Chapter 1137 Only the Person Who Tied the Knot Can Untie It

Carter couldn't make out what Hannah was saying, but he could hear his wife loud and clear.

His eyes widened instantly. "What do you mean? Who had the nerve to harass my daughter? Who accused her of stealing money? Who, who dared to treat her like this?"

The fact that Hannah still remembered these incidents showed how deeply they had scarred her.

'Damn it. Who is it? Who makes my daughter suffer so much?' He cursed in his head.

Knowing that Lassie was entirely focused on their daughter and had no time for him, Carter couldn't help but feel angry about the injustice his daughter faced. He walked out to the balcony, took out his phone, and called his assistant. "I want to know every detail of Hannah's life with the White Family ASAP. I need to know everything that happened!"

He couldn't let his daughter's suffering go unavenged.

Anyone who dared to bully his daughter would pay.

"It's been a long time; it might be hard to get every detail."

Carter's eyes narrowed. "Then grill Quentin and Lisa. They mistreated my daughter for eight years. I don't believe they don't remember! If they still can't recall, keep at it until they do."

If he had known his daughter had been living like this with the White Family, the first thing he would have done upon waking up was to settle the score and get justice for her.

Sensing his boss's fury, the assistant dared not say more. "Understood, I'll handle it!"

After ending the call, Carter returned to the ward.

Lassie was holding Hannah tightly.

Hannah was still crying but hadn't woken up.

Lassie gently patted her back, trying to soothe her, but it wasn't working.

Hannah kept mumbling in her sleep, every word related to Lisa.

Seeing that her efforts were in vain, Lassie felt both heartbroken and anxious.

Carter was also worried and suggested, "How about calling Charles? Maybe he can help. He might have a way."

He was about to dial Charles when Lassie suddenly started humming a song.

The soft melody filled every corner of the ward.

Carter paused mid-dial.

This song was the one Lassie used to sing to Violet to help her sleep when she was little.

It was also the song Lassie's mother used to sing to her.

Every time Lassie hummed this song, Violet would fall asleep immediately.

He wondered if it would work now.

After a while, a miracle happened.

Hannah, who had been trapped in a nightmare, miraculously calmed down upon hearing Lassie's humming. She stopped mumbling and crying.

Though her shoulders still shook from sobbing for so long, and tears still clung to her face, she was now quietly nestled in Lassie's arms, just like when she was a child.

Lassie hummed for a long time, gently wiping away Hannah's tears.

Her precious daughter, whom she couldn't bear to let even a finger be hurt, had been tormented like this.

'Damn Quentin. Damn Lisa.'  Lassie cursed in her head.

They had tortured her daughter and still wanted to take money from Charles to live happily abroad. There was no way.

She had to get justice for her daughter's suffering.

At that moment, Carter's phone rang.

It was Charles.

Not wanting to disturb Hannah and Lassie, Carter stepped out to the balcony to take the call. "Charles."

Charles's concerned voice came through. "How's Hannah? Did she have any nightmares tonight?"

He was so worried about Hannah that he couldn't sleep, even after going home.

Knowing Charles cared about Hannah, Carter smiled. "Charles, don't worry. Hannah's doing okay."

Charles was taken aback. "She didn't have a nightmare?"

Carter replied, "She did, but Lassie managed to calm her down."

Charles was surprised. "Lassie calmed her down?"

Carter nodded, then remembered Charles couldn't see him and laughed. "Yeah! Lassie held her and hummed the song she used to sing to her when she was little. It worked!"

Thinking about it made him feel content.

He continued, "It seems that even though Tina erased her memories, deep down, she still remembers us! She subconsciously remembers her childhood."

Hearing this, Charles was silent for a moment.

Noticing the silence, Carter asked tentatively, "Charles, what's wrong? Why aren't you saying anything? Did you fall asleep?"

Charles replied solemnly, "I think I know what Hannah's emotional trauma is."

Carter's eyes lit up. "You know? What is it? If we can address it, will she wake up?"

Charles nodded. "Yeah."

Carter eagerly asked, "What is her trauma?"

Charles paused before saying, "It's too complicated to explain over the phone. I'll come to the hospital, and we can discuss it in person."

Thinking about the possibility of resolving his daughter's issues and her waking up, Carter didn't hesitate to agree to let Charles come over.

Charles arrived at the hospital quickly.

By then, Hannah was sound asleep, but she was still clutching Lassie's clothes tightly.

Lassie had no choice but to sit by the bed, holding Hannah's hand.

The ward was dimly lit by a bedside lamp.

Lassie sat by the bed, while Carter and Charles sat on the sofa.

Charles didn't waste any time and got straight to the point. "Carter, Lassie, did you hear Hannah's sleep-talking clearly?"

Lassie nodded and recounted everything she had heard.

"Although her words were incomplete, I'm sure Hannah suffered a lot in the White Family over the past eight years. Quentin and Lisa, those bastards, dared to treat my daughter like this! I'll make them pay."

"Exactly!" Charles said, his suspicions confirmed.

Carter asked curiously, "What do you mean?"

Charles explained, "Hannah's trauma is likely a deep longing for familial love."

Lassie was puzzled. "What?"

Carter asked, "Why do you say that?"

Charles elaborated, "Last night, she had a long nightmare and kept talking in her sleep. She kept crying and asking why. Why don't you like me? Why don't you believe me? Why are you treating me like this? Why? Believe me, it wasn't me. It wasn't me. I'm so hurt, Mom, I'm so hurt.

Her words were too fragmented for me to piece together at the time.

But combining it with what Lassie just said, I can roughly guess! Since Hannah joined the White Family, she hasn't been treated well.

Her childhood lacked parental love, care, and the warmth of a family.

Deep down, she craves familial love!

Even though Quentin and Lisa treated her well after we got engaged, it was all based on money! The damage they did to Hannah's childhood didn't disappear over time.

This issue has always been an unresolved emotional knot for Hannah."

Lassie agreed, feeling anxious. "So what do we do? She's unconscious now. Even if we know, we don't know how to help her! She doesn't know Quentin and Lisa aren't her biological parents, so she's still trapped in her emotional shadow."
