Chapter 644 Leave Him

Kaleb was taken to the emergency room.

Patricia and the butler paced anxiously outside.

Maximilian rushed over as soon as he received the news, grabbing Patricia and asking, "How could my uncle, who was perfectly fine, collapse? What happened?"

Feeling guilty, Patricia lowered her head and recounted the whole incident.

"Mr. Reed, I'm sorry, I had no idea things would turn out like this! If I knew it would get so serious, I would never have pretended to be Kaleb's daughter."

Maximilian never expected the situation to escalate like this.

He placed his hand on Patricia's shoulder, sighed deeply, and comforted her, "This has nothing to do with you. It was my idea to ask you to help me. I just wanted my uncle to be happy, but I never imagined this twist of fate, with Margaret having an accident around the same time."

He had never believed in curses.

But this situation seemed too coincidental.

It made him start to wonder if the curse was real.

With tears in her eyes and a choked voice, Patricia asked, "What do we do now? Margaret is dead because of this, and so is Kaleb's son! If it was just the lie being exposed, I could slowly seek his forgiveness. But now, with Margaret and their child dead, things have spiraled out of control."

Even if she knelt down and broke her legs, Margaret and their child could not be brought back, and Kaleb would never forgive her.

Maximilian gently patted her shoulder. "Don't overthink it. You go back first. I'll handle things with Kaleb here."

Patricia shook her head, refusing, "No, I have to wait for Kaleb to come out and apologize to him in person."

With a soft smile, Maximilian said, "Kaleb will only get angrier if he sees you! Listen to me, leave this to me to handle!"

After careful consideration, Patricia agreed with him. Kaleb had collapsed in anger because of her, and seeing her again might worsen his condition.

To avoid affecting Kaleb's health, Patricia chose to leave first.

Once Patricia left, Maximilian instructed the butler, "Don't tell anyone about today's events!"

The butler nodded. "I understand, I won't say anything."

Satisfied, Maximilian withdrew his gaze and sat down on a bench outside the emergency room.

After what seemed like a long wait, the door of the emergency room finally opened.

Maximilian hurried over.

"Doctor, how is my uncle? Is he okay?"

The doctor removed his mask and smiled, "He's fine, he just fainted from anger. He's fine now, he'll be observed in the hospital overnight, and if everything is okay, he can be discharged. He needs to rest well these days and avoid getting angry."

"Thank you!"

Upon hearing that Kaleb was fine, Maximilian breathed a sigh of relief.

Kaleb was taken to the VIP observation room.

Maximilian sent the butler back to prepare food for Kaleb.

Not long after the butler left, Kaleb woke up.

He seemed to be still dazed, staring blankly at the ceiling.

"Kaleb," Maximilian called out.

Kaleb didn't respond.

Maximilian called again, "Kaleb."

Still no response from Kaleb.

"Kaleb," Maximilian was about to call again, but Kaleb impatiently interrupted, "Stop calling, I heard you."

Maximilian glared at him. "You heard me and you're ignoring me?"

Kaleb weakly replied, "I don't want to talk."

Maximilian knew that Kaleb was probably still resentful towards Patricia for pretending to be his child, so as not to let him continue misunderstanding Patricia, he dragged a chair over, sat down by the bed, and said, "Uncle, this has nothing to do with Ms. Watson. It was me who asked her to pretend to be your daughter. She initially hesitated to deceive you, so she didn't agree."

Kaleb didn't seem to be paying attention, with no change in his eyes or facial expression.

He continued to stare blankly at the ceiling.

Maximilian knew he was listening and continued, "I know Margaret is the love of your life, and you won't be happy until you find her and the child. I've been searching for over twenty years and haven't found any trace of them. I don't even know if they're alive or dead. If you can't find them in your lifetime, will you always be like this? That's why I thought of finding someone to pretend to be your daughter. Ms. Watson happens to bear some resemblance to Margaret, and she happened to have a request for you. I thought it was a good opportunity, so I asked her to pretend to be your daughter. She initially resolutely refused me and wanted to move you with her own efforts to save Martin. Unexpectedly, you stuck to your own opinion, no matter what she did, you refused to save Martin."

Pausing here, he glanced at Kaleb's expression sneakily.

Still no change.

Maximilian sighed inwardly and continued, "I told her that she was your daughter, and Martin's condition suddenly deteriorated that day, and the hospital had already issued a critical condition notice, ready to hold a funeral for him at any time. Patricia had no choice but to secretly call me while carrying Martin. During this time, she has been feeling guilty and self-blaming, living in a lie every day, feeling very uneasy. None of us expected that Margaret and her son would have an accident because of this! Patricia is really guilty, she almost knelt in front of me to confess just now. She told me that although she is not your biological daughter, she will treat you well in the future, as if you were her real father, taking care of you."

Kaleb seemed to find it the most ridiculous joke in the world.

He scoffed disdainfully. "After knowing each other for so long, she has never called me 'dad,' is this how she treats her father?"

Maximilian said, "She's not your biological daughter, she needs time to adapt! Kaleb, you can't be so petty! Besides, I was the one who planned this, so if you want to blame someone, blame me, she is innocent."

Kaleb remained silent again.

Maximilian, feeling frustrated, said, "Uncle, you can hit me, scold me, but please say something."

Kaleb weakly said, "Leave me alone, I want to be alone."

Concerned, Maximilian asked, "How can I leave you alone here?"

Kaleb turned over, facing away from him, to show his attitude.

Maximilian sighed. "Fine, I'll leave! I'll be outside, call me if you need anything."

Maximilian left.

Kaleb lay back on the bed, looking at the white ceiling, his mind in turmoil.
