Chapter 866 Stella Makes Hannah Choose
All the headlines were screaming about Bethany.
She just stared at those names, totally zoned out.
The first bit of news dropped last night, and now it's been a whole day.
If it was bogus, Charles would've wiped it clean by now. But he didn't, so it must be true. And neither Charles nor Bethany have said a peep.
Hannah was even more sure it was legit.
If it wasn't, why wouldn't they clear it up?
With the Langley Group's PR muscle, how could they let this mess slide?
Hannah's fingers hovered over her phone. After a bit of a struggle, she randomly tapped on a news piece.
#Bethany and her rich boyfriend Charles.#
The news kicked off with that bombshell headline.
Then it dove into their love story.
[Bethany's boyfriend is Charles, the Langley Group heir. Charles is the eldest son of Martin, the Langley Group's CEO. At sixteen, he started IntelliMerge Technologies, and in just three years, he got funding and went public. They met at a cocktail party, where Charles fell for Bethany at first sight. After chasing her hard, Bethany finally said yes. Reliable sources say they're already living together.]
The article wrapped up with a bunch of photos.
In the pics, Charles was in the driver's seat, and Bethany was outside, reaching into the car window.
They looked like they were chatting, and Bethany was all smiles. Charles had a soft smile too.
Seeing those photos, Hannah's eyes welled up, and tears splashed onto her phone.
Patricia felt wronged, closed that article, and clicked on another.
The content was almost the same, just a different headline; the story and photos were identical.
Her tears fell harder. Soon, her face was soaked.
Even if the news was fake, the photos couldn't be.
If they had no connection, they wouldn't have been snapped together.
So, Charles really did have a girlfriend. And Hannah was still stupidly pining for him, wondering why he ghosted her, why he bailed. Looking back, it was laughable.
Hannah was too dumb to see her thing with Charles for what it was.
From the start, Mr. Watson never said he liked her, and she got it all wrong.
The more she thought about it, the sadder she got. Hannah buried her face in her knees and bawled.
It hurt so bad. Why did her heart hurt so much? What was happening to her? She wasn't like this before.
Ever since she met Charles, ever since he kissed her, everything changed.
She didn't want to be like this, but she couldn't help it.
She felt so miserable. Her heart felt like it was being slashed, one cut after another, leaving her bleeding.
She cried so hard, so desperately, she couldn't catch her breath.
Until a pair of hands gently rested on her head, stroking her softly, did she stop crying and slowly look up. When she saw it was Stella, she hugged her waist and continued to cry.
Stella felt heartbroken and held her tightly, "Hannah, what's wrong? What happened? Did Austin bully you? Tell me, and I'll teach him a lesson."
Although she said that, she always felt that Hannah was crying so sadly because of Austin.
Hannah didn't know how to explain and could only continue crying.
She was too embarrassed to tell Stella that she was crying because Charles had a girlfriend.
No matter how foolish she was, she knew why her heart hurt so much.
She had completely fallen in love with Charles.
She had a fiancé, but she fell in love with Charles.
She was too embarrassed to say it, but she had nowhere to vent, so she could only cry to release her emotions.
Stella sighed, "Hannah, aren't we best friends? Since we're best friends, why don't you tell me? What if I can help you?"
Hannah kept shaking her head, "It's too late."
She had a fiancé, and Charles had a girlfriend.
They were destined not to be together.
Moreover, she wasn't even sure if Charles liked her. How could she fight for it?
Stella saw the phone lying on the ground still lit up. She hesitated for a moment, bent down to pick it up, and immediately saw the news on the screen. Her eyebrows raised slightly, "Are you crying because of Charles?"
Mentioning Charles, Hannah paused for a moment, then continued crying.
That pause was enough to tell Stella the answer.
She slyly rolled her eyes, "Since you like Charles, why don't you admit it! I've always said I would help you pursue him!"
Hannah sniffled hard, her crying quieting down a bit.
Stella squatted down, gripping her shoulders firmly, and said seriously, "Hannah, look into my eyes and tell me, do you like Charles?"
Hannah bit her lower lip tightly, not saying a word.
Stella pressed on relentlessly, "Tell me! Since you're crying so sadly, you must like Charles, right? Don't lie to me. Tell me the truth."
Hannah felt so miserable inside, wanting to find a place to vent, so she nodded with difficulty, admitting Stella's words.
Seeing her finally admit it, Stella almost jumped up in joy.
Stella said excitedly, "That's great, you finally admitted it! Do you know how hard it was for me to wait for your answer?"
Hannah lowered her head, feeling miserable, "What's the use of admitting it, it's already too late."
Stella said excitedly, "How could it be too late! With me here, everything is still possible!"
Hannah shook her head desperately, "No! We can't do this. I have a fiancé, and he has a girlfriend. We can't be together; it's immoral!"
Stella said nonchalantly, "What immorality! You don't even like Austin. He used tricks to get engaged to you! If it weren't for your father, would you be with him? He's just someone who took advantage of the situation."
Hannah still shook her head, "It's not like that!"
Stella impatiently said, "What do you mean it's not like that! I only ask you, do you like Charles? Do you want to be with him? If you want to be with him, I'll do everything I can to help you get him back! If you don't, then I won't interfere in your matters anymore! You can be with whoever you want, and I won't say a word."
Stella stared seriously into Hannah's eyes, demanding an answer.
Under her sharp gaze, Hannah struggled painfully inside, biting her lip so hard that it turned white.
