Chapter 648 Who is Really in Control

After his analysis, Patricia and Ryan instantly sensed that something was amiss.

Patricia suddenly realized something. "Exactly! If Maximilian truly wanted to find someone after all these years, how could he have never succeeded?"

Ryan, grabbing his hair, asked, "So, are you saying that this Maximilian is suspicious?"

Patricia, puzzled, questioned, "Why is that?"

She couldn't help but view Maximilian as a villain.

Ryan explained, "Patricia, you're naive! Nexus Holdings Corporation belongs to Kaleb! Although Maximilian is currently managing the company, he's just a vice president; the real power lies with Kaleb. Regardless of whether Margaret gave birth to a daughter or a son for Kaleb, they would have a more legitimate claim to take over the company than him. In order to completely take control of the company, he definitely wouldn't want to find Margaret and her child. That's why he had you impersonate her, and Martin happened to need Kaleb's treatment, so you both served each other's needs."

Upon hearing Ryan's words, Patricia suddenly found them quite reasonable.

Indeed, Maximilian had a reason to intentionally avoid finding Margaret and her child.

"So, it's really Maximilian? Was it his scheme all along? Have we all been deceived by him?" Patricia wondered.

Martin, not quick to judge without knowing the truth, cautiously remarked, "It's hard to say."

Pausing for a moment, he recalled something and asked Patricia, "I remember you telling me that the Hill family has never given up on finding Margaret and her child for over twenty years."

Patricia nodded. "Yes! That's what Maximilian told me. I believe he wouldn't lie to me! Think about it, with the relationship between the Hill family and Kaleb, how could they possibly remain indifferent? Moreover, when Margaret and her child were found this time, it was by the Hill family. This proves that Maximilian wasn't lying."

Martin fell into contemplation once again.

Patricia and Ryan, unaware of his thoughts, continued their discussion, "Patricia, do you think if we expose Maximilian's scheme to Kaleb, he will continue to treat Martin in gratitude?"

However, Patricia wasn't as optimistic as Ryan.

In all honesty, she had a good impression of Maximilian.

From the moment they met, whenever she asked for his help, he readily assisted her without hesitation.

Without Maximilian, Martin might have perished long ago and wouldn't have survived until now, including last night.

Maximilian could have easily ignored her, yet he firmly handed her the car keys and let her drive back.

All of this didn't seem like manipulation.

Seeing her silence, Ryan understood her thoughts. "Patricia, one shouldn't judge whether someone is good or bad based on external appearances. Remember how you thought Hunter was a good person at first? What happened in the end? He turned out to be bad."

Patricia was left speechless at once.

Ryan analyzed, "So, I believe Maximilian is definitely like Hunter, hiding his true nature, a cunning and deceitful villain."

On a different note, Patricia pondered, "If he's truly that malicious, wouldn't Kaleb be in great danger?"

Ryan retorted, "At this point, you're still concerned about Kaleb?"

Patricia pressed her lips together. "If Maximilian's goal is Nexus Holdings Corporation, and he caused the deaths of Margaret and Kaleb's son, then Kaleb is his only real competitor. What do you think his next move would be to truly possess Nexus Holdings Corporation?"

Ryan shuddered. "If something happens to Kaleb, what about Martin’s treatment?"

Patricia's lips tightened into a frown. "So, I must ensure Kaleb's safety."

Ryan suggested, "Should we reveal Maximilian's true nature to Kaleb?"

Patricia turned to Martin. "What do you think? What should be our next step?"

Martin, who had been silent, finally spoke up, "I have another question!"

Patricia inquired, "What is it?"

Ryan added, "What question?"

Glancing at the tightly closed ward door, Martin lowered his voice to a level only the three of them could hear. "Don't you find it strange?"

Patricia and Ryan exchanged glances. "What's strange?"

Martin continued, "Margaret never changed her name, so why couldn't the Hill family find her for over twenty years? Why did they suddenly locate her after you and Kaleb reunited?"

Patricia and Ryan seemed to grasp the implication, yet also seemed puzzled.

Patricia asked, "What do you mean by that? Are you suspecting Joe?"

Fearful of being overheard by someone like Billy as it happened last time, she deliberately kept her voice very low.

Ryan, as if awakening from a dream, suddenly came to a realization. "Right! Why didn't I think of that! It's the same logic as with Maximilian! If they were both searching, why couldn't they find her for over twenty years? Unless the Hill family wasn't genuinely looking for Margaret, just going through the motions."

Patricia disagreed with him, "If it was just going through the motions, how could they manage to find her then?"

Ryan pondered, "So, one of them is lying. Who's lying, the Hill family or Maximilian? Maximilian seems to have more motive."

Martin shook his head. "It's too early to draw conclusions."

Ryan remarked, "What about now? We're quite passive here, even if we know one of these families is involved in something fishy, we can't do much about it! This is their territory."

Patricia nodded, expressing her concerns, "Yes! We're on their turf now, we can't act recklessly! Offending either the Taylor family or the Hill family is not an option."

Martin naturally understood this.

"This is their family matter, let's not meddle in it! Ryan, arrange for us to return to Ivara City tomorrow," Martin instructed.

Patricia hesitated, instinctively objecting, "No, we can't go back. If we return, all hope will be lost."

Martin chuckled. "Even if we stay, there's no hope."

Patricia shook her head. "Let's stay for two more days. I fear for Kaleb's safety. Whether it's the Hill family or Maximilian intentionally concealing this matter, there must be some hidden conspiracy. Their target is definitely Kaleb! I already owe him too much; I can't stand by knowing he might be in danger."

Martin quietly observed her, seeing her unwavering resolve, and didn't press further. He turned to Ryan. "Find a reliable private investigator and thoroughly investigate the relationship between the Hill family and the Taylor family over the past twenty years. Is it truly as good as it appears on the surface?"

Ryan assured, "OK! Leave it to me, I'll make sure the task is completed."

Martin cautioned, "Remember, don't let them catch on! We don't want to alert the snake in the grass."

Ryan grinned. "You can trust me to handle it! I'll get to work right away!"

With that, he got up and left.

Patricia gazed absentmindedly in the direction he departed, her face filled with worry.

How had such a simple matter suddenly become so complex?

Was it the Hill family that's at fault, or Maximilian?
