Chapter 604 Samuel Sees Martha's True Colors

In an instant, Martha grasped the gravity of the situation. She pointed an accusatory finger at Martin and then at the two stern-faced police officers. "You...you...you're all in cahoots. You're plotting to murder me and my son," she accused. The police officers' brows furrowed in displeasure, warning her sternly, "Please, mind your language and refrain from hindering our duties."Unfazed, Martha lunged towards Martin, her hand raised to strike him. Samuel, caught off guard, was momentarily stunned by the sudden onslaught. However, as he saw her hand about to land on Martin, he snapped back to reality. A surge of anger welled up within him, and he forgot all about maintaining decorum. With his left hand, he seized Martha's wrist mid-air, and with his right, he delivered a resounding slap across her face. The sound echoed crisply throughout the meeting room. Martha stood there, stunned, her hand instinctively reaching up to her rapidly swelling cheek. She stared at Samuel in disbelief. "You...you hit me! You actually dared to hit me?" she stammered. Sweat trickled down Samuel's forehead as he retorted, "Are you done causing a scene?"

Martha was too shocked to process his words. Her mind was filled with the image of Samuel striking her, the realization that he had actually laid a hand on her. "When you courted me, when we got married, you promised to always treat me well, to shield me from any harm. Yet, for years, I've lived under the tyranny of your elders, never experiencing a moment of happiness. You've broken every promise you made to me, Samuel. You're a liar. Had I known this would be my fate, I would never have cut ties with my own parents to be with you," she accused bitterly. "I am aware of the hardships you've endured in my family over the years, which is why I've never reprimanded you for your mistakes. Even when you turned Ian into the person he is today, I couldn't bring myself to blame you. But your actions have grown increasingly intolerable, to the point where you've attempted to harm Martin on multiple occasions. He may not be your flesh and blood, but he is mine. If you had any regard for me, you wouldn't treat him this way. I've been blind to your true nature all this while," Samuel confessed, his voice heavy with regret. In that moment, he saw the woman standing before him in a new light. This woman, who now seemed like a stranger, filled him with a sense of dread. In a fit of despair, Martha lunged at him, grabbing his collar and shaking him violently. "Samuel, you heartless man. I sacrificed everything for you, and this is how you repay me," she spat out, her voice choked with emotion. Martin watched the unfolding drama impassively. A smirk played on his lips as he spoke, "Cut ties with him and our parents? Wasn't your relationship with him, your understanding and love for him, all part of your grand scheme? You knew he was the sole heir to the Langley Group, and you wanted a life of wealth and luxury. You seduced him, despite knowing he was a married man with a child. The parents you speak of are merely foster parents. They adopted you from an orphanage when you were two and raised you with all their love and care. Yet, you show no gratitude and have severed ties with them as an adult."Martha's face paled at his words. Her eyes widened in shock and fear. "Y-you... you... you..." she stammered, unable to form a coherent sentence. "Do you want to know how I know all this?" Martin asked, a half-smile playing on his lips.
Martha's lips moved, her intention to speak evident, but no words dared to escape. Martin sneered, his voice dripping with contempt. "If you wish to conceal something, refrain from doing it in the first place. Once committed, there will always be traces left behind for discovery."Martha's complexion drained, her face becoming paler than parchment. Her lips began to quiver, trembling like leaves in a storm. Undeterred, Martin pressed on. "You married Samuel with such fervor, naively believing that it would secure your position as the CEO of Mrs. Watson's company."He paused, his gaze hardened. "However, your union with him only served to infuriate Grandma Shane, causing him to forfeit his inheritance rights. Instead, he focused his efforts on grooming me as his successor."Martin's voice took on a chilling tone. "And so, you concocted a scheme to eliminate me, hoping to mold your son into the successor instead."Martha felt her world spin, a dizzying sensation that made her yearn for unconsciousness. Unmoved, Martin continued his revelations. "I had gathered all this evidence years ago. I had intended to keep it hidden, thinking that Grandma Shane's advancing age might spare you the consequences. But your incessant provocations and torment of my wife and children left me no choice."His voice hardened. "I won't show you mercy any longer. For the rest of your life, you will spend it in prison!"

He turned his attention to Samuel. "Do you really think she genuinely loves you? What she loves is nothing more than your status and position! You abandoned your once-happy family for this farcical love, leading to the Langley family's downfall. Your actions even drove your own daughter to madness, condemning her to a life within the walls of a mental institution."Samuel's breath hitched, anxiety coloring his voice as he asked, "Charlotte? What happened to Charlotte?"Martin hesitated, his anger bubbling over. "She's lost her mind, completely insane, and is now confined to a mental hospital!"A wave of sorrow washed over Samuel, causing him to stumble backward. "And all of this is your doing! You are the primary instigator!" Martin accused, his words cutting through the air.A look of guilt finally dawned on Samuel's face, a sentiment he had never truly experienced until now. He turned to Martha, his fingers trembling as he pointed at her. "You... You... You've been lying to me all this time.""No, that's not true, I..." Martha began, but her words were cut short as Samuel's hand connected with her face in a harsh slap."I don't want to hear another word from you. You've deceived me for years... And because of you, my daughter has lost her sanity..."He had believed in her sincerity, only to discover it was all a calculated ruse. He had never been content with his arranged marriage to Martin's mother, feeling trapped and controlled. He believed his life should be different. And then he met Martha. He thought he had found genuine love. Despite losing his inheritance and falling out with his parents before their marriage, he harbored no regrets.
