Chapter 684 Autopsy Revealed Cause of Death

Carol knew that any situation prompting Maximilian to ask a favor must undoubtedly be linked to Patricia. "Okay! If there is a way for me to assist, I shall undoubtedly lend my aid," she affirmed.

Maximilian knew it was right to find her.

Carol was the only clear and rational person at the Hill family now.

"I... I want to take a friend to see the autopsy process... If something like this happens to Billy, as his brother, I have an obligation to help him find the real murderer!"

Carol hesitated a bit.

Seeing her reluctance, Maximilian didn't force her. "Since it's inconvenient, let's forget about it."

After some internal struggle, Carol finally nodded in agreement. "Okay! But only one person can come! I... I don't want too many people to see Billy being autopsied after his death. He..."

At this point, her throat choked up a bit.

"He... he cared so much about his image in life... I want to preserve his final dignity."

Maximilian hurriedly said, "I understand! I understand! Don't worry, I'll only bring one person!"

"Okay."

Carol nodded and told them the location of the autopsy before hanging up the phone.

The hospital was some distance from the police station.

Carol drove there.

When she arrived at the police station, she happened to see Maximilian getting out of the car.

Behind him was a man she didn't recognize.

The man was a couple of inches taller than Maximilian, equally handsome, dressed in a black suit, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, and looking refined and classy.

As she saw Maximilian, he also saw her.

Maximilian led Sebastian to Carol and introduced, "Carol, this is Sebastian. He came all the way from Country Y for Patricia's matter."

After that, he introduced Sebastian, "Sebastian, this is Carol."

"Nice to meet you!"

Sebastian smiled slightly and gentlemanly extended his hand to Carol.

Carol forced a smile and politely shook his hand.

After exchanging greetings, Carol led Maximilian and Sebastian to the autopsy room.

The staff in the court had been waiting for a long time; and only after Carol arrived did the real autopsy work begin.

Maximilian and Sebastian remained silent, standing quietly beside the forensic medicine as Carol stood on the other side.

The autopsy process was long and dull.

Maximilian was worried that Carol couldn't handle it, so he quietly walked over to her, put his hand on her shoulder, and gently patted her for comfort.

Carol watched as Billy was slowly dissected by the forensic medicine, unintentionally recalling the time they spent together as siblings.

"Someone dared to bully my sister, and I'll avenge you."

"What? You actually broke Dad's favorite antique vase... He'll definitely kill you..."

"Alright, alright, who made me your brother? I'll take the blame for you."

"Our Carol is smart and beautiful. I'll find the best man in the world for you in the future. If he dares to bully you, I'll beat him up..."

"Silly girl..."

"Silly girl..."

At this moment, Carol's mind was filled with these words.

It was how Billy had addressed her from childhood to adulthood.

A hint of indulgence mingled with a touch of permissiveness.

Carol thought, 'Every time I made a mistake, Billy would stand up for me. Things I didn't want to do, Billy would do for me. Now that Billy was gone, there was no one else who could love me like Billy did.'

The more she thought about it, the sadder she became. Carol couldn't bear it anymore and leaned on Maximilian's chest, crying silently, afraid of disturbing the forensic medicine's work. She bit her lip tightly, not letting herself make a sound.

Maximilian held her in his arms, comforting her softly. "Don't worry; Billy is gone. From now on, I'll be your real brother; and I'll love you just like Billy did."

Carol said to himself, 'No! I don't want to be your sister! I don't want you to be my real brother! I like you! I want to be your wife.'

Carol wanted to tell Maximilian the words that had been hidden in her heart for so long. But she knew that in Maximilian's heart, she was only a sister to him, never seen as an adult woman.

The autopsy continued.

The forensic medicine examined and reported the findings while an assistant made notes on the side. "Based on the body's bloating and degree of decomposition, it has been determined that the body has been dead for over twenty days. There is a large amount of undigested water in the stomach of the deceased, indicating death by drowning. The deceased struggled and drank a lot of water before losing vital signs, leaving the water undigested in the stomach. The deceased had no injuries on the body, no signs of external assault. The skin was intact, with no traces of struggle or fighting."

The forensic medicine started from the head and suddenly paused when he reached the hand, grabbing Billy's hand.

Sebastian noticed something was wrong and immediately walked over.

As expected.

The forensic medicine found that Billy's right middle finger nail was broken.

The forensic medicine then checked Billy's left hand and did not find any further nail breakage.

Afraid of making a mistake, the forensic medicine carefully inspected each nail and shook his head. "So far, no evidence has been found in the nails. The nails may have broken off due to prolonged soaking in water."

However, Sebastian disagreed. "Nails are relatively hard on human tissue. After death, the skin on the hands and feet will peel off first, including the nails. The deceased's nails have not yet detached from the body, but the nail has already broken."

The forensic medicine was speechless and looked at him in surprise. "Are you also a forensic medicine?"

Sebastian smiled. "I'm not a forensic medicine. I'm a lawyer!"

The forensic medicine raised an eyebrow. "You seem to know quite a lot."

Sebastian grinned. "After handling many lawsuits, I naturally learned a lot!"

It was also why he had Maximilian bring him along.

He had dealt with many lawsuits and a variety of cases.

Sometimes, in order to win a lawsuit, he would learn many things, unknowingly gaining some knowledge of forensic pathology.

The forensic medicine gave him a deep look and continued the autopsy.

Sebastian asked, "Do you think it's possible that the deceased's nail broke accidentally during struggling?"

The forensic medicine responded, "Even if that possibility exists, with the body soaking in water for so long, all evidence has been washed away, making it impossible to verify."

Sebastian posed a scenario of pressing someone's head underwater to drown them, asking, "Let's say if I press someone's head underwater to drown them; in their instinct to survive, would they grab my hand? Could that be how the nail broke?"

This was the most reasonable explanation so far.

If the nail had broken from grabbing something sharp, all the nails would have been affected.

Moreover, in a violent struggle, one wouldn't care about pain. The hands would instinctively grab everywhere. If they caught something sharp, the nail would surely tear off along with the skin.

But Billy's nail was only half broken.

This proved that what he grabbed wasn't so hard...
