Chapter 141 Martin Strikes Gavin

Martin pulled out his phone, scrolled through the call log, and shot her a knowing glance.

Patricia looked at his phone and was shocked to discover that the emergency number she had dialed in her panic was actually Martin's.

"I... Wasn't I calling the police?"

Martin didn't respond to her question, but said instead, "Even though you infuriated me this morning, I couldn't just stand by and watch you walk into danger. So, I secretly followed you in my car. When you didn't come out for a long time, I came in to look for you. Gavin lied to me, claiming you had already left and stubbornly refused to admit you were here."

Hearing this, Patricia was filled with alarm and relief.

If Martin hadn't followed her today, would she have died at Debbie's hands?

Seeing the fear in her eyes, Martin pulled her into his arms and gently patted her back to soothe her: "Don't be scared, it's all over now!"

Resting in Martin's embrace, Patricia was unusually obedient and did not resist. Listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat, she felt an inexplicable sense of security.

"What happened then?"

Martin continued: "I waited on the path you were bound to take to leave, naturally not believing his words. But without his admission, I couldn't just barge in. Only after I received your call did I confirm you were in danger. I wanted to come up and save you, but Gavin tried to stop me. In the heat of the moment, I hit him. You won't blame me, right? After all, he is your dad."

Patricia shook her head: "I don't blame you! If it weren't for you, I would have already been killed by Debbie's fruit knife. Gavin is Debbie's father, not mine. In his eyes, I've never been his daughter."

Although she had grown accustomed to this from a young age.

It still hurt every time it was brought up.

She couldn't understand why her father treated her and Debbie so differently, both being his biological daughters.

Martin kept patting her reassuringly: "Without him as your father, you still have me, and Charles and Randy, and... and..."

Fannie.

Thinking of Fannie, the daughter Patricia had with another man, he felt a deep-seated aversion.

Since it was a fact that couldn't be changed, he could only try to ignore it as much as possible.

"Hmm?" Seeing him stammer, Patricia lifted her head and curiously gazed at him.

Martin, feeling guilty, looked away and deliberately changed the subject: "Even though you’re not injured, we should still have you checked at the hospital. Especially the back of your head, I don’t know if it's aggravated any old injuries."

Patricia didn't object and went to the hospital in Martin’s car.

As for her own car and her mother's belongings, Martin had Alan send someone to pick them up.

After a series of checks, it was confirmed that Patricia had only a small blood spot on the tip of her nose, nothing serious, and the wound on the back of her head had already scabbed over. After disinfecting and medicating it, she removed her bandages.

With the bandages gone, Patricia was no longer afraid of frightening Randy, so she went to the hospital to visit him as soon as possible.

The little guy, confined to bed, was listless, not even showing interest in his favorite cartoons. It was only when he saw Patricia enter that a glimmer of light sparked in his dim eyes.

"Daddy, Mommy, you finally came. I thought you didn’t want me anymore!" he exclaimed.

Patricia, smiling, walked over and held him in her arms: "Silly child, how could Mommy not want you! I’ve just been a bit busy these past few days, and I came as soon as I finished."

Randy's face immediately lit up with joy: "I knew Mommy wouldn’t forget me!"

Patricia let him go and scrutinized him carefully from head to toe, asking with concern, "How are you feeling? Are you uncomfortable anywhere?"

During these days, because of her injury, she had asked other doctors to do her rounds.

She had read the medical records.

But it was not as reassuring as asking the questions herself.

Randy nodded his little head: "I feel very good, I’m not uncomfortable anywhere. Mommy, your medical skills are amazing! Will I become a normal kid soon, able to play soccer, swim, and go bungee jumping…?"

These were the activities he dreamt of excelling in.

Patricia nodded with a smile: "You need two more surgeries, and after you recover from them, you can play just like other kids, doing whatever you want without any worries."

"That's great…" This answer excited Randy so much he almost jumped up.

However, he had barely moved when Patricia pressed his shoulder down, giving him a warning glance.

Randy playfully stuck out his tongue and immediately sat obediently.

Patricia stayed with Randy in the hospital all day.

Lunch was prepared by the house servants and brought over, and the family of three ate together at the hospital.

After lunch, Patricia cuddled with Randy for a nap.

