. "Found him? Where is Charles then? Why didn't you bring him to see me?"
Martin stared at her intently, suddenly grabbing her hand and sternly questioning, "You knew they were twins from the beginning. Why didn't you tell me?"
Ever since Martin started searching for Charles, Patricia had anticipated this day would come.
Facing his accusation, Patricia answered confidently, "Would you have given Charles to me if I had told you? If Randy hadn't been born with congenital heart disease, I would have taken him too. Have you fulfilled your responsibilities as a father from my pregnancy to birth? And now, how dare you ask me why I didn't tell you."
In an instant, Martin's face turned pale, and his whole body froze.
Like cold water poured over him, extinguishing all anger, he sat weakly on the hospital bed and said absentmindedly, "I'm sorry, I didn't know that one decision I made back then would lead to the situation today."
Seeing him like this, Patricia began to regret her impulsive words earlier.
"I'm sorry, I spoke too harshly earlier. Tell me, what happened to Charles? Where did he go?"
Martin said in a deep voice, "We arrived at the international airport at midnight yesterday. I didn't want to disturb you and Randy, so I took him home in Ellenstein Villa District. But this morning, he sneaked away on his own. Maybe he blames me, his father, for everything."
Thinking that it was his own wishful thinking yesterday, and that Charles didn't really love him as a father, his heart ached.
After hearing his words, Patricia took out her phone and dialed Jade's number.
"Jade, did Charles come back?"
"No..." before she could finish her sentence, the door opened and Charles excitedly rushed in, hugging her legs. "Jade, I'm back! I missed you so much these past few days."
Fannie, who was organizing her backpack in the room, heard the commotion and immediately ran out.
Seeing Charles with tears streaming down his face, she threw herself into his arms, sobbing and crying, "Charles, you're finally back! I missed you so much."
Charles held her tightly.
The two little ones embraced each other.
"I missed you too!"
Fannie let go of Charles and checked him from head to toe.
"Let me see if you're injured. You must have had a hard time these past few days, right?"
Charles shook his head vigorously. "I'm fine!" cupping her face, he said with concern, "But you, you've lost so much weight! I bet you haven't been eating properly these days."
Fannie pouted, "I was worried about you, how could I eat?"
Charles doted on her, "Tonight, let's call Mommy and go out for a nice meal together! You have no idea what I ate during those days on the cargo ship. If it weren't for coming back to see you all, I would rather starve than eat."
Fannie nodded vigorously, "Okay! We haven't gone out to eat together as a family for a long time. Let's go out tonight."
Seeing the two little ones engrossed in their conversation, Jade shrugged helplessly.
"Did you hear that? They're discussing where to eat tonight!"
Relieved that Charles had returned, Patricia relaxed a bit and after instructing Jade to take good care of them, she hung up the phone.
Martin's handsome face turned grave after hearing their conversation.
"Charles rarely comes back. I'm sure you miss him a lot. I'll take care of Randy, you go see Charles!"
Upon hearing Patricia's plan to visit Charles, Randy, who had been silent all along, said quickly, "I want to go with Mommy too! I want to see Charles."
Martin was taken aback, surprised.
She looked at him in surprise, "You, you know Charles is your brother?"
Randy nodded, answering matter-of-factly, "Yes, I know! Charles was born ten minutes before me."
Martin's handsome face twitched involuntarily.
"So, everyone knows except me?" he asked.
Patricia chuckled, "No, only Randy knows. You're the second to know."
Martin raised an eyebrow, "Really?"
Patricia nodded, "Really, we're all one family. It doesn't matter who knows first."
"Well, that's good then!" Martin felt a bit uneasy but knowing that Randy found out before him eased his concerns.
Patricia secretly breathed a sigh of relief, not daring to tell Martin that Alan also knew about this, afraid it might upset him.
Randy held Patricia's hand and said, "Mommy, I want to see Charles! Can you take me there, please?"
Patricia patiently comforted him, "You have to get a shot in the morning, so you can't go. Charles and I will come pick you up in the evening and we can all go out to dinner together, okay?"
Randy pouted, clearly unsatisfied with this arrangement.
Patricia affectionately patted his head, "Be good and listen! Mommy is very worried about Charles and needs to go back quickly to see if he's okay after dealing with the kidnappers. You wait for me at the hospital, and I'll definitely come to get you in the evening."
Even though he had countless objections, Randy could only agree.
Patricia left.
Martin, however, felt extremely baffled.
Because, in their previous plan, they completely excluded him as if he were invisible.
