Chapter 956 Going Back

To keep from waking Charles, Hannah turned off the hairdryer after drying her hair, tossed it on the bed, and gently tucked him in with a blanket.

She couldn't resist touching his face as he lay there, head resting on her lap.

Her fingers traced his features slowly.

Her mind wandered through their memories: their first meeting, the first time he bailed her out of a jam, their first lunch at the company cafeteria, the first sunset they watched together, the first sunrise, their first kiss, their first time holding hands, and their first confession.

They had so many firsts, and there were plenty more to come—like their first snowfall, their wedding, their first kid, and so on.

Thinking about their future made Hannah super happy.

From the moment she realized she loved him, she had their whole future mapped out.

Charles was the first guy who made her think about marriage.

She wanted to spend forever with him.

Hannah kept staring at his face, lost in her thoughts.

Time seemed to crawl by.

Charles slept soundly, not even budging.

After a while, it started snowing outside the window.

Hannah's eyes widened in surprise.

The hotel staff hadn't been kidding; it was really snowing, even though it wasn't winter.

She wanted to wake Charles up, but after calling his name once, she remembered he was sleeping and stopped herself, looking regretfully at the snow outside.

They were gonna miss the first snow. But whatever.

If they missed the first snowfall on the mountain, there'd be more down below, and they could watch it together then.

As Hannah stared out the window, lost in thought, she suddenly heard Charles's voice, "It's snowing."

She looked down in surprise to find he had woken up without her noticing.

Hannah asked, "When did you wake up? Why didn't you sleep a bit longer?"

Charles sat up, stretched, and felt way more relaxed after his nap. His legs didn't hurt as much.

Charles replied, "I heard you call me. When you call me, of course, I wake up."

Hannah blinked innocently and said, "I only called you once, and not very loudly."

Charles moved closer, sat beside her, put his arm around her shoulder, and pressed her head onto his shoulder. "Even if you don't call out loud, I can still hear you."

Hannah playfully hit his chest and said, "Sweet talker!"

Charles held her shoulder with one hand and her hand with the other, looking contentedly out the window.

The snow was coming down hard.

In no time, a thin layer of white covered the ground, and the view was beautifully white.

The snow didn't let up.

Once Charles's clothes were dry, they bundled up and ran outside to play in the snow.

At that moment, Violet seemed a million miles away.

All their worries seemed far away too.

After they got tired of playing, they had the hotel send dinner to their room.

In the evening, they lay in bed watching a movie together, and when they got sleepy, they fell asleep in each other's arms.

Life was happy and warm.

Charles cherished these days and didn't want to leave. He wished they could settle on the mountain, just the two of them, ignoring everything else.

The snow kept falling.

Each step they took left a deep footprint, soon to be covered by snow again.

Charles and Hannah had three blissful days on the mountain.

Like any couple, they played in the snow, snuggled under blankets watching TV, kissed passionately, and slept in each other's arms at night.

Even though they did the same things every day, they never got bored.

But then, a phone call from Carter ruined the vibe.

The moment Charles saw the caller ID, he knew it had to be about Violet again.

Sure enough, as soon as he picked up, Carter's anxious voice came through, "Charles, sorry to bug you again! Are you done with your stuff there? Violet's been acting up, refusing treatment, and demanding to see you. When can you come back? Lassie and I can't handle it anymore."

Carter wouldn't have called if it wasn't urgent.

Charles glanced at Hannah, his face full of conflict.

He replied, "Carter, I'm out of town right now! I probably can't make it back today!"

Seeing his struggle, Hannah gently patted his hand and nodded slightly, signaling with her eyes for him to go back.

Charles was a bit puzzled.

Carter said, "I know it's unfair to you, but I'm out of options. Seeing Violet like this breaks my heart. I finally found her, and I don't want anything to happen to her again. I just want her to grow up healthy and be a normal person."

By the end, his voice was choked with emotion.

Charles couldn't bear it. Thinking of the bond between the Moore and Langley families, and his childhood connection with Violet, he finally agreed, "I'll come back tomorrow! I should be home by 2 PM at the latest! Please try to comfort Violet for now."

Carter was relieved. "Great! Violet will be so happy to hear you're coming back! Charles, I'll never forget this favor. Once Violet recovers, I'll make sure she understands and won't let her come between you and Hannah."

Charles felt a bit embarrassed. "If you keep being so polite, I'll really get mad."

"Alright! No more polite lies!"

Carter happily hung up.

After the call, Charles asked Hannah, "What did you mean just now?"

Hannah had already come to terms with it and smiled. "Instead of avoiding it, it's better to help Violet with her treatment so she can recover ASAP."

She paused and emphasized, "So, let's go back! I don't mind you taking her for treatment. I know you love me, and that's enough. I think Carter is right. Once she recovers, you can explain everything to her. It's a good thing!"

Charles said with concern, "But it will hurt you! I don't want to do anything that hurts you."

Hannah leaned in and kissed him hard on the cheek. "It won't! I was hurt before because I thought I was her substitute! Now I know I'm not, and that you truly love me. With that, I won't be hurt. Let's go back tomorrow! I'll go with you. No matter what happens, we'll face it together."

Charles hugged her tightly and kissed her forehead, moved. "Alright, we'll go back tomorrow! The sooner Violet gets better, the sooner we can go public with our relationship."

"Okay!" Hannah nodded, filled with infinite hope and dreams for the future.
