Chapter 649 Suspect

Ryan hadn't found any results yet. In the evening, while Patricia was taking care of Martin in the hospital room, she suddenly received a call from Maximilian.

Upon seeing the caller ID, she instinctively looked at Martin and said softly, "It's Maximilian."

Martin whispered, "Put it on speaker."

Patricia nodded, answered the call, and put it on speaker.

Maximilian's gentle voice came through the speaker, "Patricia, when do you have time to meet? I have something to tell you."

Patricia asked, "What is it?"

After a pause, Maximilian said in a serious tone, "There are some things I want to discuss with you."

Patricia looked at Martin and asked, "Is it inconvenient to talk on the phone?"

Seeing her hesitation, Maximilian asked, "Are you busy? Or have you already left the country?"

Worried that Maximilian might suspect something, Martin nodded, signaling Patricia to agree.

Following his instructions, she quickly responded, "No, I'm still in the country! Where should we meet? I'm available anytime."

After a moment of thought, Maximilian said, "Let's meet now! Are you at the hospital taking care of Mr. Langley? I'll be at the café across the street from the hospital waiting for you."

"Okay!"

After Patricia agreed, she ended the call.

Feeling nervous, she asked Martin, "Why did Maximilian suddenly ask to meet me? Could it be that Ryan's private detective investigation into him and the Hill family has been discovered?"

If that's the case, Maximilian would be too dangerous.

Martin held her hand, reassuring her softly, "Don't worry, I'll accompany you."

Patricia firmly refused, "No! You stay here and rest, I can go alone! The place we're meeting is a public area, he wouldn't dare to do anything rash."

Martin didn't insist, just nodded gently and lightly rubbed her hand with his thumb.

"Be careful! Keep your phone's location and recording on! If anything happens, I'll come over immediately."

"Okay!"

Patricia agreed readily.

Soon, Maximilian arrived at the café.

After receiving his call, Patricia promptly rushed over.

As she left, Ryan arrived at the hospital room panting. "Martin, we have some preliminary leads. It seems that the relationship between the Hill family and Maximilian is not as good as it appears."

Maximilian had reserved a private room on the second floor.

After Patricia took her seat, Maximilian smiled and said, "I've ordered coffee and dessert for you. I've noticed you drink coffee several times. If you don't like it, we can get something else."

Patricia was surprised by Maximilian's keen observation but didn't show it on her face. She replied, "Mr. Reed, you're very observant. I do enjoy coffee."

Whether he didn't understand or did it intentionally, Maximilian chuckled and joked, "In our line of work, observation is key! It's a professional habit of mine!"

Patricia nodded in agreement. "Indeed! My husband also has this professional habit."

At that moment, the waiter brought the coffee and dessert to the table.

Maximilian took a sip of his coffee and apologized, "Patricia, I apologize for Kaleb's behavior towards you. He was just too angry. Don't take it to heart! Once he calms down, I'll try to persuade him to continue treating Mr. Langley."

Patricia took a sip of her coffee, forced a smile, and asked, "Did you invite me out so late just to apologize?"

Maximilian shook his head, set down his coffee slowly, and his expression suddenly turned serious. "Actually, I'm not clear about something, and I wanted to talk to you to seek clarification."

Patricia inquired, "What is it?"

Maximilian stared at Patricia intently and asked in a deep voice, "Is there anywhere you might have inadvertently revealed to the Hill family that you were impersonating Kaleb's daughter?"

Patricia was puzzled and didn't understand his meaning. "What do you mean?"

Maximilian lightly tapped the table with his slender fingers, his gentle eyes turning deep. Without answering her question, he continued, "During your usual conversations, could someone have overheard you?"

Upon hearing his words, Patricia shuddered, and the scene of Billy's first visit to the hospital to see Martin involuntarily flashed through her mind.

That day, her conversation with Ryan, could Billy have really overheard it?

The thought sent a chill down her spine.

If Billy had indeed overheard them but managed to remain composed, not giving away any clues, then he was truly terrifying.

Seeing Patricia's silence, Maximilian's gaze unconsciously shifted to the coffee cup.

"I had my people investigate the small town where Margaret has lived for the past twenty years! It's not a big town, just a few tens of thousands of people, and every single person there has been investigated by my team." He paused there.

Patricia broke out in a cold sweat.

"Since Margaret has been living there all this time, why couldn't your people find her?"

Maximilian gripped his coffee cup, his expression grave. "Yes! My people turned that town upside down, and even if they searched the entire country of D, they couldn't find her. Forget about that town, in twenty years, they could have searched the entire country of D. If Margaret has left D, then maybe she truly can't be found. But if she's still in D, why haven't they found her all this time?"

Patricia didn't understand why he suddenly brought this up and didn't dare to continue the conversation.

"Mr. Reed, what are you trying to say with all this? Considering our current relationship, aren't you afraid I might reveal what you've said?" she asked.

Maximilian looked up and smiled at her. "No! I have a good eye for people, and I can tell that you're a good person!"

Being praised as a good person by someone she suspected made Patricia's emotions complicated, and she didn't know whether to be happy or not.

Maximilian continued, "I just find it all too coincidental, and there are many things that don't add up! So, I wanted to chat with you! I wanted to see if you've said anything that might have been overheard in the past few days."

After hesitating for a moment, Patricia told him truthfully, "Not long ago, Ryan and I were talking in the hospital room when suddenly we heard a voice outside the sickbed. When we opened the door, we saw Billy and the Hill family's butler standing outside. His expression was calm, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary."

Maximilian's expression darkened. "What did you say at that time?"

Feeling embarrassed, Patricia said hesitantly, "We mentioned the incident of me impersonating Kaleb's daughter!"

Maximilian's sudden question made her wonder if this incident was related to the Hill family.

Feeling that the Taylor family and the Hill family Residence might not have as good a relationship as they appeared, Maximilian asked anxiously, "Do you remember when this happened?"

She decisively and accurately stated the date.
