Chapter 1088 Charles Sought Help from Martin

Martin rarely saw Charles with such an expression, and he couldn't help but sit up a bit straighter. "What is it?"

Charles said, "The last time I had a car accident and almost died, it was Austin who did it."

"What?" Martin's hand on the armrest of the chair suddenly clenched into a fist, his face grim. "When did you find out? Why are you only telling me now? I always thought there was something fishy about it, but I never found out! I can't believe it was him."

He had no doubt about Charles' words. He trusted Charles' abilities. Since Charles said it was Austin, he must be 100% sure and have concrete evidence.

"I found out a long time ago! I was originally planning to take revenge on him," Charles lowered his eyes and said in a deep voice, "but in the matter of Hannah, it was indeed my fault first. Regardless of Hannah's gratitude or love for him, I did fall in love with Hannah while they were still together. If it weren't for my appearance, Hannah would have married him by now. In this matter, I feel guilty towards him, so when I found out he wanted to kill me, I didn't pursue it and used this matter to offset my guilt towards him."

Martin's thin lips pressed into a tight line, almost gritting his teeth as he said, "Even if you feel guilty towards him about Hannah, it doesn't justify or excuse him for almost killing you. Do you know why your mother likes me and not Hunter? This is the biggest difference between Hunter and me. Hunter liked your mother and did so many bad things to get her, almost killing you and your siblings. This proves that he is a narrow-minded person who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals."

"How could your mother like someone like that? How is Austin any different from Hunter back then? Both are willing to use any means to get the woman they love. I've always supported fair competition. If you like someone, compete openly and honestly, not with these underhanded, despicable tactics. This is a matter of character."

Charles felt that Martin was right! No matter how much Austin liked Hannah, he shouldn't use despicable means to forcefully take her, leaving an unloving Hannah by his side.

However, in the matter of Austin, Charles could never feel justified. That day when he fought with Austin, every word Austin said hit him hard. He had always been upright in his actions, except in the matter of Austin and Hannah, where he always felt guilty.

If he had met Hannah after they broke up and then been with her, he wouldn't feel guilty towards Austin. But Hannah broke up with Austin because she fell in love with him.

Even if Hannah didn't like Austin, without his appearance, they would still be together. In Austin's mind, he was the third party who broke them up.

Martin's eyes flashed with a cold light, and his fists clenched tightly. "No matter the reason, since he wanted to kill you, he can never be forgiven!"

Charles firmly said, "No! That matter is in the past. I've already beaten him up and said it's over. I don't want to go back on my word. Besides, Carter is still lying in bed, not awake. Back then, Carter almost died at Hunter's hands to save Mom. I will never forget that kindness. Dad, let's just let this go and not pursue it anymore."

Martin gritted his back teeth, painfully struggling between pursuing and not pursuing.

In the end, all his anger turned into a sigh. "This is your matter; I have no right to forgive on your behalf! But since you say it's over, then it's over. However, you don't need to feel conflicted because of what Carter did back then. That was Carter's kindness to our family, not Austin's!"

Charles nodded and smiled. "I understand! The reason I forgave Austin is partly because of Carter and partly because I feel guilty towards him! So, I won't pursue this matter."

Martin nodded, looking at Charles with both heartache and relief. "That matter is over, but this one absolutely cannot be! Since he can do this again and again because of Hannah, there's no guarantee there won't be a third time. If we don't kill this idea in him, you and Hannah will live in fear for the rest of your lives."

Charles nodded. "Yes! That's exactly what I thought, so I came to discuss it with you."

Martin's long fingers tapped the armrest of the chair repeatedly.

Charles continued, "When Hannah first went missing, I had Wyatt find someone to follow Austin. He behaved normally, and the person Wyatt found followed him for a long time without finding any flaws. Because of this, I dismissed my suspicions about him."

"Later, at the hospital in Country H, Austin spoke up for Tina. I felt something was wrong again and had Wyatt investigate. I didn't expect to find out they were once classmates. There were only twenty students in their class, and those who got in were very capable. Even if they were low-key, they couldn't possibly not know each other!"

"When Stella questioned Austin about knowing Tina, Austin directly denied knowing her. I always felt there was something wrong and had Wyatt continue investigating, but found nothing. They were too cunning, making me think I was wrong again."

Martin said, "Until today, when Hannah's way of addressing Austin made you sure he was involved."

Charles said, "Not just that, what made me sure was Hannah saying Tina and Austin appeared in her memory at the same time. I think when I found them at the dock, Tina must have forcibly erased Hannah's memory of Austin. Maybe because it was too rushed and the environment didn't allow it, it wasn't completely erased, so when Hannah saw Austin, she remembered some things."

Martin fell into a brief contemplation. "So, there's no evidence of Austin and Tina colluding?"

Charles nodded. "Yes! They are too cunning! I'm now 100% sure Austin is the mastermind, but without evidence, he won't admit it. If he insists he doesn't know Tina, I'll just alert him."

After a pause, Charles continued, "Dad, do you have any good ideas?"

Martin thought for a while, then slowly curled his lips into a smile. "Actually, it's not entirely impossible!"

Charles' eyes lit up. "Dad, you have a way?"

Martin didn't answer directly. The smile on his lips deepened, and his expression became increasingly dark and inscrutable.
