Patricia and Martin shared a knowing glance, their thoughts converging on one individual: Hunter. His presence in Ivara City during Debbie's ordeal, the coincidence of Grace's recovery in the States, and his near-miss with Martin—all threads led back to him. Initially, Grace was suspected as Hunter's accomplice, yet the true motive behind Hunter's actions remained elusive.
Patricia had always believed Hunter's vendetta stemmed from unreciprocated feelings—a dark twist on rejection. The realization that his schemes might have been long in the making sent chills down her spine.
As they delved into these theories, Shane was engrossed in his own reflections, considering every family member's potential involvement.
Riley, the vice president of the Koch empire, was immediately dismissed; he had no reason to jeopardize his future. Sebastian, disinterested in the family business and focused on a legal career, also seemed an unlikely candidate. Jeremy, too, appeared innocent, content with his easy life and lacking the cunning required for such deceit. Ariel didn't fit the profile of someone with great ambition.
Kevin Koch, living a life of leisure, lacked the ambition necessary for such machinations. This left Brooke, the ambitious daughter-in-law, who had always viewed the family's business hierarchy with disdain. With her husband and sons—Sebastian and Jeremy—out of the running for leadership roles, Brooke had taken matters into her own hands, ascending to the position of Director of Logistics through sheer determination.
Miles, the son-in-law, despite his promising career within the Koch Group, was of a more reserved nature, making his involvement unlikely.
After careful consideration, both Ariel and Shane pinpointed Brooke as the most probable suspect.
Jeremy, on the contrary, was stunned to hear Shane mention a traitor within the household, taking a moment to grasp the reality before exclaiming, "Impossible! How could there be a traitor among us? How could any of our staff be so bold?"
Shane and Ariel exchanged bewildered looks. Ariel sighed and tenderly patted Jeremy's head as one might comfort a beloved but clueless family dog, her eyes filled with both affection and pity. Jeremy, still confused, was met with their silent stares.
As dinner was announced, Patricia urged them to set aside their worries. "Grandpa, let's not dwell on the past," she said. "We're together now, and that's what matters. Let's enjoy our meal."
Shane acquiesced, but not without a request for Patricia. "When you have a chance, I'd like to meet your father," he said.
He sought to understand firsthand the nature of a man who could drive Elise to renounce her father. Moreover, he wished to comprehend how such a man could neglect to cherish his wife, leading to her tragic death.
Patricia understood Shane's desire and agreed without hesitation. "Sure, I'll make the arrangements," she said.
During the meal, Shane, who had been searching for his granddaughter for over two decades, relished the moment of togetherness. He kept urging Patricia to eat more, saying, "Eat up, it's good for you."
Jeremy couldn't help but roll his eyes. "Grandpa, kids might need to eat to grow, but what about us adults? We'll just end up gaining weight. Do you want Patricia to puff up?"
Shane, unfazed and with a smile, retorted, "Our Patricia will always be stunning, regardless of her size. Certainly more so than you."
Jeremy, playing along, exaggerated a look of disgust and shuddered for effect. "Grandpa, that's too much. You're making me queasy."
With a playful glare, Shane responded, "If you're going to be sick, take it outside. Spare us the sight."
Feeling sidelined, Jeremy sulkily turned to Patricia and lamented, "See? It's all about you now. Grandpa doesn't even look my way."
Patricia, amused, slid a plate of roast beef towards him and quipped, "Then focus on your dinner!"
Jeremy's mumbling complaints were drowned out by the laughter around the table. His antics broke the tension, lightening the mood.
After the meal, Patricia excitedly proposed, "Grandpa, I'll introduce you to my children at home."
This statement caught Jeremy, Ariel, and Shane off guard, pausing mid-chew in surprise.
Jeremy, recalling the previous day's events, asked, "Not those twins rascals who lured us to the Ellenstein Villa, right?" The memory of their clever deception still irked him.
Patricia's smile hinted at a misunderstanding. "They thought the Koch family mistreated me, so they were trying to protect me, not realizing we were reconciling. I'll explain everything later."
Shane and Jeremy viewed the children's actions differently. Shane appreciated their ingenuity, while Jeremy was less fond of their mischief.
After dinner, Shane was keen to meet Patricia's children. It was a Sunday, and all three were home.
Randy was absorbed in piano practice, Charles was engrossed in his laptop, and Fannie was quietly watching cartoons, occasionally rocking the crib beside her.
Upon entering the room, Shane, Jeremy, and Ariel were momentarily taken aback by the bustling scene, each pausing to take in the sight of the lively children.
