Chapter 1131 Whipping

Two days later, after a thorough check-up, Hannah's vitals were stable, and she was smoothly transferred from the ICU to a VIP ward.

Warm sunlight streamed in from the balcony, illuminating her face so clearly that even the fine hairs on her skin were visible.

Having just returned from the brink of death, she had lost a noticeable amount of weight.

The ward was filled with people.

Lassie and Carter stood by the bed, tears in their eyes, each holding one of Hannah's hands.

Lassie was sobbing uncontrollably.

This was the first time they had seen her up close since discovering she was their biological daughter, and the first time they had held her hand, feeling the warmth of her skin.

"Violet, my poor daughter, please wake up. Open your eyes and look at me. I miss you so much! I've missed you every day during the eight years you were missing.

From the first time I saw you, I felt a connection and liked you so much.

I thought to myself, how wonderful it would be if you were my daughter! I never imagined you really were my daughter. That initial feeling of closeness was the bond between mother and daughter.

Violet, please wake up. I am begging you. I finally found you; you can't leave me now. I wouldn't be able to go on without you."

Carter had tears in his eyes too, but unlike Lassie, he didn't cry out loud.

He just silently wept, holding tightly onto Hannah's hand, unwilling to let go. "Violet, I promise you, from now on, I will protect you and never let you get hurt again!"

Lassie nodded vigorously. "Yes, it's all our fault! If we had known this would happen, we never would have taken Austin in from the doorstep. We failed to raise him properly and didn't even realize he had gone astray!

Violet, we don't expect you to forgive us. We just want you to wake up."

Something they said seemed to reach Hannah, as her eyelashes fluttered slightly.

Charles, who was standing by the bed, noticed the tiny movement immediately.

His eyes lit up, but before he could share the good news, Hannah's eyelashes stilled again.

The words he was about to say were swallowed back, and his expression darkened.

It had been two days.

He still hadn't figured out what was troubling Hannah's heart.

He had tried everything, but nothing worked.

He hadn't slept for two days and nights because of this.

Yet there was no progress at all.

Carter and Lassie held Hannah's hands and talked for a long time, only leaving in the evening.

Lassie wanted to stay overnight, but Charles refused.

Hannah's condition was stable, and there was no need for so many people to stay. Only Charles remained.

At night, after everyone had left, Charles brought a stool to the bedside, holding Hannah's hand against his face.

Feeling the warmth of her palm, he finally felt a sense of reality.

His Hannah was out of danger.

His Hannah had been moved from the ICU to a regular ward.

Thinking of this, his eyes reddened with emotion.

"Hannah, I know you can hear me! When I was in that car accident, lying in a hospital bed, even though I was unconscious, I could hear every word you said.

Hannah, we've come so far. I really, really can't live without you.

Do you remember what you said? We would grow old together, you would have children with me, and we would watch them grow up.

"You said we'd travel the world, explore every corner together.

You wanted to give our kids a warm home, loving parents.

You didn't want them to feel the emptiness you felt growing up. You wanted them to be the happiest kids ever.

You also said that no matter what, you'd always love me.

You can't break that promise!

I'm still waiting for you to make all those dreams come true!

As long as I'm alive, I'll never let go of your hand! Please, don't let go of mine, okay?

When I was in a coma, I almost didn't wake up. It felt like I was stuck in a swamp, unable to climb out!

You used all your strength to pull me out!

Now let me use all my strength to pull you out, okay? No matter what's troubling you, wake up, and we'll face it together! We'll solve it together.

Hannah, I can't live without you. Please wake up, okay?"

By the end, his voice was humble, choked with emotion.

But Hannah showed no reaction.

Charles's eyes dimmed.

Though he was worried, he hadn't given up hope.

He knew this was a long process.

When he had his car accident, he was in a coma for a long time. Waking someone up wasn't something that could be done overnight.

He couldn't rush it.

He believed Hannah would wake up eventually; it was just a matter of time.

Charles talked to Hannah for a while longer, but seeing how late it was, he stopped.

Knowing Hannah had been unconscious for days, Charles used warm water to gently clean her body, changed her into fresh hospital clothes, and tucked her in before lying down on the nearby sofa.

His tall frame didn't fit the small sofa, so his long legs hung over the armrest.

After turning off the lights, only a dim bedside lamp remained, providing enough light to handle any sudden situations without being too harsh.

As soon as he lay down, Hannah, who had been lying quietly in bed, suddenly reacted.

Her fingers twitched, then clenched the bedsheet. Her delicate brows furrowed tightly, and in the blink of an eye, her forehead was covered in a fine layer of sweat.

She was sleeping restlessly, trapped in a nightmare she couldn't escape.

A loud crash echoed in the dark, empty room, startlingly loud.

Hannah looked at the fallen water cup, trembling with fear.

Before she could clean it up, the door was forcefully pushed open from the outside.

Lisa's face appeared in Hannah's line of sight.

The moment she saw her, Hannah's body began to tremble uncontrollably.

"Mom, I-I didn't mean to. I-I'm just sick, too weak to hold it steady, so it fell. I'm sorry."

She had been running a fever for days.

But her parents not only refused to get her medical help, they left her alone at home, uncared for.

Just now, she was so thirsty she couldn't stand it anymore and tried to get up for a drink of water.

But her body was too weak, and she couldn't hold the cup steady, causing it to fall and shatter.

Seeing the broken cup, Lisa's face darkened with anger. Without a word, she grabbed a feather duster and started hitting Hannah.

"You wretched girl, it's all your fault, everything is your fault. I work so hard to support you, and you don't appreciate it. How dare you break things! Do you know how expensive that cup was? I'll beat you to death, you little brat."
