Chapter 610 The Truth is About to Emerge
No one said a word.
Shane pondered, ‘Could it be that the pregnancy is too early to be detected?’
Patricia wanted to speak about answering his question when Martin's attending physician entered with a group of interns.
The conversation was abruptly halted.
Since Jeremy raised the question, Ariel fell silent.
She silently discarded the pregnancy test strip, lost and confused, and took a seat in a daze, lost in her thoughts.
Jeremy and Shane were clearly distracted as well.
After the doctors left, the three of them remained silent.
Patricia knew what they were thinking.
Ariel's pregnancy symptoms were evident.
According to a normal examination, if a woman who was planning to get married experiences vomiting, the first thing to check was for pregnancy.
Even if it was too early for an ultrasound to detect a fetus, a blood test would surely reveal the truth.
So, they chose a doctor with poor skills.
Or someone was intentionally concealing Ariel's pregnancy and misleading Susie.
The doctor had no grievances with Ariel or the Koch family, so there was only one reason to hide Ariel's pregnancy.
They had been bribed.
But who would bribe them?
And who had arranged for this doctor?
Many unpleasant truths seemed on the verge of being revealed.
However, the answers might take a lot of work to accept.
After Martin received his IV drip, Patricia broke the silence.
"I'll take you to Ivara City Hospital and have Larry personally examine you! Shane and Jeremy, stay here with Martin. If anything happens, call me."
Ariel, slow to react, nodded.
"Is Larry very skilled?" she asked.
Patricia replied, "Yes! When Ivara City Hospital was established, Martin personally selected Larry as the obstetrician and gynecologist. She is well-known in that field."
Since Patricia had recommended her, Ariel naturally had no objections.
Patricia drove Ariel to Ivara City Hospital.
Although it was a specialized hospital for cardiovascular diseases, it was also renowned in other areas and attracted a large number of patients.
Before they arrived, Patricia had called Larry Hall.
Larry happened to be working today, so Patricia took Ariel directly to her office.
As Patricia's sister, Larry took special care of her.
She conducted the blood tests and ultrasound for Ariel.
When Ariel received the results, her emotions were churning, and she felt afraid.
"It's been two and a half months?" she asked.
Larry replied, "Yes, it's been two and a half months. The baby has been developing well so far."
Ariel still held onto a glimmer of hope and asked, "Larry, is it possible that the pregnancy is too early to be detected during the examination?"
Larry patiently explained, "One month ago, both the home pregnancy test and ultrasound might not have shown anything. However, for more accurate results, we always conduct three tests together for pregnant women. Blood tests are the most reliable, as they can detect pregnancy even as early as two weeks. If they didn't perform a blood test and concluded that you weren't pregnant, it was negligence. Moreover, you have been pregnant for two and a half months now. Half a month ago, both the ultrasound and home pregnancy test should have shown positive results."
The doctor's words made Ariel feel dizzy, and her vision seemed to go dark.
Trembling, she took out the medication from her bag and handed it to Larry. "Can you please check what kind of medicine this is? The doctor who examined me before said it was for my digestive issues, a stomach tonic."
Larry opened the medicine box and poured out two pills, furrowing her brow immediately.
"This is not a stomach tonic!"
Although Ariel had anticipated this answer, at the moment she heard it, her frail body couldn't help but tremble uncontrollably.
She wasn't excited; she was trembling with anger.
"Then, what kind of medicine is it?"
Larry shook her head and said, "I can't tell just by looking at it, but I can assure you that it's not a stomach tonic! These are capsules, and the best stomach tonics on the market are chewable tablets. They should be crushed and swallowed to increase the surface area of the medication, promoting its dissolution and absorption in the body and accelerating its effectiveness. If you want to know what this medicine is, you can have it tested by a professional organization to determine its ingredients."
After a pause, Larry continued to ask, "Have you experienced any symptoms after taking this medicine?"
Ariel carefully thought for a moment, unconsciously placing her hands on her slightly swollen abdomen. "Yes! Every time I take this medicine, my stomach hurts a little, not too severe, like menstrual cramps, coming and going in waves, and it quickly subsides. Several times, I even thought it was my period coming."
Patricia, who had been silent all this time, finally couldn't hold back and spoke, "It's been over two months since your last period. Didn't you have any suspicions?"
Ariel instinctively clenched her fists. "My period used to be very regular, but after such a long time without getting pregnant, I felt a lot of pressure, and over time, my hormones started to get imbalanced. In the past two years, my menstrual cycle has been erratic, with the longest gap being six months without a period."
Patricia saw Ariel clench her fists and gently held the latter's hand, urging her to relax.
She could understand Ariel, especially considering how loving she and Miles were. She must have wanted to have a child for him.
After finding out that she couldn't conceive, the guilt, self-blame, and longing for a child must have weighed heavily on Susie, making it hard for her to breathe.
"I'll have the medicine tested for you."
Ariel initially wanted to refuse, but after a moment of contemplation, she handed the medicine to Patricia.
She wanted to know what was inside the medicine.
And more importantly, she wanted to find out who was trying to harm her.
She hoped it wasn't the person she had in mind.
But compared to this matter, she was more worried about the child in her womb. "Larry, I've been taking this medicine for so long. Will it have any impact on the baby? Could it cause deformities?"
Larry replied, "So far, we haven't seen any signs of it! Taking medication in the early stages of pregnancy can lead to a miscarriage. If there hasn't been a miscarriage, it indicates that there shouldn't be a problem. However, nothing is certain in life. Between the 12th and 15th week, we can do a screening for Down syndrome. And between the 20th and 24th week, we can do a 4D ultrasound to rule out any abnormalities. If you're still worried, we can also do a DNA test."
Larry then printed out a detailed list of tests and handed it to Ariel. "Here is the schedule and the specific tests. If everything goes well with all the tests, it means the baby is healthy and there are no issues."
"Thank you, thank you! I understand!" Ariel gratefully took the list and left the hospital with Patricia.
Silence filled the car on the way back.
Patricia held back for a while but couldn't resist asking while keeping an eye on the road, "Do you have any suspicions?"
She didn't say it explicitly, but she believed that Susie knew what she was referring to.
