Chapter 886 Austin's Pretentious Concern

Seeing him, Stella barely raised an eyebrow, "What are you doing here?"

She didn't remember telling Austin about Hannah being in the hospital. How did he find out?

For some reason, Stella could never bring herself to like Austin, and now that he was here, who knew if he was trying to take advantage of the situation to get close to Hannah.

Austin gave her a cold look, then turned his attention to Hannah, "Hannah, my dad told me about Charles's accident. I only found out you fainted after I got here! Are you okay? Sorry I came late."

He knew Stella didn't like him. The feeling was mutual.

Stella was always trying to get Hannah to break up with him.

If she weren't a woman, he would've punched her ages ago.

Stella pouted, "Who do you think you are to Hannah? You got nothing to do with her. Even if you didn't show up, I could take care of her just fine."

Austin was in a good mood and didn't want to argue with Stella.

Even though things didn't go exactly as planned, he was still pretty happy with how it turned out.

A vegetative state! Charles was never waking up again.

He didn't believe Hannah would take care of a vegetable for the rest of her life.

Plus, a vegetable needed a ventilator to stay alive. If the ventilator just happened to break and Charles died, well, tough luck.

Austin said, "Hannah, you look so pale. You should rest more and not wander around."

Stella laughed angrily, wanting to say a lot.

Just as she was about to speak, Hannah cut in, "I'm fine. I just haven't eaten for a day and a night, so I'm a bit weak. I want to see Charles; he must be waiting for me."

Hannah really, really regretted it.

If she had accepted Charles's confession that night, if she hadn't let him go back, would he have avoided the car accident the next morning?

Seeing her pale face, Austin felt both heartache and jealousy.

Austin felt heartache because she had made herself like this for Charles.

Austin felt jealousy because he couldn't understand why Charles could make Violet fall for him so deeply, time and time again.

Austin argued, "But you really look terrible! You should rest first. I just came from the ICU, and Charles is not in immediate danger. You don't need to worry."

For the first time, Stella agreed with him, "Of all the things he said, I think this one is right! Charles is doing fine for now! Why don't you rest a bit more? I'm afraid you won't hold up."

What if Hannah fainted again at the ICU door?

Hannah shook her head firmly, "I have to see him, no matter what."

Unable to persuade her, Stella had to agree to her request.

Austin didn't stop her either but silently followed behind, guarding her in case she fainted again.

After all, Charles was already going to become a vegetable and was no longer his rival.

A defeated opponent was nothing to fear.

Stella supported Hannah to the ICU. Just as they were about to push the door open, they heard voices inside.

The voices were very low, so low that if you didn't listen carefully, you wouldn't hear them.

But it was so quiet here that you could hear each other's breathing, so their voices were actually quite clear.

Someone said, "Mr. Langley, as per your instructions, I've completely blocked the news about Mr. Watson's accident! Everyone thinks Mr. Watson went home to visit his family and hasn't returned yet!"

After a pause, he continued, "I just came back from the police station and went through everything. The road surveillance clearly shows that it was Mr. Watson's car that violated traffic rules, running a red light and speeding into the intersection, causing a serious accident."

The voice was Wyatt's.

Hannah recognized it immediately.

Wyatt paused again, looking a bit troubled, "They found breakfast in the car. The cops think Charles might've been eating while driving, which is why he missed the red light."

After a moment, Martin spoke up, "I know Charles; he's not that kind of guy."

Maximilian chimed in, "That's nonsense. I was at the scene right after the crash! The breakfast fell under the seat because of the impact. It was untouched, and the ER doc said Charles's stomach was empty during the rescue! He didn't eat at all."

Randy added quietly, "Charles left really early that morning. The breakfast was probably for Hannah! He must've wanted to have breakfast with her. That road leads to her apartment."

Martin said, "This whole thing doesn't add up. Charles's car is always in top shape, and he's super strict about traffic rules! He'd never run a red light!"

Wyatt said, "Mr. Langley, don't worry. I'll dig into this and make sure Charles doesn't get blamed for nothing."

Martin nodded, "Thanks, Wyatt!"

Hearing their conversation, Hannah's eyes filled with tears, and she collapsed to the ground, hugging her legs and crying her heart out.

It was all her fault. She felt a crushing guilt and regret, a voice in her head screaming at her.

If she had kept him last night, this wouldn't have happened.

Why? Why didn't she accept him last night? Why let him leave with regret?

Stella felt terrible for her and immediately squatted down to comfort her, "Don't cry. No one saw this coming! Some things are just fate, and you can't avoid them!"

She never believed in fate before, but after this, she kinda did.

Austin looked down at her, fists clenched, trying hard to keep his jealousy in check. He was really afraid he might lose it and strangle Hannah right there.

What was so great about Charles? How long had it been, and she already loved him this much? Then what did their years together mean?

If he had known this earlier, he wouldn't have respected her back then. He should've just taken what he wanted. Even if he couldn't get her love, at least he would've had her body.

But it's not too late.

Charles was a vegetable now, and he still had a shot.

Inside, Martin and the others heard the noise and quickly opened the door and came out.

Seeing Hannah on the ground, crying her eyes out, they exchanged looks.

After Charles's accident and Hannah fainting, everyone knew about their relationship. So they weren't surprised to see Hannah.

Patricia, who had just stopped crying, started up again because she heard Hannah's sobs, leaning on Martin and crying with her.

Martin felt terrible for her, holding her tight and gently patting her back, "Charles will be fine. Even if I have to search the world, I'll find a doctor who can save him."

The world was huge; he didn't believe he couldn't find a doctor who could save Charles.

Patricia sobbed, "My dad doesn't know about this yet. If he finds out, he won't be able to take it! He's so old! We can hide it for a day or two, but not for long."

Stella and Carol, who were standing by, also started to cry when they heard the sobbing.

Although Charles wasn't Carol's biological son, he'd been really close to their family over the years, and their bond was strong.

In an instant, the whole ward was filled with the sound of crying.

Even Martin, Wyatt, Randy, and Maximilian had red eyes.

Randy turned his head away, not wanting everyone to see his sadness.