Martin asked Alan to open his laptop to work.

At three in the afternoon, Patricia did a full-body check-up on Randy, and after confirming he was alright, she said, "I have to go now! I haven’t seen Charles and Fannie in a long time; I need to go and check on them."

Ever since Randy found out that Charles and Fannie were also Mommy’s children, he had completely accepted them and was no longer selfishly thinking of hoarding his mother's attention. He nodded generously: "Mommy, be careful on your way. After nursery school ends, you can bring them to visit me at the hospital. I miss them too."

At his words, a complex emotion flickered in Patricia's eyes, and her thoughts seemed to drift far away.

Seeing she didn’t respond, Randy couldn't help but call out to her.

"Mommy…"

"Mommy…"

"Mommy…"

At the third chime of her voice, unable to hold back, Patricia increased her volume, drawing Martin's attention away from his computer to her. With concern in his voice, he called out, "Patricia?" His deep and husky voice carried an unmistakable concern and anxiety.

Gathering her wits, Patricia feared Martin might notice something amiss. Turning her back to him, not daring to meet his gaze, she forced a smile toward Randy, "Mommy was just thinking about some things. Once Charles and Fannie are on vacation, I'll bring them to see you."

Randy, with his simple thoughts, didn't read too much into it and happily nodded.

Martin, however, wasn't so easily fooled, his penetrating gaze flickering with a hint of suspicion.

After leaving the hospital, Patricia drove to the Langley Group, then went to the market to buy some of Charles and Fannie's favorite vegetables, and finally picked them up from kindergarten.

Five o'clock.

The gates of the kindergarten swung open.

One by one, the children were picked up by their parents.

Standing amidst the crowd, Patricia immediately spotted Charles and Fannie being led by their teacher.

They never expected Patricia to come for them personally. At first startled, they then excitedly ran towards her, each hugging one of her legs tightly.

"Mommy, why are you here? I missed you so much."

Patricia laughed while ruffling their hair, "Mommy missed you so much after not seeing you for so long! What, didn't you want to see me?"

Charles and Fannie nodded together, their movements in surprising sync.

Looking at Charles's adorable face, Patricia couldn't hide the sorrow in her eyes and inadvertently spaced out again.

Noticing her distraction, Charles tugged at her sleeve, "Mommy, what's wrong? Did someone bully you?"

Not wanting them to worry, Patricia took a deep breath and shook her head with force, "Mommy's fine, just very happy to see you. Come on, let's go home. Mommy will cook you something delicious."

"Yay!"

The two little ones jumped for joy.

Once home, Patricia rolled up her sleeves and went into the kitchen.

The twins, not having seen her for so long and missing her dearly, followed her every step. They helped sort the vegetables as she did, and when she washed them, they were there to help with the water.

Patricia cherished the time spent with them, and although their help slowed down the progress, she didn't send them away. The three busied themselves happily in the kitchen.

As the meal was nearly ready, Patricia urged Charles, "Go call Jade and ask her what time she'll be home."

As soon as the words fell, Jade's voice came from the doorway, "I smell the scent of meat soup; heavens, it has been so long since I had this soup, I've missed it terribly."

Peering from the kitchen, Patricia called out, "You're back? Hurry and wash your hands, then come eat."

Excited for the rare opportunity to enjoy Patricia's cooking, Jade washed her hands enthusiastically and took her seat at the dining table with haste, drumming her fingers impatiently like a boss and urging, "Chef, where's my food? How much longer? I'm starving."

Patricia personally served her a bowl of rice and placed it before her, "Please enjoy, guest! I'll go right now and bring you a bowl of my special meat soup."

Jade nodded vigorously with excitement, "Hurry, please hurry. I've been busy all day and only had a few bites of boxed lunch at noon; I'm famished."

Patricia was accustomed to her brusque manner and just shook her head with a smile before heading back into the kitchen.

Having the rare chance to dine with Patricia, Charles and Fannie were in a particularly good mood, their appetites much greater than usual, finishing off two bowls of rice and a bowl of soup each in one go.

Apart from Patricia, the other three were all stuffed to the brim, lying on the sofa with their limbs sprawled out, faces etched with satisfaction, while Patricia conscientiously started to clear the dishes.
